What and how much are you eating per day?

I'm 28+3 today and feel that I'm now absolutely ballooning! I've kept up with my exercises and walking (as much as I can and/or when the temperature isn't too high!) but I'm worried that I'm eating way too much.

I thought maybe writing down what I eat might help and just wondered what you're eating in a day at the moment (honest answers please!)

Yesterday was a fairly good day as I had:

* Large bowl of cereal
* Soup with 4 pieces of buttered toast
* Bolognese (2 large servings!)

But no snacking for once!

On Sunday, I had:

* A bowl of cereal
* Welsh rarebit
* Roast belly pork with all the trimmings
* Half a tub of ice cream
* Fab lollipop
* 2 pieces of buttered toast

LouiseD29 Tue 23-Jul-13 09:53:15

Doesn't sound too bad. Yesterday I had cereal with semi-skimmed milk, two pieces of peanut butter on toast, big salad for lunch, massive bowl of ice cream, asparagus risotto and about six chocolate digestives. Average day, I think.

Am 37 weeks, have put on about three stone. Am not worried.

kd83 Tue 23-Jul-13 10:06:34

I think that sounds fine. I had:
-Bowl of cereal and glass of orange juice
-burger for lunch (oops!)
-6 chocolates from a selection box (maybe more)
-twister lolly
-and i would have had fish with sweet potato mash and greens for dinner (just talking about it makes me want it now), but we had a power cut so i had another bowl of cereal some strawberries and then when the power came back on a slice of toast with peanut butter.

so far today I've had porridge and orange juice and have a banana and a punnet of cherries sitting on my desk. But a colleague has brought in biscuits so I might have one of those.

I'm 28 +5 and have put on about 5kg (about 11lb)

FreckleyGirlAbroad Tue 23-Jul-13 10:12:17

I'm 29+4 and yesterday went as follows:

Special K + semiskimmed milk + an apricot
Decaf coffee + 1 sugar
Brown Rice with mackerel
Watercress and chicken salad
2 chocolate biscuits

(much healthier day then ususal for some reason!!)

I've put on 9lbs since I was first weighed at 9 weeks but was bordering on overweight before hand so trying consciously not to put on too much more.

EmB1715 Tue 23-Jul-13 10:37:30

Bowl of cereal
2 rice cakes with peanut butter
Beans on one slice of toast
Cream cake (bought round by MIL :S
Pork chop with roasted peppers, courgettes and aubergine with salad
Greek yogurt

Wow that sounds alot now! I have put on more weight that I was aiming for...16lb at 21 weeks.

Smerlin Tue 23-Jul-13 10:55:39

Toasted teacake with margarine
1 slice Jarlsberg cheese
3 large grilled mushrooms with feta and couscous
1 large bag of crisps
Half a burger with bun and cheese, one chicken drumstick and salad (leftover from Sunday BBQ)
1 pistachio Magnum

Yesterday was a very unhealthy day and I felt it!

Have put on 19lb at 27 weeks but my BMI was only 21 before so even with that weight gain, my BMI is only on 25 now desperately tries to reassure self

workingtitle Tue 23-Jul-13 11:29:02

Sounds fine to me. In 27 weeks and yesterday I ate -

natural yogurt, fruit and oats for breakfast (have this every day)
baguette with ham and mustard for lunch
Half a flapjack
some crisps when I got home, with a bottle of alc free becks
homemade falafel for dinner with hummus, salsa, jalapenos, lettuce and cheese
some pineapple
a slice of freshly made apricot ricotta cake (mmm)
Lots of water

I'm generally eating more.. Having lots of ice lollies at the moment and most days seem to 'need' a snack of a bagel with peanut butter, some crisps or toast. I swim three times a week and do 1 x yoga session, as well as working hard decorating our new house. I haven't weighed myself, but don't think I've put much on

HeffalumpTheFlump Tue 23-Jul-13 11:34:44

Smerlin, I'm 28weeks and have put on 19lbs too! I was just at the edge of healthy weight (nearly overweight but not quite) so probably shouldn't have put that much on?

Normal day:

Breakfast: Cereal + milk
Lunch: Sandwich + crisps + Banana
Snacks: babybel or two
Something chocolatey - I like twix's or go ahead choc thins
Dinner: pizza + salad/ pasta + salad/ ribs + garlic bread + salad... Etc! Yoghurt or fruit for desert.
Snacks: carrot sticks + hummus

Yea no wonder I'm putting on weight! Yummy though grin

HeffalumpTheFlump Tue 23-Jul-13 12:30:39

Ooh and I just put my chefs hat on and swapped my sandwich for a bacon, spinach and low fat garlic and herb cream cheese omlette. It was scrummy grin

SeriousStuff Tue 23-Jul-13 12:32:40

I'm very jealous of some of these menus!

I think it does make a difference when you write down what you've eaten - I generally feel I'm doing ok but some days are horrendous without me even realising it!

So far today I've had:

* Large bowl of cereal
* Large tin of beans with one slice of toast and a tomato
* Tonight will depend on the Tesco delivery as I have nothing else left in the cupboard!

Everyone has good and bad days, and weight gain in pregnancy is normal so don't be too hard on yourself.

I am only around the 4 week mark (just) but ahve been feeling queasy and very bloated so I feel like I can't eat much at all as it's too uncomforatble.

So far today I ahve had

1 Benefit cereal bar.
1 rich tea biscuit
1 peppermint tea
Lunch was 1 tbsp sweetcorn, 3 sticks of cucumber, 2 tbsp beetroot, 1 tbsp cottage cheese, a few bits of lettuce, 3 carrot sticks and an icecream scoop size blob of mashed potato. That made me feel full.

Dinner is supposed to be chicken thai green curry but right now I cannot face the thought of it.

HeffalumpTheFlump Tue 23-Jul-13 15:36:05

Wow golden you are doing well!! At the beginning of this pregnancy I couldn't even look at food without throwing up. I would eat a piece of toast and a biscuit on a good day! I was overjoyed when my appetite came back!

BentleyBelly Tue 23-Jul-13 15:37:00

Wow you lot don't eat much!

I snack almost constantly and then have 3 big meals a day. I have low blood pressure and have to snack and drink lots of water to stop me feeling wobbly. I am 35 weeks and have put on 2 stone.

Today so far I have eaten...
A big bowl of cereal and cup of tea for breakfast
Nectarine, banana, apricot and half a punnet of cherries
Beans and cheese on 2 slices of toast
Bag mini cheddars
3 pints of sugar free squash

There is lots more still to come!!
I am eating what I want, when I want and not worrying about it.

kd83 Tue 23-Jul-13 15:41:21

Bentley you make me feel a lot better about what I'm eating. I've noticed a lot of posters seem to be eating a lot less than me.

[she types scoffing down a chocolate mousse - its mostly air anyway!]

Heffalump I am fully expecting to feel like that soon, I hit week 5 with DD and threw up at least six times a day, so am expecting the slightly queasy feeling I have now to escalate to full on morning sickness soon. I am eating a bit while I can grin

I tried to eat some chocolate yesterday and it made me feel so sick, I am devastated, I literally cannot bear the though of chocolate or fizzy drinks, in fact, anything very sweet makes me want to throw up at the moment.

BentleyBelly Tue 23-Jul-13 15:57:34

I've just realised i forgot to put the 2 ice lollies and 4 biscuits down! Come on ladies you are pregnant, relax and enjoy your food.

EeyoreIsh Tue 23-Jul-13 16:25:55

I'm 12 weeks and really struggling to eat. Normally I eat breakfast, second breakfast, elevenses, lunch part one, lunch part two, snack, dinner!

Yesterday I managed:

- 2 bits of toast
- smoked salmon, 2 poached eggs, cucumber and avocado
- packet of crisps
- 12 chips, a little bit of salad.

Can you tell I struggle to eat anything but salty potatoes after noon?!

I can't wait for my appetite to return!

donttellalfred Tue 23-Jul-13 16:56:39

I'm 31 weeks and have no idea how much I have put on as decided not to weigh myself at all this pregnancy. Plenty of time to think about that when the baby is here...

Average day:
Breakfast - granola or muesli with yoghurt, some fruit, cup of tea
Second breakfast - 1 or 2 slices of toast with peanut butter or Marmite
Lunch - sandwich or salad, fruit, maybe packet of crisps, fruit juice
Snack - couple of biscuits & more fruit, and/ or if I am hungry (I am often hungry!) a bowl of bran flakes or toast. Also recently you could add in two or three ice lollies during the day, which are a medical necessity I think...
Dinner - yesterday fish with veg and potatoes, or might be pasta or rice type thing, then yoghurt for pudding, or possibly some chocolate if I can find any...

My BMI was at the higher range of healthy before this pregnancy and when the baby's out I hope to get back to that within a few months.

I do snack and graze a lot and I am certainly eating more than I need to - but I still feel sick if hungry and tbh I really can't be bothered to worry about what I eat - trying to juggle fulltime work, active toddler, etc etc <digs around for excuses, tries to ignore size of thighs...> Pregnancy is taxing enough without stressing about food, although I appreciate for some it helps to feel more in control.

x0gawjus0x Tue 23-Jul-13 17:00:47

Today ave had lemon mousse and steak crisps for breakfast bout 7am??? Two slices of toast with marmite at 11 and a mini fillet n portion of chips from kfc at 3.30 loool and ive still got dinner yet! Strawberries and cream for desert yumyummm x

Creamtea1 Tue 23-Jul-13 17:02:54

This thread totally proves how differently we all metabolise our food and how different people gain weight more easily (or not) and therefore how no one should ever be told they have put on too much or too little!

I have had:
Cup if tea 1 sugar
2 sugar free squash (pint)
Small bowl low sugar muesli
2 biscuits

Dinner will be
Tina fish cake (1)
Portion spinach
Poached egg
raspberries and cream

And that's more or less what I eat each day - rarely breakfast plus lunch, and always try to eat low carb dinner.
And I'm 34 weeks and have put

Creamtea1 Tue 23-Jul-13 17:05:01

Sorry stupid iPhone!
34 weeks and have put on 2.5 stone. Was bmi 20 before. And lots of people on here would have me know that I've already gone over my recommended weight gain... But what can I do, I don't eat that much and only bad craving at the mo is chocolate milk, which am trying to limit to one glass a day.

Ls271082 Tue 23-Jul-13 17:37:43

I've had -

2 weetabix
1 cereal bar
Ham sandwich, crisps and 2 celebrations
1 bag crisps

I'm so hungry - I'm 32 weeks and put on almost 2 stone, weight was pretty much under control until 3rd trimester when suddenly I've put on 7 lbs in 2 weeks! I'm constantly hungry all the time....

SeriousStuff Tue 23-Jul-13 22:52:02

I haven't weighed myself since the 1st trimester - I just can't face it and agree with dont, I'll deal with that after the baby arrives!

floppops Wed 24-Jul-13 15:59:22

Just at 6 weeks and have put on 4lbs already..
Feeling really tired and hungry but no sickness. This is my second and I had no sickness with the first either which I realise is lucky. But I did put on 3 and half stone with no 1 and struggled to get it off-took over a year.
So trying to not eat everything in sight like I did last time!
Today I've had:
2 slices of toast with avocado
2 mocha decaf coffees with skimmed milk
Big salad with hummus and low fat cheddar
3 squares of chocolate
Slice of toast and hummus

Planning on having fish, rice and salad tonight.

floppops Wed 24-Jul-13 16:03:30

Cream tea I had a really bad addiction to chocolate milk with my first! Particularly the waitrose one..an trying to keep away this time!

Champagnebubble Wed 24-Jul-13 19:00:09

An apple
A yogurt
A teacake

I'm a strange / not a good example as I have hyperemesis and I struggle to eat some days though! I would not recommend my diet!

Champagnebubble Wed 24-Jul-13 19:03:01

I should say I'm 11 weeks and hoping on a vast improvement on the diet front soon. I usually adore food and very jealous of some of the things you ladies are eating! grin

I'm 11 weeks tomorrow. I've put on 1.5 kg so far.

Today I ate:

2 scrambled eggs and 1/2 slice toast
1 slice toast with honey and butter
2 slices cheese on toast
Some vanilla Vienetta
An apple
A few mouthfuls of dinner, which was sausages, courgettes, mushrooms and halloumi done in the oven but DH overdid the mustard sauce and I was nearly sick
Some more Vienetta and a piece of chocolate

God, that looks awful having written it down. No wonder I feel tired and ill!.Going to make a concerted effort to eat more veg and less toast.

Boosiehs Wed 24-Jul-13 20:20:09

I'm 36 weeks and have put on 6kg. (About 13.8lbs). I think! I was mega overweight before I got pregnant, so have not really put on much at all. That and giving up drinking! smile

CheeseFondueRocks Wed 24-Jul-13 20:30:57

I'm 14 weeks, no weight gain yet, still 1kg less than before BFP due to sickness and today I have had (so far):

1 slice of German Wholewheat Bread with butter and honey
Glass of Multivitamin juice
2 Breaded Camemberts with Cranberry Sauce, 1/4 slice German WWbread
Bowl of Leek & Butterbean Soup
2 Kiwi Fruits
1 slice M&S New York Style Cheesecake

Am just coming out the other end of Hyperemesis, so my food choices are still a little weird. Am hoping to improve my diet in the next couple of weeks.

CheeseFondueRocks Wed 24-Jul-13 20:37:22

Oh, and waving back at BabyLabyrinth!

CheeseFondueRocks Wed 24-Jul-13 20:38:49

And, and this is my last add-on, I'm also still breastfeeding DD (17 months) through this pregnancy and the Hyperemesis so I guess I'll put on weight slower.

mustardtomango Wed 24-Jul-13 22:43:08

I've had...

Mini wheatabix
2 x cereal bars
Cheese salad sandwich
Thai noodles & spring rolls
Chocolate ice cream

I'm at 25 weeks and so far put on 8kg...

Peartreepeartree Wed 24-Jul-13 23:23:40

Half a tub of ice cream! It looked so good until then ;)

Amibambini Thu 25-Jul-13 12:42:08

16 weeks. No weight gain.
Raisin bagel with cream cheese
Ham coleslaw sandwich, crisps and juice
Some slices of mango and pieces of coconut
BBQ chicken breast with grilled veggies, rice salad and some frozen yogurt (at a friends lovely BBQ', was very jealous of the goopy cheese that got brought out!).

I vary between very healthy veggie meals (partner and I have been eating a lot of lentil or couscous and green veg salads + cheese for dinner recently due to the heat), but the day before yesterday I ate a greggs steak bake for lunch, followed by a mint magnum. Yum.

Swimming regularly and cycling daily.

Quite surprised at the lack of vegetables in a lot of the above posts.

SeriousStuff Thu 25-Jul-13 13:00:40

peartree I know - I'm not the sort of person who can have just one scoop!

Been doing a bit better this week (I think this thread helps!) but at 1am this morning I had a cheese and tomato sandwich...just so hungry!

forevergreek Thu 25-Jul-13 13:26:09

No currently pregnant but ate loads when I was and didn't gain much so I think different metabolisms etc

At 39 weeks, day before ds2 was born I recorded a food diary of:
Breakfast : granola, Greek yogurt, banana, berries
Snack: pecan plait
Lunch: carbonara with garlic bread, sorbet ( in restaurant)
Snack: half a large bag Doritos!
Snack: tub of raspberries and
Dinner: seabass , new potatoes and veg
Snack : an entire large bar of green and blacks choc!

After those mammoth meals, ds2 was born at 4pm the next day, and I was 9 stone 8. Ds2 was 7.8 lb of that, so was back to 8.5stone when we left 3 days later. ( sorry!)

Amibambini Thu 25-Jul-13 13:30:49

Seriousstuff - from the looks of things, if that is representative of your general diet I'd say that it does look quite high in fat and carbs, which will result in increased weight, especially if you are feeling hungry and using it to fill up.

If you are concerned about ballooning I'd try swap out some of the toast, butter and cheese for fruit (bananas are pretty filling), more veg, like carrot sticks with hoummous, low sugar muesli with yogurt for brekkie. Maybe every second day or something. I love toast and butter but that stuff is pretty much empty calories, straight to the arse (for me anyway).
Try and also fill up with loads more vegetable with your mains, instead of extra pasta or potatoes.

Really sorry if I'm coming across as one of this boring food nags, but I figured you wouldn't be posting if you weren't concerned about it. I know it's pretty easy to think fuck it, I'm eating for two, but really all you need is an extra 200 cals per day in the third trimester, which is the equivalent of a piece of toast with peanut butter, or a bowl of cereal. It's not much at all. The rest just turns into extra, unnecessary weight gain.

Good luck with your pregnancy!

EeyoreIsh Thu 25-Jul-13 13:36:54

hmmm, ami I would normally eat eight portions of fruit and veg a day. But with ms I've struggled to eat anything that isn't totally bland. And most veg and fruit makes me retch so I've accepted that I'll eat what I can and when I can eat better I will.

Yesterday I had:

three pieces of toast, Marmite and peanut butter
3 bean salad
1 roll with bread and Marmite
porridge with raisins.

so hardly any fruit and veg but I just about managed to keep all that down.

EeyoreIsh Thu 25-Jul-13 13:36:54

I a still feeling quite nauseaous, I threw up last night at the sight of raw chicken. Today I have had:

Breakfast: Half a banana, one slice whole grain toast.

Lunch: 1 small veggie taco, 1tsp sour cream and some lettuce.

Dinner tonight is supposed to be pasta bake...I've only been managing very small dinners though, literally cereal bowl sized dinners rather than platefuls.

I ahve found I am very thirsty and drink quite a lot of water so this is probably helping me stay fuller. The bloating I've been getting eased off last night thankfully!

Amibambini Thu 25-Jul-13 14:12:31

Hey there Eeyoreish - oh gosh, yes when you are knocked out with ms whatever you can get down is whatever you can get down! All my little sister could stomach for three months were chicken nuggets and chicken sandwiches! She was super worried the baby wasn't getting the right nutrition but her doctor said that as long as she was eating something, and hopefully keeping some pregnancy vitamins down, the baby will be fine. She's back to normal now, eating a wide variety of foods from around 16 weeks. (She's 6 weeks further along than me, so exciting!).

Part of me is cringing at my 'eat more veggies please' finger wag, but I've just seen too many girlfriend lately binge out during pregnancy and then feel very uncomfortably stuck in much bigger bodies, that takes ages to shift because you've got way more important things to deal with, like a little new person. Now this throws up the issue of we should be just loving our shapes and bodies the way they are, which I agree with, however if you end up being unhappy with your body because it's carrying too much fat, which happened to be caused by eating too much fat.. Well. Try not to eat so much fat. This last para is not directed at you Eeyoreish, just more a general eyeroll/explanation at myself.

But I hope your ms passes soon!

CheeseFondueRocks Thu 25-Jul-13 14:24:41

I totally get what you're saying. I'm on DC2 so appreciate how hard it can be to lose any pregnancy weight postpartum. I had about 7 kg to lose last time but my body held on to all of that while breastfeeding until DD also started some solids. Then the weight just disappeared without me having to do anything.

I think a lot of people who have posted and are lacking in the fruit and veg department, are still quite early on in their pregnancies so nausea will be a big part. I count myself into that.

We could start some sort of supportive thread posting food diaries as I'm quite keen to get back to my old super healthy diet. Sadly, anything cooked with garlic or onions is still a big no-no for me so that excludes quite a lot of our regular meals. We're veggie, so pulses have always played a role.

FraggleRock77 Thu 25-Jul-13 14:28:01

18 Wks:
Weetabix semi skimmed milk
Low fat pasta micro meal
3 kiwi fruit
Beans on brown toast
Lots of water grin

Not too bad i think x

EeyoreIsh Thu 25-Jul-13 14:40:22

ami that's fine smile

I did manage some strawberries, blueberries, grapes and cucumber today grin that's more fruit than I've eaten in the last week.

SeriousStuff Thu 25-Jul-13 14:58:58

ami no, I think you're right. I'm definitely eating for convenience at the moment (without venturing over to processed/ready meals-type foods!). Bread is my weakness so if I can replace sandwiches for salad that might be a step in the right direction!

Amibambini Thu 25-Jul-13 16:42:54

Serious - Great! smile If salads leave you feeling hungry, mix in some pulses. I've been really enjoying puy lentils, they are super filling and tasty, slightly peppery, especially if they have been simmered (from dried) with some water with stock (powdered works for me).

I am doing quite well today, the nausea feeling has abated, not sure for how long, we shall see smile I didn't manage dinner last night, I was too tired and couldn't be bothered to eat!

I had a slice of soreen malt loaf for breakfast and just finished my lunch which was x4 tablespoons of three bean chilli and rice, with some lettuce and cucmber. I am now tucking into some very nice strawberries.

I can only manage quite small portions at the moment, lunch was small but I still feel quite full. Apologies that I a using this place as a food diary, it helps e to really take note of what I am eating.

Dinner will be my portion of pasta bake that I didnt eat last night, with some salad.

Sashabella0 Fri 26-Jul-13 13:04:30

I'm 40+2

Yesterday I had

Large bowl of branflakes with skimmed milk
Cup of tea

1/4 leftover homemade quiche
Mug of gazpacho

Roast potatoes

Handful peanut m&ms
A couple of ice lollies

2 slices toast
2 fried eggs
1/2 avocado

3 clementines

About to have lunch of

More left over quiche
Roast potatoes
Rest of avocado

Dinner is out at an Italian so like to be naughty. It is my anniversary though and probably my last chance before DC1 arrives to eat out

I've gone from 8 1/2 stone to just over 12 stone. Hurry up baby!!

parttimer79 Fri 26-Jul-13 13:17:23

I'm 38 weeks and my eating has varied wildly from "can only eat toast and even then I'm sick" til about 16 weeks, "I shall eat everything in sight" til about 32 weeks, "Hmm I'm running out of space so shall eat little and often" til now.

I had BMI of 23 before pregnancy and have gained 2 stone, most of which was between 28 and 34 weeks for some reason.

Today I had
Granola and fruit
an apple
beans (and cheese) on granary toast

and we're off for curry later.

Everyone keeps telling me that I'm all bump, the is blatantly not true - my thighs, arse and upper arms are decidedly meatier than pre-pregnancy. I'm hoping this shifts quite quickly after baby arrives as I feel like even my face is fat at the moment sad
