If you don't mind me asking how long did it take you to get pregnant again following your miscarriage? I have just lost a baby and I'm curious about the average time frame for conceiving again. It took me almost 2 years for this pregnancy but I fell very easily with my first 2 8 and 9 years ago.

ldt87 Wed 03-Apr-13 18:53:30

I should add that I am keen to try again asap and although I know everyone is different, I would rather speak to real people than relying on Google!

bonzo77 Wed 03-Apr-13 18:59:11

Sorry for your loss.

Took 7 months to get pregnant. MMC diagnosed at 12 weeks. Started trying as soon as bleeding stopped after ERPC. Pregnant after 4 months.

In the conception topic there are several threads with people ttc after mc. I found a lot of support there, and also once pregnant.

ldt87 Wed 03-Apr-13 19:05:01

Thanks bonzo, I've been there and it's helped me so far. This is more an attempt to collect information from as many people possible. I would rather know real experiences as long as people don't mind sharing xx

googietheegg Wed 03-Apr-13 19:06:30

Sorry for your mc. Rough, isn't it? hmm I got pg 2 months after my mmc, and I had pills and an erpc after the pills didn't work. Bled for a couple of weeks. Went on holiday and had a period and then got pg! Now have a lovely 11month dd. good luck!

PurplePoppySeed Wed 03-Apr-13 19:09:03

Also sorry to hear your news.

I took ages to get preg the 1st time, then had a MMC, found at 8 weeks - ERPC a few days later then light bleeding for another couple of weeks at least. (This was in Nov)

I took advice to wait for next AF before trying again as doc said it wasn't just for dating, she warned it would be very heavy and probably not "good quality" lining! To be fair, she was right in some ways, it was completely different, but much heavier with more clots and over much more quickly! It also helped me to plan ttc again more accurately as I knew where i was in my cycle.

I'm now at 16 weeks, due in early September, so I'm about 3 months behind where I was. You don't get over it, but it helps a lot once you are pregnant again I promise.

ldt87 Wed 03-Apr-13 19:10:07

My miscarriage has come about naturally and a scan has confirmed that everything has come away. I hope this means that at least my body is dealing with it properly. It has been rough, but I just hope that it doesn't take another 18 months plus to conceive again.

SESthebrave Wed 03-Apr-13 19:10:40

I'm sorry for your loss.

I got pg after 18mo of trying and discovered a mmc at 12wk scan. Then got pg 2 weeks later but had another mmc picked up by an early scan at 8 weeks. Then got pg 6 weeks later with DS.
When ttc DC2, it took 12mo to get pg, then mc at 6 weeks. Got pg with DD 3mo later.

It is a huge roller coaster but well worth it. I will never forget my lost babies but am so grateful for DD & DS.

PurplePoppySeed Wed 03-Apr-13 19:10:52

Ps forgot to say, only had that one AF, got pregnant straight after with a Christmas conception wink

ldt87 Wed 03-Apr-13 19:11:55

That's what I hope for purple, that a new pregnancy will ease the pain of this loss add give me something to be excited about and focus on.

Sorry to everyone for your losses xx

My first mc a didn't try again for a year then got pg within a couple of months

2nd mc i started ttc straight away and was pg again within 2 months.

3rd was a late mc at 20 weeks so waited a while then it took 8 months

Sorry about your mc and hope you conceive soon x

Lucky13ForBaby Wed 03-Apr-13 19:17:13

Sorry for your loss sad I had a Mc in August last year then fell pregnant next cycle and Mc again was really tough. I am pregnant now and it took 5 months. I am around 6 weeks now and a wreck! Be kind to yourself and seek support from those around you and professionals if needed. Wishing you all the best x

laurajane89 Wed 03-Apr-13 19:18:39

I had a missed miscarriage at the end of july and fell pregnant again at the end of august x

So sorry for your loss
I had a mc at 7wks, had 1af then pregnant next cycle unfortunatly mc again at 5 wks but pregnant before af and I'm currently 32wks, it had taken me 18months + previously to get pregnant with dd so either mc does make you more fertile or that and pregnancy itself, fx you don't have to wait aslong this time x

ldt87 Wed 03-Apr-13 19:42:55

Thanks everyone for talking about such a personal subject. I hope it happens soon for anyone still waiting. The thought of another miscarriage terrifies me, but I feel like only being pregnant again will help me heal xx

Idratherbe Wed 03-Apr-13 19:43:39

Have heart OP, I'm currently 8 weeks with what I hope will become DC2. It took a month to fall pregnant when first trying for DC2, that ended in natural MC at 8 weeks. It then took another 10 months to fall pregnant and that ended in natural MC at 4+5. Happily it only took 3 months to conceive this one, please let it stick!!

Be tender with yourself, it'll happen.

ldt87 Wed 03-Apr-13 19:46:55

Idratherbe congratulations on your pregnancy and sorry for your losses. I hope this is your time for a healthy baby and I wish you a happy pregnancy.

In everyone's experience, do you think miscarriage is more likely having already had 1?

DerbyNottsLeicsNightNanny Wed 03-Apr-13 19:47:26

I had mmc found at 10wks (had died at 7wks), had op in hospital & started trying within a fortnight. Got pg 3rd month of trying (so had 2 periods after mmc). Hope it happens for you soon.

Sorry to hear about your miscarriage, especially after waiting so long. I had a December miscarriage and was pregnant again in February with DD2. Best of luck.

ldt87 Wed 03-Apr-13 19:56:55

Thank you everyone. I think my best way of coming through this pain is to focus on trying again. Thank you for giving me a bit of hope while it feels so dark and painful.

FoofFighter Wed 03-Apr-13 19:59:10

MMC this time last year, pregnant again in November last year, now 21 weeks.

humblebumble Wed 03-Apr-13 20:03:15

Sorry for your loss.
I got pregnant first cycle of TTC, then I mc naturally at 6-8 weeks, waited AF then got pregnant straight away with DS1.
Pregnant first cycle of TTC, MMC at 13 weeks waited to miscarry naturally, waited one AF then got pregnant again (supported pregnancy with progesterone and baby aspirin)

GeoffVader Wed 03-Apr-13 20:07:43

I lmc'd in June, got pregnant again in August and am currently 34+6. It can happen smile but I am sorry for your loss, look after yourself xx

RicStar Wed 03-Apr-13 20:14:41

Sorry for your loss op. It took 6 months ttc then I mc at 9 weeks had one period & then started to try ttc again got & preg that month (much to my shock) dd is now 11 months.

whyno Wed 03-Apr-13 20:18:40

Had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks ( having taken 5 months ttc) than pregnant a month later, which was a healthy baby boy. Then miscarried at 6 weeks again last year and was pregnant again two months after! It's been true for me that it can happen very quickly after a miscarriage.

WildRumpus Wed 03-Apr-13 20:26:20

I had a MC at 9.5 weeks. As soon as it was confirmed that i had lost the baby i poured myself some wine and got some runny cheese and wrote a list of positive things I could do when not pregnant (scuba diving etc). When I went back to the hospital a few weeks later for a routine scan to check all was ok after the MC there was a heartbeat. I had conceived what would turn out to be my beautiful DS about 10 days after the MC - he's now nearly 4.

Thinkingof4 Wed 03-Apr-13 20:30:31

Sorry for your loss op
I had a mmc picked up at 12 week scan, baby stopped growing at about 7 weeks. That would have been dc2. I then got pregnant again after 4 months of trying resulting in ds2. I've since had ds3 and am now 27 weeks with dc4. I know I am extremely lucky, I just wanted to let you know that having one miscarriage doesn't necessarily mean you will have any more. I know exactly what you mean about needing to be pregnant again to heal, I remember feeling like that too.
Good luck op, and take care

holidaysdistantmemory Wed 03-Apr-13 20:40:47

I had my mmc discovered at my 12 week scan in June (utterly brutal). I had an erpc (which was the best thing out of a horrible situation). On and off bleeding for 3 months. Started trying again in September. Pregnant December (discovered on my due date ironically). At 7 week scan, discovered twins! Yesterday at 20 week scan, discovered both girls. What a journey. Good luck x

mumnosbest Wed 03-Apr-13 20:43:05

Sorry for your mc. For me it was 2 months relaxing and coming to terms the 2 months ttc. All the best!

holidaysdistantmemory Wed 03-Apr-13 20:50:09

Would also add that I haven't really enjoyed this pregnancy at all as mmc really dented my confidence in my body's ability to carry a baby (even tho I had 2 healthy pregnancies and babies before so am an 'old timer' so to speak), almost like I didn't 'trust it' not to trick me again which would be discovered at a scan. I had my 20wk scan yesterday and have started to very slightly relax. But it has helped me to get over the baby I lost a little, tho will never forget it or the experience. Good luck, and hope it all works out for you x

olivertheoctopus Wed 03-Apr-13 20:53:10

I had 3 months between each of my first 4 pg's (mc'd first 3 after ttc for 9 months). Then two DS's then another mc and pg again within 3 months again. They do say you are more fertile in the 3 months post mc but not sure how scientific that is.

Mmc at 12 weeks in the November, periods took a little while to come back but pregnant by the following march with dd who is now 16 months. She's my second though - so the Mmc was after I'd had DS. It was horrible (the mmc) - I remember feeling like my body was inadequate especially as it felt like loads of pregnant women around me.

MakingAnotherList Wed 03-Apr-13 20:55:18

MMC at 14 weeks.
Didn't try the first month after mmc, didn't succeed in the second month, conceived in the third month.
Good luck.

ldt87 Wed 03-Apr-13 20:59:48

I really appreciate the honest and heartbreaking answers from you all. It's sad that so many of us experience this. Thank you so much for talking to me. It gives me hope that I can move forward from this horrible time xx

Sorry for your loss.

I was pregnant v soon after a miscarriage, I think like you I was focused on moving forward ... Fwiw i had a v v troublesome pregnancy and hormonal troubles that have taken years to settle. ive often wondered if it would have been better to have waited a while...

newbie6 Wed 03-Apr-13 22:41:29

Sorry for your loss. I had a miscarriage at 6weeks and was told to wait until I had, had a period. We were very lucky in that I conceived the first month of trying. We conceived the first time also with my pregnancy that resulted in a miscarriage but know we were very lucky. Wish you well and know how hard it is, take care x

Reebok Wed 03-Apr-13 22:59:45

Ldt I'm so sorry for your loss. With time, your pain will ease. I won't pretend it's something you forget, but it does get easier. I lost my baby to a mmc last summer. We waited 3 months before trying again as I felt I needed to heal mentally and then I got extremely lucky and fell pregnant as soon as we started trying. I'm now 6 months pregnant with a healthy active LO who is kicking away as I type this message. So have faith that it will also work out for you.. It may take you 3 weeks to conceive or 3 months. Everyone is different but you will have a healthy pregnancy again. Sending you cyber hugs x

andadietcoke Thu 04-Apr-13 08:18:50

I'm sorry for your loss. Be kind to yourself and take your time. I couldn't even bear to think about DtD for about 6 weeks after my mc.

I miscarried in November at 6 weeks, so very early. Was told to wait two cycles but I think that was more a mental health than a health thing, and everyone on my mc thread was told something different. Waited one cycle and really glad I did as that first period was brutal. Ended up having to go out at lunchtime to buy a whole new bottom half of an outfit.

Used OPKs next cycle and glad I did as I ov'ed later than normal, but got pregnant. Like holidaysdistantmemory scan at 7w showed twins. I'm 17w now and trying to relax a bit. Some days it works, some days it doesn't. Good luck!

cupcake78 Thu 04-Apr-13 08:22:35

Straight away but didn't try for 4mths after each mc.

shelley72 Thu 04-Apr-13 13:20:13

sorry for your loss. its a horrible time.

after DC1 i had a MMC at 11 weeks. i had an ERPC and then we waited 3 months to try again - we were recommended 12 wks by the hospital and tbh emotionally i couldnt have contemplated even trying.

however literally on the first attempt, i got pg with DC2 who is now 2 smile. had a very nervous 12 wks waiting for scans and felt on edge all pregnancy but she was fine. happily i am now pg with DC3 and so far so good (27 wks).

i cant say that i dont think about it now, as i do often, and i will never forget. nor will i ever know why DC2 made it, or why this one has made it so far and the other one didnt. but i am so grateful that i have DC2 and she wouldnt be here if things had been different.

so good luck, as you can see there are lots of positive stories here - yours will hopefully come soon!

Mintie190 Thu 04-Apr-13 13:35:20

Sorry that you are going through this. I found it very tough when I miscarried last June. I am now holding my 4 day old son, conceived the first month of trying. I left it one month after having the ERPC before starting again. It took me 7 months to conceive DD1, 3 months with the miscarried one and 1 month with this one so it was the fastest. Wishing you the best of luck - I'm sure you won't be waiting long.

ldt87 Thu 04-Apr-13 13:51:02

Thank you all, xx

PurplePoppySeed Thu 04-Apr-13 20:32:58

Good luck ltd

Animol Fri 05-Apr-13 09:28:35

It took me 2 years to get pregnant - then I miscarried at about 7 weeks - got pregnant exactly a year later - exactly same due date - beautiful dd. Now pregnant again and the due date is the day I miscarried. All the very best - hope your dreams come true.

DontmindifIdo Fri 05-Apr-13 09:38:02

I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks in July, I got pregnant again in September. I found it very hard to get myself excited about this pregnancy until after the due date had been and gone for the one I'd lost. It does feel little like this pregnancy hasn't been as exciting as if I'd let myself 'get over' the loss before getting pregnant again.

This time round, at my booking in appointment, the MW told me off for getting pregnant so soon and said this pregnancy was high risk as I hadn't given my body time to recover. I was seeing her on a Friday and the following day I'd already booked a private early scan at 8 weeks to just reassure me everything was ok. She told me that she'd wish I'd told her that beforehand as she'd have rearranged this booking in appointment until after the private scan "to be sure this isn't just a waste of everyone's time if you've lost it again".

thankfully, that midwife moved to another area and I've now got a lovely supportive midwife.

SevenReasonsToSmile Fri 05-Apr-13 15:17:49

Sorry for your loss OP.

I had an early MC in June last year, waited one cycle then got pregnant on first month of trying. I'm now 32 weeks.

Shootingstarsandcomets Fri 05-Apr-13 15:32:43

Another mmc here last year. Pregnant again after a month of trying and it was a sticky one. Good luck smile

13loki Fri 05-Apr-13 16:49:44

Sorry for your loss. I had à mc middle of February at 7 weeks. I'm now nearly 6 weeks pg (I think), so we conceived about 3 weeks after my mc. Good luck

MrsMarigold Fri 05-Apr-13 16:54:16

7 months - timing was bad so didn't really try for another six months.

After second miscarriage - 6 weeks

LovesBeingWokenEveryNight Fri 05-Apr-13 16:58:21

I'm so sorry.

I got pg again straight away. I didn't have a period in between and it was wise nnetters who told me to poas. In fact by the time I had my internal scan I was already pg again how do early it was in detected.

ldt87 Sat 06-Apr-13 10:49:03

Thank you to everyone, I feel hopeful after reading real accounts of people's experiences. My bleeding stopped yesterday so the physical side at least is over. Now to get on with trying again xx
