Am I in labour?

(92 Posts)
TeaJunky Tue 20-Nov-12 10:55:40

I'm 38 + 2.

Period pains started Friday morning. Ease up a little with paracetamol which I've constantly been taking but then come back.

Have vomited once severely but no tummy bug symptoms. Eating as normal.

Today the pains are a bit more severe.

Am I in labour? I'm so confused and a bit worried now.

TeaJunky Tue 20-Nov-12 11:12:55

Anyone? sad

MrsAceRimmer Tue 20-Nov-12 11:15:10

Maybe. I would give your midwife a phone and she can help.
Are the pains regular? Try timing them (I know it's boring) for length and distance apart.
Good luck and congratulations smile

reikizen Tue 20-Nov-12 11:15:53

probably early labour. Try to eat, drink and rest as much as possible as this could go on for days smile

Princessishavingababyboo Tue 20-Nov-12 11:17:02

This could be the start of early labour. I would speak to your mw for advice. Good luck smile

TeaJunky Tue 20-Nov-12 11:21:45

Oh goodness, go on for days???

I'll ring the midwife I think.

Does eating pineapple etc really speed it up?

Princessishavingababyboo Tue 20-Nov-12 11:35:05

Tea you can try pineapple, but mostly eat, drink and walking helps move things along.

TeaJunky Tue 20-Nov-12 12:04:28

Thanks princess.
I've called in and they said to come in. Eeeek.

Princessishavingababyboo Tue 20-Nov-12 12:14:23

Ooh good luck!

MrsAceRimmer Tue 20-Nov-12 12:28:53

Good luck! Hopefully you will be meeting your baby soon smile

TeaJunky Tue 20-Nov-12 18:58:06

I'm back. sad

Had the most painful internal in the world, and she announced the cervix is still closed. I then bled straight after! Is that normal?? Is an internal even ok at this stage?

Feeling sorry for myself and drowning my sorrows in a cup of raspberry tea sad

Princessishavingababyboo Tue 20-Nov-12 21:05:32

Oh Tea sorry you had a hard time, internal's are fine, can sometimes help things move. did she give you a sweep while she was there? Also did you mention the bleeding to them after? You will meet this baby soon.

TeaJunky Tue 20-Nov-12 21:24:34

I keep wiping away mucousy blood confused

I just rang them and midwife said its perfectly normal for that to happen after an internal, as there are loads of little blood vessels around the neck of the womb that can be disturbed... No sweep, princess, the internal was torture enough sad

Princessishavingababyboo Tue 20-Nov-12 21:31:14

Oh Tea here thanks brew hope you feel better soon {{{{hugs}}}}

TeaJunky Tue 20-Nov-12 21:48:54

Thank you, princess, you are lovely arnt you <sniff> ..

I'm just in one of those very fragile moods ... ! Nothing that a nice cuppa can't fix smile

Feeling fragile could also be a sign that things are imminent - me and DH had the most frightful row the night before I went into labour with DS wink

Lots of rest, carb-load and fluids, baby will appear when they're ready

Princessishavingababyboo Wed 21-Nov-12 08:04:40

Morning Tea how are you feeling today? brew [toast] for you.

kalidasa Wed 21-Nov-12 08:33:00

Hello tea I'm in the same boat, 38+5. Lost my mucus plug at the weekend and period pain off and on for the last few days, really thought it was getting going yesterday morning but then all tailed off. Trying to stay zen about it! It will happen for us eventually.

Sorry about painful examination. I'm trying to avoid going in until I'm sure I'm on the way as I've heard that internal checks are generally less uncomfortable once you're in established labour.

TeaJunky Wed 21-Nov-12 10:10:00

Morning princess smile aahh, lovely cheers! grin I had a very hot ad sweaty night, had to open the window! shock ...and change the sheets again blush

Kali - hi there smile glad to have the company - please feel free to join me in feeling fragile grin

This morning I've lost more of my mucus plug, I think....

Oooh plug going is a great sign, won't be long now!

Princessishavingababyboo Wed 21-Nov-12 15:26:32

Ooh Tea it is all sounding very imminent smile I had my 16 week check today (dc3) and heard the little thumpy heartbeat for the first time smilesmile

Good luck. thanks

TeaJunky Wed 21-Nov-12 20:15:00

Awwwwwww princess! How lovely smile

Are you getting any sickness or anything? I was sooooo sick at 16 weeks!

TeaJunky Wed 21-Nov-12 20:16:06

Mmmnoodlesoup- my in laws are all waiting for The Phone Call grin ...

Princessishavingababyboo Wed 21-Nov-12 20:22:17

I seem fine, no sickness but my back is aching a lot sad how are you tonight?

kalidasa Wed 21-Nov-12 22:38:14

How's it going tea? Any more progress? My contractions came back today, more definitely contractions than Monday/Tuesday morning, but very infrequently, only about once an hour. So a pretty slow process it seems! Trying to stay chilled and get plenty of rest in preparation.

Countmyblessings Wed 21-Nov-12 22:53:11

Tea & Kali - sounds like a race to the finish line for you both!!!
I lost my mucus plug at 39 weeks had my ds that night! After MW told me I was not ready as baby not engaged!!!!!!
Babies will come when ready!
Keep active, don't panic when the pain hits you'll know!
Hope all is good and you have a good support network! (Bag packed with notes!)Dh,DP,GF, etc

Hugs all around - congrats on scan princess!

TeaJunky Thu 22-Nov-12 09:50:31

Oooh Kali, how are you???

Princess, backache is awful..hot water bottle is your best friend!

My contractions have ..er, dissapeared confused ...off to buy a new tv today!

Can I join you labouring ladies?
Been having period pains since Monday evening, lost my plug yesterday then been having strong contraction all night. They were at 1 minute long and 8 minutes apart but seem to have gone to 10-12 minutes for the last hour.

DH is at work so not sure when to get him home, also don't want to ring the birth centre too early

rogersmellyonthetelly Thu 22-Nov-12 10:03:10

I had this for nearly a week with dd. would get niggly cramps, backache, be grumpy, couple of hours of painful contractions about 10 minutes apart then they would just stop. Drove me bloody nuts.

kalidasa Thu 22-Nov-12 10:37:55

Had quite a wakeful night and thought things were getting going, but this morning I am back to period pains, the clear contractions seem to have stopped for now. Never mind! Off to the midwife this morning so will see what she says. I guess it's got to happen eventually. For now I am just concentrating on resting and eating to keep up my energy.

How far away is your DH fatima? I'm not planning to summon DP unless or until the contractions are quite seriously painful and fairly close together (five mins or so), but that's because a) I think I prefer being on my own in the early stages; b) he's only half an hour away, and c) we're only five mins from the hospital. Also it's my first so I assume that even when it gets going properly the first stage is likely to last for ages.

Hi Kali I hope it gets going for you soon. DHs work is 15 minutes away, I was thinking of asking him to finish at lunch time as i'm starting to feel a bit fed up and antsy and I don't want my anxiety to kick in. Also worried about calling him too soon though and wasting him time off.

After I posted here I had 30 mins of no contractions but they've started back up again at 8 minutes. I haven't rung the hospital yet, was going to wait until 5 minutes apart confused
I've been sick a couple of times and had numerous toilet trips so i'm a bit fed up

TeaJunky Thu 22-Nov-12 12:25:44

Aww hi Fatima...welcome to the nearly there club! grin got my fingers crossed for you!

Kali - never mind, eating and resting good plan. The period pains and grumpiness are driving me mad too, poor DH is bearing the brunt of it blush

Got the new tv - 3D SMART - wow! Can't wait to snuggle down with DH tonight and watch a movie, perfect timing wink

Princessishavingababyboo Thu 22-Nov-12 15:58:58

Well Tea now you have lovely relaxing plans with your new tv for tonight, you know what will happen don't you??wink grin

TeaJunky Thu 22-Nov-12 17:59:05

Princess ... grin ... Baby had better behave! Dd is having a go watching Wolves, Witches and Giants..then it's movie time smile

How's the backache princess?

Princessishavingababyboo Fri 23-Nov-12 07:32:59

Morning all you nearly there ladies, how are you all today? Tea how was your relaxing tv night?

kalidasa Fri 23-Nov-12 08:48:40

Yesterday the same thing happened - definite contractions in the afternoon/evening and a restless night, but no obvious labour. The baby's head has definitely dropped even further as my SPD is now so bad that I can't walk at all, just standing up is really agonising and I've had to bring the crutches I've been on for months into the flat for the first time. Bit depressing but obviously a sign that the baby is v. low and right in my pelvis. Fingers crossed things get going soon because otherwise I'll start getting quite fed up!

Any news tea? And fatima sounded well on the way yesterday - any baby yet?

TeaJunky Fri 23-Nov-12 09:05:16

Awww Kali - sorry to hear you're in pain, but hopefully not long to go now! Try to stay off your feet as much as you can smile

I'm still pregnant and fed up and my friend who was also pregnant has had her baby envy

Fatima has gone very quiet.......

kalidasa Fri 23-Nov-12 12:07:19

I'm pretty sure fatima has gone in. Hurrah!

TeaJunky Fri 23-Nov-12 19:12:37

shock oooooohhhhhhh...do you think !!!!

Princessishavingababyboo Fri 23-Nov-12 21:29:54

There must be a new baby by now! How is everyone else?

TeaJunky Sat 24-Nov-12 13:16:23

Hallo princess...Kali, how are you? Fatima...WHERE are you???!

No baby here...just been to DD's Christmas fair, got a bag of daffodil bulbs to plant for spring ..lovely mark of DD's first proper school/nursery, waiting for baby and new house smile

kalidasa Sat 24-Nov-12 16:45:57

Hello all. Still stuck in some sort of protracted pre-labour. Contractions off and on but nothing regular or really serious yet. Been a week of this now! Fingers crossed Fatima is enjoying her new baby. Are you still having any symptoms Tea or has it all gone quiet?

TeaJunky Sun 25-Nov-12 01:11:52

Hallo kali, I'm exactly the same. Had some strong contractions earlier - almost doubled over in pain - and then it all stopped after an hour. sad

Trying my best to not let it get me down!

MIL, FIL and mum calling every day to ask what's happening confused

Princessishavingababyboo Sun 25-Nov-12 17:11:49

Evening ladies, what's (or who's) new? smile

Countmyblessings Sun 25-Nov-12 22:12:26

Countmyblessings Mon 26-Nov-12 11:03:09

Lol -princess - trust me there will always be someone going through the happy bits of pregnancy you have just been through!
No thanks with the swap!!!!! But you have full support on all the wonderful pregnant things you still have to look forwards too like limited space in belly to eat!!!!

Anyone had a baby yet!!!!!!

TeaJunky Mon 26-Nov-12 23:09:59

Still no baby here sad

kalidasa Tue 27-Nov-12 04:31:10

Nor here! Loads of contractions yesterday though and now I can't sleep. Got to happen eventually!

TeaJunky Tue 27-Nov-12 07:20:52

Hi Kali, how the contractions today?

Did a huge shop yday and bought lots of nibbles and tea things for guests for when the baby arrives eventually ..hid them away as DH is snack fiend in this house hmm

I slept in DD's bed last night, she wasn't well and wanted daddy. I am now grumpy, tired and annoyed and have slight back pain.

How is everyone else?

MissLToeishavingsantasbaby Tue 27-Nov-12 08:19:26

<Runs in to a storm of tinsel> Tis I, Princess ::Twirls:: grin

There will be baby snuggles very soon! Slight back pain eh Tea you know what that is smile Good luck to you and Kali

kalidasa Tue 27-Nov-12 10:42:02

Pains quite nice and regular this morning - every few mins I reckon though haven't actually timed them. They are not very impressive though. And they were pretty regular all yesterday morning and again yesterday evening as well so I am not at all convinced yet.

I ordered loads of stuff on Amazon yesterday - DVDs to watch and things to do over the next week or so - as I decided it was best just to reconcile myself to being stuck like this for a while longer.

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo Tue 27-Nov-12 10:51:43

Ooh Kali it does sound like a good dose of early labour to me smile get ready, eat and rest if you can.

FestiveFannyFarts Tue 27-Nov-12 15:12:52

Oh how lovely a triple labour thread.
28+3 here so a bit to go for me but it's all very exciting listening to you all.
Fingers crossed baby's arrive soon

kalidasa Tue 27-Nov-12 15:14:56

Pains have almost stopped again. Really, I am never going to have this baby! How about you tea?

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo Tue 27-Nov-12 15:17:43

Tea has been suspiciously quiet today smile

Kali they will start up again, I promise, I really really do.

FestiveFannyFarts Tue 27-Nov-12 20:05:00

oh its all gone very quiet..

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo Tue 27-Nov-12 20:06:03

<sniffing about for the new baby smell>

kalidasa Wed 28-Nov-12 02:50:21

Woken up at 1.15 by a big pain, 90 mins later and they're coming every 10-15 mins. Not very close together but definitely more intense. Fingers crossed it is finally happening!

Trying to hold off waking DP as he was pretty shattered.

FestiveFannyFarts Wed 28-Nov-12 06:33:33

How are you now kalidasa ?

TeaJunky Wed 28-Nov-12 08:50:29

Oooooh Kali...how are you lovely?

[offers soothing back rub and bottle of lucozade]

TwistTee Wed 28-Nov-12 10:33:33

Hi ladies, mind if I join the chat. I suspect I'm a bit further away than most of you at 37+4, although dd came at 36.
Been finding it much harder to stand up let alone move as baby seems very low in my pelvis.
Lots of discharge this morning but no loss of mucus plug or contractions. Last time I didn't have either of these until the very last moment. dd was born 90 mins after my 1st contraction and about 2hrs after waters broke.
I feel like I'm ready now, but not sure the baby agrees. Think he might just torture me some more.

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo Wed 28-Nov-12 11:28:25

Hello and welcome Twist I think I win the medal for being further away though (18 weeks with #3) sounds like you need to be ready for it to happen any minute, very exciting!

Kali hope you are ok my dear, sneezing that baby out as we speak.

Tea how are you today?

<leaves cake and brew>

FestiveFannyFarts Wed 28-Nov-12 12:47:57

The babies must of been had and getting squishy cuddles by now

TeaJunky Wed 28-Nov-12 22:58:11

Welcome twist!

Princess, love the new sparkly name wink but can I still call you princess grin

Kali - how are you???

No squishy baby here I'm afraid. Had my final midwife appointment today...and have been given an appointment for 12/12/12 in case I'm STILL pregnant and need inducing etc !!!

Midwife said to have lots of sex blush

I am currently on iPhone and DH on iPad - it just ain't gonna happen is it?

Damn Apple for ruining my sex life and delaying my labour grin

FestiveFannyFarts Wed 28-Nov-12 23:55:08

Ah sure just tell him its his duty... He must help get it out the way he put it in smile

BexGershon Thu 29-Nov-12 05:20:11

Hello all, can I join??
Today is my due date and...nothing!!
Have been having a few twinges until now but my midwife said I'm still not engaged and nothing will happen until I am!
It's odd as I have having bad back pain and feel it couldbe my time...baby will come when it's ready I suppose.
tea I have also been given the 12th as my induction...how the hell I'll wait till then I don't know!!!!!
I have really bad thrush at the moment so along with the normal pregnancy pains i am just so uncomfortable now sad

TeaJunky Thu 29-Nov-12 07:58:57

Hiya bex, welcome welcome!

It's the pain and the twinges that make you think it's happening - so frustrating isn't it! And wow you're with me on 12th, how lovely smile

Im having pains this morning...but I won't hold my breath. They go after an hour.,first time I actually want pain to hang around/worsen!

Festive, oh he has no issue with helping to get it out the way he put it in grin

TeaJunky Thu 29-Nov-12 08:00:37

Oh and bex, sorry to hear bout thrush and your discomfort sad ..have you tried plain live yoghurt down there ? It does really help.

TeaJunky Fri 30-Nov-12 01:26:09

Oooh some exciting news ladies...

DH, dd and I were having a lovely, cosy evening, DH on laptop downloading films to watch later, dd drawing tinkerbells with her new crayola, and me pottering in the kitchen making a lamb chop dinner..when there was a sudden trickle and then a big GUSH and my waters broke! shock

It wouldn't stop and I yelled to DH that my waters have broken, who came running with dd (who wanted to know which glass mummy had broken and where was the water spilt grin) ....

Anyway! I've been in to hospital and am only 2cm so came home to 'mobilise' hmm don't know what that involves exactly but ive cleaned my kitchen and put the dryer on while waiting for thR contractions to kick in! grin

Going to sleep now...will keep you ladies posted smile xxx

Countmyblessings Fri 30-Nov-12 02:13:21

Ohhhhhh Tea - that's wonderful news and I do hope your labour is quick and as painless as possible!!!
Hopefully will wake up to the happy news of a baby on this thread!!!

FestiveFannyFarts Fri 30-Nov-12 09:26:48

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo Fri 30-Nov-12 09:47:50

<joins Festivefanny waiting for news brewbrew - anyone else want one?>

TeaJunky Fri 30-Nov-12 15:39:12

Nothing yet blush

Going in at 8 to be induced shock

What can I doooooo help!

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo Fri 30-Nov-12 15:42:01

Get some rest, plenty to eat and pack snacks. Oh good luck lovely brew you will meet your baby very very soon. X

If you pack snacks for your other half, don't put onion or tuna in for him, you do not want that being breathed out near you.

thanks for you, bear for baby tea.

Countmyblessings Sat 01-Dec-12 01:09:29

Ohhhh sorry Tea that this is not plain sailing!
But it's good too know lovely beautiful healthy baby in your arms real soon!
All the best nice date for a baby 01/12/12!
Def pack easy to eat snacks cause you'll starve in the hospital - mini chedders, peanuts crisps biscuits to build up your sugar levels!

Bellaboo123 Sat 01-Dec-12 05:01:09

Can I join too please?

Due 11/12 but think I've been having contractions since midnight. Called MW who said sounds like early stages so I'm just trying to wish away the hours until I get to meet my LO!

MissLToeishavingsantasbabyboo Sat 01-Dec-12 09:16:25

Hi Bella ooh sounds good, is this your first [nosey emoticon]

LordOfThe5Rings Sat 01-Dec-12 13:52:27

Oooh how exciting for everyone.

I hope you all are cuddling your little ones right now :D

I have a while to go as 21+5 but makes me pretty glad haven't quite got to the discomfort level you lovely ladies have reached yet. It's just the start of the awkward kicks and frequent bathroom trips smile
