Erm....I think I might be pregnant!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 01:51:10

My boobs have been really sore for about a week, so bad I've bought a three pack of those ugly bras, I've always had tenderness before a period, but only for a day or so, I've also noticed a strange taste in my mouth, not enough to think much about it, until now, I've just read an early sign is a metallic taste, and that's the taste, couldn't put my finger on it before.

Slight twinges like mild period pains and wind.

I still don't want to believe it, I'm 39, this will be my first if I really am, but reading that about the metallic taste kinda made a light come on.

Early pregnancy symptoms REALLY feel like a period coming.....That's rather confusing.

I don't have anyone to tell, my husband is sleeping.

Blimey!!!

shock confused smile

blush

itsnotmymainmainpresent Sat 17-Nov-12 01:53:15

Is it a good thing or a bad thing?

Will you POAS tomorrow?

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 01:58:17

POAS? I'm totally new to this. smile

It's a good thing, we've not used anything for about ten years and had accepted that we probably wouldn't have any kids, we were OK with that but I think I secretly buried the urge.

I'm still not sure but reading about that taste kinda threw me.

bellabelly Sat 17-Nov-12 01:58:36

Assuming that it would be good news if you're pregnant - congrats!

bellabelly Sat 17-Nov-12 01:59:36

POAS = pee on a stick, ie, do a pregnancy test...

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 02:00:01

It does sound like I am then? (don't worry I know I need to test wink)

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 02:02:43

POAS - My very first acronym smile

I'm so tempted to ring my sister

must stay cool, might not be

bellabelly Sat 17-Nov-12 02:03:51

Well, no guarantees, but yes sounds v much like you might be! I remember that metallic taste very well! Are you feeling v tired at weird times too? It's hard to say because as you say early pregnancy symptoms are v similar to "period coming" symptoms but th eweird taste in mouth suggests that you are... Will you update this thread when you've tested?! smile

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 02:06:23

Yes, but it's very early if I am, two weeks and a day, my husband's been working away so I know exactly blush , that's why I'm trying to be cool about it, not even sure if it would show on a test yet!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 02:07:15

Oh, and I'm always tired anyway grin

bellabelly Sat 17-Nov-12 02:08:54

It would show up on a first response or a clearblue digital... just saying! grin

bellabelly Sat 17-Nov-12 02:10:40

Pregnancy is dated from your last period so (depending on your exact cycle) you'd be 4-6 weeks probably. Test in the morning!!!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 02:10:50

Y'know, we got married in August, we decided to wed after 18 years together, and now (possibly) this!

That's quite weird.

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 02:11:37

How on earth am I supposed to sleep? grin

BigWhoop Sat 17-Nov-12 02:11:47

I wore a sanitary towel for a week when I was pregnant because I thought I was coming on imminently - so yes my pregnancy symptoms were just the same. Also remember the funny taste... urgh.

The other thing is slight nausea when thinking about horrid stuff like dog poo?

Sounds like you could well be pregnant :-) When was AF? Can you POAS anytime soon?

bellabelly Sat 17-Nov-12 02:12:54

Haha, I have no idea! Am off to bed now but will be checking back tomorrow... smile

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 02:13:04

AF?

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sat 17-Nov-12 02:16:30

Aunt Flo - period.

How exciting! The taste is a big plus IME.

Now go to sleep and test ASAP in the morning! grin

isitmidnightalready Sat 17-Nov-12 02:19:39

I think you are - identical symptoms to my three pregnancies. Do you have a oversensitive sense of smell right now?

hope you get some sleep!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 02:23:18

I honestly can't remember, I hardly take any notice of my periods, I really thought one of us was infertile so it's not an issue (if that makes sense)

3 weeks? 4 weeks?

I'll update you tomorrow, I'm going to try to sleep

Thanks so much for being here, I might have gone pop if I hadn't let it out

(Or woken my sister a mum of 3 under 7, I would NOT have been popular grin)

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 04:00:24

Good luck. Metallic taste was always an early sign for me, oh and the runs!!! Lol.

Hope you get exactly what you wish for. You want to test your first wee of the morning as its more concentrated so if you haven't got any tests then personally I'd wee in a pot and go and get a test. Best of luck x

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 04:27:09

I'm gonna send hubby out first thing for a test so it's here as soon as soon as I get out of bed.

Can't sleep, surprise, surprise.

magoosmom Sat 17-Nov-12 04:35:42

Good luck ! I think I'm pregnant too grin can't sleep at all tonight and have been waking randomly for the last few nights, happened me last time too, very thirsty too and mouth feels swollen on the inside or lips feel too big. Have Massive boobs and a sore back .Will be testing tomorrow too tho probably not til the evening as dont have any tests and don't want to buy one in my local pharmacy (live in a very small village where everyone knows me!) keep us updated grin

AndMiffyWentToSleep Sat 17-Nov-12 04:36:15

Oh that is exciting - really hope you are!

Have you managed to sleep at all?

lunar1 Sat 17-Nov-12 04:45:39

The metallic taste was my first symptom too op, good luck!

MummyV18 Sat 17-Nov-12 04:46:01

They were my exact symptoms.

The two things that made me question myself were the very sore boobs (I wanted rid of my boobs lol) and I had fantom period feeling lol

I tested and was 2 weeks pregnant.

Good luck Hun grin

CountingSparrows Sat 17-Nov-12 05:11:06

Good luck... Hurry up husband!

Lougle Sat 17-Nov-12 05:20:34

How lovely :-)

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 05:22:23

Not had any sleep, that's OK nothing doing tomorrow. I've taken to the spare room, so i can surf the net, hubby just got up to visit the little boy's room, he's far too unexcited :D Don't think he wants to believe it till heis sees the test but my body is pretty much telling me all i need to know.

Bless him <3

Good luck to people POAS tomorrow.

Good luck!

RPosieB Sat 17-Nov-12 06:17:18

I'm nearly 18 weeks and suffering from insomnia. Love mumsnet in the forsaken hours!
I truly hope your instincts are right! How exciting.
Keep us posted. Good luck!

winterland Sat 17-Nov-12 06:24:19

Keep us posted! Fingers crossed you get the result you want.

emeraldgirl1 Sat 17-Nov-12 06:28:32

OP your symptoms like many have already said are identical to what mine were (am now 22 weeks)! Sore sore boobs that were enlarged (so much so that a shop assistant told me the week before my period was due that I had 'big boobs' (I have always been an A cup. It was at that point that I really began to think something was up...)

Gross taste in mouth and (not sure if you have this?) heightened sense of smell, I could smell garlic everywhere.

Just like you I couldn't sleep the night of the day my period was due and woke at 5 just KNOWING. I waited til 6 to test because (even though pregnancy was planned and wanted!!) I just wanted a last bit of time to myself in my old life before everything changed forever if you see what I mean.

Am keeping everything crossed for you and good luck!!! Please let us know outcome smile x

Twinklestarstwinklestars Sat 17-Nov-12 06:30:11

Good luck, sounds positive though, I'm 5 weeks and have cramps in my tummy which I don't normally get but make me panic all the time!

dancinginthemoonlight Sat 17-Nov-12 06:31:16

Good luck OP shamelessly following

cat Sat 17-Nov-12 06:36:08

Come on OP! Your nearest big supermarket must open at 7?? Is DH dressed and ready to go???? grin

saffronwblue Sat 17-Nov-12 06:36:59

Good luck.

karatekimmi Sat 17-Nov-12 06:46:54

Don't you have a 24 hour supermarket?

My boobs were the first indication and were really sore, I cried at something ridiculous on the radio. These started playing in my head and at 6am on a Saturday morning went to 24 hour tesco and brought a test! My DS is currently peeing on his mat!!

Good luck!

leelteloo Sat 17-Nov-12 06:56:30

And don't rely on those tests that say they can work up to 4 days early. I was convinced I was pg and for 4th time so I knew the signs, too impatient and could not wait. Bought one did it 4 days before period due, negative. Did the other one 1 day before, negative. Went out and got drunk because was so disappointed. Week later still no period, had pound shop test in draw, positive. Just trying to feed the little man as I type this.
So excited for you: got everything crossed. Xx

PickledGerkin Sat 17-Nov-12 07:01:25

Come on, there must be somewhere open grin you must have a 24hour supermarket near you.

This is too exciting, I really hope you are pregnant.

SoulTrain Sat 17-Nov-12 07:03:40

What's happening? Are you at Big ASDA? This is too exciting

wooo how exciting, I really hope you are. Looking forward to hearing tomorrow smile

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 07:04:59

He's more interested in his lie-in. Am in tears.

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 07:06:56

Desperately trying not to smoke a cigarette , had no idea yesterday that i'd be stopping today. sad

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 07:08:09

Ah Pondilly. Have you tried waking him? Can you go yourself?

He's probably mentally shut it out as wont believe anything until he sees it...

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 07:10:14

Not sad about smoking btw, sad (and shocked) that my husband could be so selfish at a time like this

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 07:10:15

Oh by the way, although I've not experienced it myself I've heard on mumsnet that some people have had false negatives with the digital ones. Personally I'd go for one which displays a line as sometimes it would be so faint it doesn't pick it up on the digital ones. Or get him to buy both smile

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 07:11:32

I desperately need a wee, he needs to go, I'll just have to wait.

Northernexile Sat 17-Nov-12 07:12:08

Ooh good luck! I'll have my fingers crossed for you!

MasterOfBuggerAll Sat 17-Nov-12 07:13:24

To be fair he is probably trying to not get his hopes up.

However an arse he is being, getting irrationally upset was another sign I was preg grin

Good luck pond

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 07:13:52

I don't know what to suggest, but everyone handles things differently - this is going to be HUGE for you both if it is positive. He'll need to come to terms with it as well...

I'm just trying to be objective but saying that I know I'd be feeling exactly the same as you.

NarcolepsyQueen Sat 17-Nov-12 07:14:35

You can pee into a clean pot or mug/glass and save it for the POAS!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 07:14:57

Lol, the tears were quite dramatic and have now gone :-D

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 07:15:50

If you've got any plastic tumblers you could wee in one of those and keep it.. I'm sure it wouldn't matter for a little while.

RikersBeard Sat 17-Nov-12 07:16:28

If you do some wee in a pot it'll still count as early morning wee. So you don't have to wait till you've got a test.

then get yourself off to the supermarket

Best of luck. Try not to be sad about DH not rushing off. I found mine didn't get excited about any of this stuff at first.

LookAtHerGo Sat 17-Nov-12 07:16:57

Good luck

Find a nice clean pot, pee in the pit, then you can dunk the stick in the pot in a little bit, saves you lying there desperate for a wee, and no chance of missing the stick when peeing. All of my POAS times were actually sticks I'd dunked in a pot.

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 07:17:10

I don't have to do a test mid stream? Aren't all off the shelf ones mid stream??

LookAtHerGo Sat 17-Nov-12 07:18:27

Looks like I was beaten to the pee in a pot suggestion.

Ooo marking my place fingers crossed for you OP. The tears sound promising!grin

AThingInYourLife Sat 17-Nov-12 07:19:40

"(Or woken my sister a mum of 3 under 7, I would NOT have been popular )"

You would have been smile

I have 3 under 5, I would have been overjoyed to take your call.

<fingers and toes crossed>

RikersBeard Sat 17-Nov-12 07:19:50

No, just collect some, I always found it easier that way anyway

I'd try a first response

LookAtHerGo Sat 17-Nov-12 07:20:10

Midstream means urine that is not the first tiny bit of wee that comes out. And all tests I've ever done have been ones you can also do in a pot. And I've done almost every make grin

Geordieminx Sat 17-Nov-12 07:20:36

(((Ticks off "emotional wreck" on list if symptoms))))))

grin

yellowsubmarine53 Sat 17-Nov-12 07:20:52

I think mid-stream is to maximise the chances of the pregnancy hormone being present.

Being stored in a pot for a short time should be fine. Oh, and make sure that you get a twin pack, so that you can test again later if need be.

Good luck.

Lurking...
Op if you are pregnant talk to your mw about smoking. There's a lot of support for you to quit, you don't have to just use willpoweer.
Now...back to the important stuff

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 07:23:27

I've always peed in a pot first... Dread to think what mess is get myself into aiming onto a stick smile

Pot wee is best!! Do it do it do it!!! LOL so exciting smile

WeAreSix Sat 17-Nov-12 07:27:00

Exciting! Definitely get first response.

My DH also refused to go to supermarket to get me a pregnancy test... I had been 'sure' several times I was pregnant over the years of trying and never had been so he didn't think it was a bug deal.

We had a huge row and I flounced off in my pyjamas to Sainsburys to get a test.

I was pregnant :-)

Good luck!!

WeAreSix Sat 17-Nov-12 07:27:55

Big deal not bug deal!!

My dp also refused to get me a test even though I'd been asking for a good few days. He didn't think I could be pregnant as I had a coil in. 34+2 currently grin

milkymocha Sat 17-Nov-12 07:32:20

How exciting! Iam another Pot Pee-r so that should be fine smile hurry up!!!

Geordieminx Sat 17-Nov-12 07:33:54

Pregnant with a coil!??? Fuck sakes!

(((Paranoid)))

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 07:38:35

I have wee-ed but forgot to say i don't drive so there's still gonna be a wait.

Feel like i'm letting my public down grin

Ooh I missed the coil bit . Just abt to het one. Ooh

PragmaticWench Sat 17-Nov-12 07:41:52

Peeing into a pot and dipping the test stick into it is so much easier than trying to pee on the stick itself. I ended up getting urine on the control window and wasting an expensive test by trying to aim on the stick.

I can't be the only person who keeps a small pot that is used for only this purpose?

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 07:43:09

Is he awake yet?

You'd better run Pondlily wink

Yeah it was still in too, hadn't even fallen out grin

LookAtHerGo Sat 17-Nov-12 07:47:21

pragmatic my pot I used for my tests was the very same one I use/used for my antenatal app wees, apparently my mw tells everyone about one of her ladies and her pot (ie me) I can't pee in those little stupid tubes they give you at the docs and hosp I always miss them.

JaquelineHyde Sat 17-Nov-12 07:52:11

Can you not bribe dh some way or tell him he can go back to bed for as long as he wants after nipping to the shops?

Do you not have a little local shop in walking distance?

Or just get up and make as much noise as you possibly can until dh gets the message grin

Pickles77 Sat 17-Nov-12 07:52:21

Don't just buy one test wink

Agree with pickles get 10four grin

MustafaCake Sat 17-Nov-12 07:54:07

Right Mr Pondlily

Get your arse out of bed, get to the shop and buy PG test.

RIGHT NOW!

All of Mumsnet (and your wife) are waiting!

RubyrooUK Sat 17-Nov-12 07:56:19

Hope you get the result you want OP. smile

My first Live POAS thread... How exciting!

Everything crossed for you OP!

Newtothisstuff Sat 17-Nov-12 08:02:53

I love a good POAS thread.. Come on Mr P get upppppppppp.. If you live near me ill go get you one hahagrin

JackThePumpkinKing Sat 17-Nov-12 08:06:44

Hurry uuuuuup grin

Willabywallaby Sat 17-Nov-12 08:08:18

When I told DH I was pregnant he kissed me, said that's nice and went back to his DIY, men just aren't the same creatures. But yours DIFINATELY NEEDS TO GET HIS ARSE OUT OF BED!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 08:09:00

HE'S HAVING HIS TEA AND TOAST grin hmm

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 08:10:02

Well at least he's up!!! How's he being?

Is the shop far away?

emeraldgirl1 Sat 17-Nov-12 08:11:38

God you are more zen than I am. I would be throwing a major tantrum at DH right now!!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 08:12:43

He's fine iloveholidays when he came into the kitchen I apologised for being so emotional, want to start today well, so swallowed it down.

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 08:15:59

That's good, I bet he's just finding it hard to believe and he maybe not wanting to come across excited so not to build your hopes up. My DP would do that, always shrugged me off until he saw a positive test as he said if he showed any excitement it would make me more excited and he was right.

Best of luck... I've got everything crossed for you.

Come on mr p. too exciting!!

phantomhairpuller Sat 17-Nov-12 08:19:12

Good luck OP, marking place to check back later! Hope you get the result you're looking for grin

OrangeLily Sat 17-Nov-12 08:20:51

Tea and toast?? hmm

At least if you are pregnant he's going to have to be super nice to you for the next 9 months

Mama1980 Sat 17-Nov-12 08:21:13

Good luck just marking my place to check back later

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 08:23:24

This is some pressure to perform grin

JaquelineHyde Sat 17-Nov-12 08:24:34

Tick tock tick tock...he must have finished by now, kick him out of the door.

On a more pratical note like a few others have said make sure he gets a few tests and make sure he buys something like chocolate or whatever you like so that if for some reason you don't get the result you want at least you have some form of comfort near by.

SucksToBeMe Sat 17-Nov-12 08:24:36

Good luck!

SoulTrain Sat 17-Nov-12 08:26:07

When is he leaving? Where's the shop? Are you going with him? How do you feel about doing it in the loo at the supermarket?

FairiesWearPoppies Sat 17-Nov-12 08:26:08

Shamelessly marking place <like a nosey bitch>

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 08:26:40

Is that how it works Orange? I've just had my third and DP has always just told me to get on with it smile. Think I moan too much smile

Ooh exciting!!

When I got my BFP, DH still went and had the sperm test we had booked for that day (we were due to start fertility investigations)!! He didn't really believe it for at least a week!

cogitosum Sat 17-Nov-12 08:27:17

Good luck! I'm about 5-6 weeks so if it's + we'll be due around the same time smile we can start a July antenatal thread!

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sat 17-Nov-12 08:27:56

Oh he is obviously trying not to get his hopes up.

Still annoying!

OrangeLily Sat 17-Nov-12 08:31:04

Iloveholidays..... I was trying to be positive for her! Head stuck in clouds!

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 08:33:12

Orange... It did make me giggle!!!! I think I play the sympathy card a bit too much when pregnant so can't really blame DP. I prefer "I'm ill and pregnant" line rather than "I'm not ill I'm pregnant" one smile

aufaniae Sat 17-Nov-12 08:34:11

Ooh, exciting! Keeping my fingers crossed for you smile

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 08:34:30

He's having an apple now

FairiesWearPoppies Sat 17-Nov-12 08:41:01

pond shall I send my dp round. Both times it was him who told me I was pregnant and poas confirmed it! He has an in-built pregnancy radar wink

cat Sat 17-Nov-12 08:48:17

Don't buy the digital ones - lots of people on here don't think they're that accurate. Get the cheaper First Response ones.........

cat Sat 17-Nov-12 08:49:49

I want to POAS now and there's no chance whatsoever I might be pregnant (or want to be!)

grin

I actually have one in my cupboard OP. Do you live near me? Look out of the window - I'll stand in the road and wave. I've got a red dressing gown on.

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 08:51:55

He's finished his breakfast, have a pic of the first response box ready to show him..............

UnderwaterBasketWeaving Sat 17-Nov-12 08:52:38

I've got 12 out of date in my cupboard. Shall we all join in, in support?!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 08:53:14

blowing his nose, singing to the dog..............

emeraldgirl1 Sat 17-Nov-12 08:53:25

Oh yes definitely second the First Response idea. Digital ones expensive and I don't know if they are as reliable

ScrambledSmegs Sat 17-Nov-12 08:56:00

Is he deliberately try to wind MN you up?

Good luck!

cbeebiesatemybrain Sat 17-Nov-12 08:56:13

Good luck! Don't waste money on expensive tests, own brand are just as good and iirc clearblue digital are not very sensitive so more likely to give you a false negative.

HavingALittleFaithBaby Sat 17-Nov-12 08:57:47

Oooh exciting <joins in> Yes I got my BFP on a First response and I always pee'd into a jar because it deceased the risk of spoiling the test by peeing in the wrong place (wasted a clear blue doing that!). I hope it's positive! smile

PeachTown Sat 17-Nov-12 08:58:09

Cheap supermarket ones are very sensitive and give a good clear line IME. Tell him to get a box of each. What a great thread to wake up to. Good luck OP!

iloveholidays Sat 17-Nov-12 08:58:09

Awww Pond, you are being very patient although I do think DH is probably being so chilled for your benefit even though its just more stressful for you IYKWIM.

Has he left the house yet?

yellowsubmarine53 Sat 17-Nov-12 08:58:59

For why can you not go to the shops yourself, OP?

The nation demands it, surely?

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 08:58:59

ScrambledSmegs

He's a joker, I'm used to it we've been together 18 years, this relationship requires oooooooodles of patience smile

Fenton Sat 17-Nov-12 09:02:18

grin at singing to the dog.

<waits>

cat Sat 17-Nov-12 09:03:01

yellow - OP can't drive.

OP - haven't you got a bike? A skateboard?

TheCountessOlenska Sat 17-Nov-12 09:05:00

Marking my place - love a POAS thread!

FairiesWearPoppies Sat 17-Nov-12 09:05:17

Skateboard grin

Does he know we all on tender hooks here?!!!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 09:07:42

He's out of the door........

Even I nearly lost it with him

sausagewallet Sat 17-Nov-12 09:08:15

I'm normally a lurker but just wanted to say good luck OP! and hurry up OPs DH

llamallama Sat 17-Nov-12 09:09:44

Oh oh oh a live poas thread!! How exciting!

lotsofcheese Sat 17-Nov-12 09:11:01

I hope he's buying a twin pack - you might want to test more than once - or god forbid, mess up the 1st one!

chimchar Sat 17-Nov-12 09:11:24

Lovely thread. I really hope you get your positive pond!

how long will your dh be? I can't stand the suspense!!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 09:12:08

He has been given instruction to buy 4, two cheapy supermarket ones and 2 first response

ScrambledSmegs Sat 17-Nov-12 09:12:24

I would have killed him by now. You have the patience of a saint, OP smile

MustafaCake Sat 17-Nov-12 09:12:49

Dear God woman, I'll go and get you a PG test!!!!

The nation demands a result!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 09:14:47

Y'know even if it's negative I still think I am, my boobs are still killing me, they have been for over a week and I'm sure the taste is getting worse.

ShipwreckedAndComatose Sat 17-Nov-12 09:16:15

Shameless marking of place on thread. grin

Good luck op

Loup23 Sat 17-Nov-12 09:17:52

Ooo checking in for update , how exciting grin

whatsinthebagangelos Sat 17-Nov-12 09:18:04

Hurry up pond's DH!!!!

Oooohh! Just read all of this! GOOD LUCK OP!

emeraldgirl1 Sat 17-Nov-12 09:20:55

Well, this is frustrating. I can get nothing on my to-do list done until the test is done. So no housework, laundry, ironing or phoning my mother for me this morning. What a shame. I'll just have to sit here with a coffee and a muffin waiting for an update. grin

Oooo good luck smile

Heavywheezing Sat 17-Nov-12 09:25:25

I need to go out soon!

I hope you get a positive test, July is a lovely month to have a baby!

I had the metal taste, like sucking a penny.

SoulTrain Sat 17-Nov-12 09:28:52

grin At cat's comment.

WHAT DO WE WANT? Pondlily's DH to hurry the eff up! When do we want it? NOW!

<I'm wringing my hands and floor pacing in nervous anticipation>

FairiesWearPoppies Sat 17-Nov-12 09:30:03

July is a great month. I was born in July all the best people are wink

FairiesWearPoppies Sat 17-Nov-12 09:30:45

This is so tense! Feel like I'm the one poas!

Dillydollydaydream Sat 17-Nov-12 09:38:31

Eek. How exciting. Fingers crossed!

UnderwaterBasketWeaving Sat 17-Nov-12 09:38:51

He's buying 4?!

Well that just guarantees a positive on the first one (which is why I have twelve hanging around!)

Lepreporn Sat 17-Nov-12 09:39:37

Good luck. I'm another one who just knew both times I was pregnant. Tests were negative but I still just knew !!!

MrsChestyLaRue Sat 17-Nov-12 09:41:18

I also asked DH to get a test this morning, came home from nightshift without one and is off to bed. I too have symptoms, sore boobs, nausea etc but have mirena coil.

Will just need to get dds dressed and take them and get one for tomorrow!

So for now I'm living through you op!

Bet he comes back with the papers, some deals the supermarket was doing, something nice he fancied for dinner!

In and out mr pond lily!!

milkymocha Sat 17-Nov-12 09:44:03

Hurry up Mr Pondlily!!
Men angry

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 09:44:27

Cheapy tesco and first response both negative. What the hell are the symptoms about then? I thought I was just from the boobs and weird fellings but then the metalic taste thing.

I'm definately not imagining any of those things

Sorry MN. sad

MrsWildermac Sat 17-Nov-12 09:44:33

How exciting OP...sore boobs were my only symptom and I got BFP two weeks ago!

Hope you come and join us on the July thread smile

FairiesWearPoppies Sat 17-Nov-12 09:46:14

Give it couple days and test again. X

TwinkleReturns Sat 17-Nov-12 09:47:18

OP false negatives happen. I knew I was and tested negative even after Id missed my period ... 2 weeks later I tried again and it was positive. Sometimes just takes a while for hormone levels to pick up. Keep eye on the symptoms.

MrsWildermac Sat 17-Nov-12 09:48:20

Yes...test again in a couple of days...you're not out until the fat lady sings!

Hope we see you on the July thread yet smile

Alibabaandthe40nappies Sat 17-Nov-12 09:48:28

Test again in a few days. ((hugs))

Lepreporn Sat 17-Nov-12 09:50:13

Test again in a few days. Even dr surgery test said negative. While I was outside in the loo puking grin
Dr said I had a tummy bug. Nine months later I had dd.

BloominMarvellous Sat 17-Nov-12 09:52:55

I am holding off testing at the moment for the fear of getting a negative then the waiting and testing a million times I am four days late and really don't want to get my hopes up! the urge to poas is rediculous though

I hope you aren't too disappointed and I hope you get a positive next time. Hopefully by then we will both be celebrating smile

ChicMama25 Sat 17-Nov-12 09:53:58

I got negatives till I was 6 weeks pg! Knew I was though x good luck

Flojo1979 Sat 17-Nov-12 09:59:51

I had negative POAS but if it hasn't happened in all these yrs then I'm guessing the symptoms are more PMT based than pregnancy.
But if there's no sign of AF in a Fe days then def do another

aufaniae Sat 17-Nov-12 10:06:34

Pregnancy tests measure the level of a certain hormone in your wee. You might not be pregnant, but you might be and it's just too early.

False negatives are very common. I had a negative when I felt pregnant. A week later I got a positive.

Just got to wait and see if AF comes or do more tests. Sorry I know it sucks!

Do you mind if I ask, have you ever sought fertility advice from via your GP? (It seems obvious you'd be happy to be pregnant!)

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 10:24:13

Never persued it no, thought it might happen. I've just never let my guard down and had accepted by now that it probably wouldn't.

Feel like a total fool now. My mouth still tastes like metal and did before i knew that was a symptom of pregnancy, can't all be in my head if I didn't know. Can it?

MustafaCake Sat 17-Nov-12 10:28:07

Sorry you didn't get the result you wanted.

Do test again in a few days/week. With DS1 I tested positive straight away but with DS2 I got negative tests for quite a while after my AF was due.

cat Sat 17-Nov-12 10:30:10

Soory it wasn't positive.

But as everyone says - try again in a few days

x

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda Sat 17-Nov-12 10:36:35

OP I was in a similar situation to you. Gave up hoping as I got older, finally accepted there would be no baby when I hit 40. Then I felt rough for weeks, seriously bad virus (hmm). Put off testing until MN insisted for the collective sanity. Still can't quite believe it was positive (I was 11 weeks pregnant by that point) despite having a scan and now feeling movement. I'm going to be like 'where did that come from?' when I finally deliver.

Don't give up hoping.

NoWayNoHow Sat 17-Nov-12 11:01:12

Don't give up hope, OP, and certainly don't feel foolish - if you are pregnant (and you have EXACTLY the same symptoms as I did) then by all accounts it's very early days, and your hormone levels may not be sufficient to register yet. Test again in a few mire days.

JackThePumpkinKing Sat 17-Nov-12 11:17:48

Did you use first morning urine?

I had at least half a dozen negative tests but I KNEW I was pregnant. Was a week late before I got a positive. It was the most disheartening week but DS2 is now 8 weeks old & gorgeous!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 11:18:22

Now I have brown blood when i wipe, a tiny bit. Brown like at the end of a period???

leelteloo Sat 17-Nov-12 11:18:50

Like I said I had two negatives and I was pg, it was just too early. Try again in a week if your period has not come. Stay off the fags and booze just incase wink

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 11:20:04

I did use first morning wee jack but I hardly slept.

SummerRain Sat 17-Nov-12 11:27:24

I never poas with dd as I had so many pregnant symptoms I was certain I was. But the gp test came up negative. He sent me on to the hospital (missing period and severe vomiting suggested if I wasn't pregnant I was definitely unwell) and urine tests, blood tests and physical examinations were done. I was told I wasn't pregnant, that I may have been but had probably miscarried. I was sent for a scan to confirm this.

I was almost 10 weeks pregnant with dd.

It can happen, it happened to my mother too and the only reason my pregnancy was confirmed was because the sonographer suggested a trans vaginal scan as her sister had exactly the same thing happen to her.

Some of us just aren't great at making hormones, which wouldn't be surprising given your fertility problems.

JessieEssex Sat 17-Nov-12 11:30:18

I had a negative test on the first day of missed period, OP, and I'm now 20 weeks pregnant! Try again in a few days (which will feel like years...)

itsnotmymainmainpresent Sat 17-Nov-12 11:32:51

Sorry I posted and had to go to bed last night.

Fingers crossed it was a false negative. You've got the 2 extra tests to do in a week or so if your period doesn't come.

Good luck.

ScrambledSmegs Sat 17-Nov-12 11:37:09

Don't feel silly, please. If nothing changes (and the brown blood could be nothing, implantation bleeding, spotting etc) then test again in a few more days.

FWIW, I thought I might be pregnant in February this year (nausea, sore boobs, funny taste in mouth). I got my period and was devastated sad. I had an HSG (internal exam using dye and x-ray) at the fertility clinic booked for early March, so took a pregnancy test anyway to be on the safe side. Negative, as I expected. Later that month I got a BFP (positive test) and was absolutely over the moon grin. Another post-HSG success, yay! There the story should end...

Except, when I went for my 7 week scan - customary when you've been referred to the fertility clinic - instead of a flickering heartbeat we saw a baby! Waving! Turned out I had been pregnant in February after all. Obviously one very tough baby, to make it through my 'period' and the HSG.

I'm due next week grin

Conflugenglugen Sat 17-Nov-12 12:05:18

You can still bleed when you're pregnant at this stage, OP: implantation bleeding. Fingers crossed for you.

<delurks>

does your period normally start with brown blood? If not it could well be implantation bleeding. I had this and got a faint positive a couple of days later.

Good luck!

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 13:08:18

No, usually light bleeding but definitely red at the start of my period.

milkymocha Sat 17-Nov-12 13:12:11

I wouldnt give up hope, let us know how this story progresses please Lily, i know you might feel dishearted now but have faith in mother nature smile

TerrorNotSoFrightened Sat 17-Nov-12 13:21:08

I had this brown blood when pg, just when my period would have been due.
Also had two negative tests.

Stacks Sat 17-Nov-12 13:22:58

Pondlily sometimes a negative test will have a faint line on the next day, which can be a sign of a faint positive due to too little of the pregnancy hormone.
I had invisible faint lines for a couple of days before getting a very faint line on a test within the stated time. Tested every day for a couple of weeks after, and watched that little line get darker and darker.
Try not to worry about any light bleeding. Your body can get implantation bleeding, or a 'fake' light period while still pregnant.

Best of luck to you. Keeping my gingers crossed.

Pondlily Sat 17-Nov-12 16:09:24

Red blood now after cramping this afternoon (never get cramping with a normal period) I know was pregnant. So many changes and by 39 you really know your normal body and rhythms.

I let myself go there this morning and was so happy. I feel stupid now. And really, really sad.

Dillydollydaydream Sat 17-Nov-12 16:12:01

I'm sorry to read your update. You must be so disappointed. Have a nice glass of wine wine and some chocolate.

yellowsubmarine53 Sat 17-Nov-12 17:37:25

Oh, I'm sorry. How sad for you - we were all hoping that you'd have good news.

Take care.

MustafaCake Sat 17-Nov-12 17:46:06

I'm really sorry Pondlily, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you can be pregnant again very soon.

Is there anything your GP or specialists can do to help you? Have you had any investigations or tests?

I'm really sorry OP sad

chimchar Sat 17-Nov-12 18:41:20

Oh, pond...I'm so sorry to read your update.

Be kind to yourself now. X
