what to dress a newborn in at night in this heat?

Help! My son is 3 weeks old and i have no idea what to dress him in at night time in these high temperatures. It is 25 in our bedroom at 11pm and I know there is a real risk of babies overheating but i also want to be sure he is wearing enough as he is small at only 6lbs.

Does anyone have any advice on what he should be wearing at night time. Before the heatwave struck and it was a lovely 18-20 degrees I was using a vest and a v fine merino wool night gown and sleeping bag set (from merinokids.com) but now it is warmer i am a bit flummoxed

Any advice from those with children would be really welcome

Nappy and sleepsuit at those temps. Cover with a sheet later in the night if it cools off.

Just a vest and nappy I would suggest, no sleeping bag. Do you have a fan on in the room? Not blowing onto the baby but certainly blowing around the room.

Vest and nappy, and a light sheet or cellular blanket if it gets cooler in the night.

My 16month baby is wearing a vest and is in a light sleeping bag.

nappy and vest. If he feels cool you can always put a sheet or blanket over him.

Just keep feeling his tum frequently to check he's not to hot or cold. and adjust the bedding
Dont use the sleeping bag though.

ds2 was born in a hot august and I managed not to cook him then, but was a bit paranoid over him.

My DS was under 6lbs at birth, and when it was hot like it is now I just left him in a vest and nappy. He seemed to react worse to being hot than being underdressed. You can always put something over him later if it cools, as Lionstar suggested.

Thank you everyone. I was worried that he would be too cold in just a nappy and vest or sleep suit so it is good to be reassured that that is perfectly OK.

As it is all a bit new to us we are probably being over cautious and completely paranoid that we are doing the wrong thing!

DC2 was born in 2006 and it was really hot. She liked being wrapped up so I cut up a really big thin soft t shirt and swaddled her in that. I think grobag do something now like that. DC3 due in July won't be getting any posh grobag swaddles as I found the bits of t shirt in the bag with the moses basket bedding.

Mine is in nappy and 0.5 tog grobag. Nappy and vest would be fine too.

There was a heatwave just after DS was born and we used to have him in just a nappy and vest all the time. I used to swaddle him in just a muslin for daytime naps, and then use a single layer cellular blanket at night.

Personally, I would say a nappy, sleep suit and light blanket. It does cool down considerably during the night.
