Just drank small (mixer) can of coke....now worried!

I know that you are not supposed to drink sugary, fizzy drinks as they are bad for you, but they really help with the nausea, so I let myself.

However, I just bought a pack of the little mixer cans of coke (I can never drink a full can) and now I am worried I will harm the baby by drinking them. I don't drink coffee and only ever have decaf tea (although not at the mo as it makes me feel yuck), don't smoke, no alcohol and have gone off chocolate.

My caffeine intake is very small, but if I drink one or two of these mini cans of coke a day, would I be doing any major harm? I plan to stop with all the crap food once the nausea eases obviously, but for now it gets me through the day.

Don't be so ridiculous.

Not do any harm at all. I dont drink tea or coffee and lived on fizzy drinks with all four and it didnt do any harm

ruddy pregnancy, so much to worry about. one or two cans of coke a day is not something to trouble yourself over, especially if it helps the nausea.

you'll have gone off it by next month anyway

DD came out with a Coca Cola logo down her side. Well, not quite but nearly. I did swap to caffeine free after a while but really, a normal can of coke a day is not going to do any harm.

All I could keep down was coke with my first (full caffeine, full sugar) - he's 14 now and absoutely fine.

Coca cola is my saviour - without a can (a whole can) a day, I am a knackered, nauseous wreck.

Oh cripes, another casualty of the 'healthy eating' message. Drink the Coke and forget about it.

I really wouldn't worry about it.

The government guidelines are not to have more than 200mg of caffeine a day.

This is from the governement website:

The amount of caffeine in food and drink will vary, but as a guide each of these contain roughly 200mg or less of caffeine:

2 mugs of instant coffee (100mg each)
1 mug of filter coffee (140mg each)
2 mugs of tea (75mg each)
5 cans of cola (up to 40mg each)
2 cans of 'energy' drink (up to 80mg each)
4 (50g) bars of plain chocolate (up to 50 mg each). Caffeine in milk chocolate is about half that of plain chocolate

www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/pregnancy/whenyrpregnant/

It says you can have up to 5 cans of coke. Surely that means about 10 of the little ones?!

Chill out and enjoy the coke if it helps you with your nausea.

My post lunch treat most days was a can of pepsi and a twix! I was fine, DS is fine.

A small can of Coke? It wouldn't even register on most people's caffeinemeters.

Sweet Jesus!

Sorry OP, that isn't aimed at you (especially as I was so rude to you on your other thread ), but rather at all the bloody govt guidelines that have brainwashed women into thinking that perfectly normal foods are somehow poisonous once they are walking incubators . . .!

Well, I am not a healthy eater at the moment I can tell you (Rice Krispie caramel bar for brek, all I can face first thing). The only reason I worried is I caught sight of an article on another site that said taking in too much caffeine can slow your babies growth rate.

I am usually fairly laid back about all this stuff, but the article put my mind into overdrive. I'm sure it's just the bloody hormones, I am worrying about all sorts of stupid things, not helped by the fact that my shite diet is putting weight on me (not that I was skinny to begin with). Roll on 2nd trimester!!!

Thanks for the reassurances, it is much appreciated.

no you will be fine. It was one of the few things that I could keep down too and at least it provides some energy as sugar. I need it now some days too if I haven't managed to sleep much.

You'll be fine and so will the baby .
It's such a minefield this "what not to eat" lark isn't it? Bad enough without feeling rotten!

chill out love. You'll be fine.

I am chilling out now, although pretty sure all the sugar i'm consuming is going to kill my teeth. I haven't been to the dentist for about 3 years and judging from some twinges i'm getting when chewing hard foods, I need a filling replacing.

Bummer!

It used to be my treat of choice when I was pregnant. I don't drink much cola but just fancied it whenever I had tapas (about once a week).

At least the dentist is free now that you're pregnant, Rocklover!

Christ on a bike - your baby will be born with 3 heads. I hope you've learned your lesson.

God, someone tried to stop me drinking my uber strength black coffee when I was 7 months pregnant with DD2 (DD1 was 18 months), I nearly killed them.
