Hi,

Title says it all, got up at 3am to go to the loo and there was brown spotting on wiping. It is still here this morning, although none has transferred to the pad I'm wearing. Not sure whether to go to the docs or just monitor and contact them if it gets worse. Help!

I had this, and was told just to contact them if it became painful or bright red, I have heard this is very common at exactly that time too, so don't worry too much!!

Yes, it does seem to be very common. Am so sorry you're having this stress, but as long as it remains as brown spotting it may simply be 'old' blood. Bright red plus clots is more serious.

Hope it clears up for you soon.

Thank you both. Just spoken to the out of hoyrs gp and he was lovely, mainly wanted to make sure I wasn't at risk from an ectopic.

Basically all I can do is wait it out and see what happens. He did say to contact my GP on Monday and ask them to arrange for an early scan at the EPU, although I am slightly wary of those as they can be inconclusive at times.

Now I'm bloody sat here feeling every twinge and constantly running to the the loo to knicker check, it's rubbish!

I am in the same boat this morning. I woke up to it too. Though I am only 5 weeks, resigned myself to the fact its over, have a scan booked for friday already due to history of 7 mc's but i am cramping and expecting it to get a lot worse today.

Fingers crossed for you x

I'm so sorry to hear that Julez, I hope that the worst doesn't happen for you. Have the drs investigated why you keep miscarrying? I hope things improve for you.

Try not to worry. I had lots and lots of odd coloured discharge, and some pink and watery red spots too, up until 12w 3d. Then it just stopped. Touch wood, theres been nothing weird since (now 17w 3d).

I noticed that the worst times of it would have roughly coincided with periods - ie something like 4w, then 7w5d then 12w. so I guess it was still the fluctuating hormones.

I panicked every time I saw it, it's so worrying. But hopefully this can give you some hope.

Thanks vmcd. It's still there on wiping and my tummy feels a little tender, although I am not having any significant kind of cramping. Just hoping it tails off soon.

yes, just take it easy and try to relax. Oh, and drink LOADS of water - i.e. at least 2 litres of WATER a day.

Had brown spotting with all my pgs. With this one, the third, had brown spotting, then a bright red bleed and cramping in the early weeks.... dc is due next month. Apparently it's common round the time when your period would be due or could be caused by infection (the latter true in my case) See your gp after the weekend and ask them to refer you for an early scan since you are far enough along and to wait until 12 weeks and the first scan is too long. Most EPUs won't see you unless you have the GP paperwork.

Thanks for all the kind words and advice. It doesn't help that I feel vile (my pregnancy nausea is evil today, although that's good I suppose). Just been grocery shopping and it took all of my effort and will not to throw up. I am going to rest for the remainder of the day though.

Why the 2 litres of water vmcd? Does it help?

I had a little bit of spotting too at 10 and 12 weeks. Since this is my 2nd pregancy and never had anything like it in my first, I was really worried, and my GP transferred me to my EPU who did a scan (thats when I found out I was having twins!). The doctor said it is very common, and mostly means there is nothing to worry about. See if you can get an early scan on Monday, just to put your mind at rest. The staff at my EPU were so lovely, and when I asked what to do if it happened again, the doctor said they would scan me as often as I liked.
Try not to worry and have a quiet weekend- that might also make the nausea a little more bearable.

yes, nausea is good. Well, the evidence is that lots of water is needed to produce and protect the placenta and amniotic fluid. If you're not getting enough, they could become dehydrated too, and not sdo their work properly. In this heat too, you need it even more.

The problem is, a lot of drinks are not actually counted as "drinks" in pg, cos they have so much caffeine or sugar or whatever in them, so drinking pure water is the only way to know for sure that you have had enough hydration.

If you are not having a text-book pregnancy (ie any amount of spotting, for example), you just have to make sure you are properly hydrated. It can only do good.

Just dont start drinking 8 litres or whatever - even too much water can do you harm...!

My MW told me to buy 2 litre bottles of water, and drink one throughout the day, so that I knew for sure I had had the correct amount each day.
Basically, I made sure I drank that amount of pure water, and I also drank juice and milk at other times.

Hi Rockbird.

How are you doing now? Are you a bit calmer?

Sorry for the delay, after posting before the sickness hit and i went to lie down and fell asleep. I have had no more spotting today fingers crossed thats the end of it now.

With DS2 I did bleed uite heavily from week 5 right through till week 20. It was a scary time but hes 3yo now and refusing to go to bed!

Thinking of you x

My spotting has also stopped, so hoping it is finished now. I feel utterly awful today sickness wise and want to crawl into a corner, but we are having family round to dinner today.

Have to contact my gp to get an early scan organised, but I am not sure where the nearest EPU is. I live in south Devon (just moved) and the prospect of driving miles to a hospital makes me feel green. Partner can't drive and I certainly don't want to go via taxi or public transport. This is so pants!

Afternoon!

Glad spotting has sotpped, I have had some more this morning, little bit more than before but it has stopped also, I have been vomiting all day. Will see how I am in the morning, if theres anymore, I will ring my EPU if not I have an early scan booked for friday anyway.

Good luck with your GP tomorrow, sure he will be able to tell you where the nearest one is. My nearest hospital is poo so I travel 35/40 miles to a better one x

Hi, sorry to hear you're poorly Julez, if it's any consolation I have had an upset tummy of the other variety this afternoon and feel totally bleugh.

If I still feel awful tomorrow I may opt for an appt Tues/Wed. Nothing is going to change between now and then if the news isn't good I suppose. Hope you feel better soon. x

Fed up, still intermittent light brown spotting, however no red bleeding and no major cramps. I don't understand what's going on and I'm getting really stressed.

I am calling the dr as soon as I have dropped dd off at school. The frustrating thing is I know that if I have an early scan and everything seems fine, that doesn't necessarily mean that it will stay that way. I am not coping very this morning and just wish all this would stop.

You poor thing Rocklover! Really stressful, but VERY GOOD NEWS that there's no red blood or cramps.

However I wouldn't be too dismissive of news from an early scan. You would be 8 wks today, isn't that right? So a scan now would give a very good indication of how your pregnancy is progressing.

best of luck, I'd definitely push for a scan now. The waiting and uncertainty must be driving you mad!

Thanks Olivia. Will I need an internal scan or will it be external now? Yes I am 8 weeks today.

I'm sorry you're going through this. I've been there myself twice - once good outcome, once bad - and the waiting game is murder. I don't know what to suggest, I know what you mean re an early scan, but it might be a help to know you still have a reason to have hope, rather than not knowing, and feeling as low as you are at the moment? Fingers crossed.

Dr is referring me to EPU in Torquay, will have an appt either today or tomorrow. He will call back as soon as he knows.

Starting to feel rather panicky now, already have horrid constant pregnancy nausea, the stress is making it worse and has upset my tummy. Completely fed up.

Scan booked for tomorrow at 11.20am. Dr seems to think I will need an external and internal scan, is that usual?

Still worried obviously, but at least i'll know one way or the other by lunch time tomorrow.

They may try to scan you externally first, and if they can't see enough will use the 'dildocam' (honestly not any way as bad as you might imagine).

I had a scan last weks, at 8wks +1, and sonographer was able to see everything using abdominal scanner. However she said that was a brand new machine, and prior to this I would always have had internal scans at 8wk stage.

best of luck for tomorrow, I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
