What is hesitant labour?

A guy I work with got 'the call' from his wife to go home a few hours ago (she was due on the 13th). We've just heard that it was a false alarm and it was a 'hesitant labour'. What is that? I've googled around a bit but can't really find anything on it! Thanks!

I think it probably means a slow burning labour, or one that's a bit stop/start?

Thanks Abi. That would make sense. I think they were told it would probably happen this weekend sometime - maybe tomorrow for Fathers Day!!
