Size at 7.5 week scan - longshot query!

I realize most people don't have a scan at 7.5 weeks so are unlikely to know much about this, but I did (it's an IVF baby) and my bean was 12.5mm. The scan was at 7 weeks and 4 days, but on all the web sites about the development of the foetus etc. 12.5mm seems to be a typical length for 6 weeks, with 7+ weeks much longer, so I'm hoping mine isn't too tiny. The heart was beating, so I'm not panicking, but just on the offchance anyone happens to have had a similar experience and knows whether this is within 'normal' range or not. Thanks!

I had a scan at 7 weeks - baby measured 6mm - she is curently sleeping on my lap. The margin of error at this stage is huge and dating by size is very inaccurate until 9 weeks according to my consultant, so scans at this stage are only to confirm live pregnancies.

I know what day I conceived. I had two early scans. Scans confirmed my dates.

7 weeks and 4 days- 11mm
7 weeks and 6 days- 13mm

DD is a perfectly happy and healthy 3yr old.

Congratulations.

Hi Levi - we had a scan at 8 weeks and DD was 12mm I think.

Just googled it and Babycentre are saying 1cm at 7 weeks here: [http://www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/fetaldevelopment/07weeks/]

but to be honest, they are averages so will vary from person to person.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

Congratulations. I am having an IVF baby too. As far as I can remember at 7 weeks mine was 10mm.

Since then my due date has been brought forward as a recent 12 week scan said I was 13 +5 which is totally incorrect as I know from the date of egg collection that this is impossible, so kind of proof that the scans aren't always accurate and babies grow at different rates.

Again, congratulations on your success with IVF. It's such a wonderful thing isn't it

Thanks so much, folks - wow, what a mine of information! That's really reassuring - the lesson is not to try and Google things indiscriminately! As some of you say, there is obviously huge variance at this point so it's nothing to worry about. I think I'll be paranoid about everything until 12 weeks (and beyond, no doubt!) - still seems a long way off.

Hi Dueling! I remember you from the AC thread way back - really glad things worked out for you, that's great news. I am delighted about the IVF working (so far at least) - I've been so lucky (and haven't even got morning sickness other than the most fleeting of feelings - but I'm sure people will want to kill me so I'll shut up now!).

I did have a scan at 6 weeks but I don;t have the scan sheet with me at the moment as I'm at work.

I'm sure it's normal.

I really just wanted to say congratulations to you all after your IVF!! Miracle babies

I've luckily never needed it but there are people close to me that have and its truly transformed their lives - they're just so different (good different).

Anyhow...I'm waffling

Good Luck to you all

CP3 33weeks today

I had a scan at about 6.5 weeks and then another one at 9 weeks. At the second scan the sonographer told me the baby was only measuring 7+4 instead of 9 and I was really freaking out.

Seems to have caught up now - bump huge, baby kicking away, and have heard from afriend who is an obstetrician that early pregnancy scans can show really varied results depending on whether they are internal/external, the position the baby is in etc... all that kind of stuff. So only thing I can say is not to obsess too much about early measurements...

And congrats!!

Just to add my scan measurements as follows...

6 weeks - 2.9mm
7 weeks - 7.0mm
8 weeks - 15.8mm

DS is now 5 weeks old!!

I think your measurements sound fine.

Good luck

LeviStubbsTears,

Congrats! You must be delighted.

I had a scan at 7+2 and CRL was 11mm. I forget the average measurements I found when googling then (it was all of a week ago!) but I was relieved that I seem to be about right, and you are too.

I was panicking as I had slight bleeding at 5 weeks and, whilst still not taking anything for granted, was very relieved to see the heartbeat at the 7+2 scan. Risk of miscarriage goes down a lot after the heartbeat is heard.

Fingers crossed for you i wish you a very happy and healthy pregnancy!

Congratulations!!! You've got a baby beating heart - you're doing really well!! My DS wasn't IVF but at 7 weeks he looked more like 5 weeks but he was born weighing 8lb 15oz at 39+6 ... so try to enjoy the fact you've got a long way already Wink

@oopsandbabycoconut I know this thread is mega old but I do feel better after reading the comments on here. Yours in particular. I was 7 weeks & 3 days yesterday and went to the clinic for my scan (After IUI) but they said my baby is 6mm (with heartbeat) and to 'prepare myself'. I've been so worried and looking for reassurance. I'm glad you had a positive outcome. Hope it'll be the same for us x

Hi! I’m 7+1 and I’ve just had an early scan after ICSI and been told baby is 6mm with heartbeat and to be prepared. It’s scary and worrying but I’m trying to be positive and concentrate on our 3year old and the fact that we have a wee one with a strong heartbeat that we’ve seen today. I hope you had a positive outcome. Reading these comments has helped make me feel better Smile
