Self-certing when pregnant - advice please

Just looking to find out if this is normal.

I went to see Doctor today as the pain in my pelvic bone is making it hard for me to walk.

He gave me painkillers and advised me to self-cert this week and then if I was still in pain next week to phone him and he would sign me off for longer.

Is this what Doctors normally do? Given the pain I was clearly in I thought he would just sign me off.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, you don't need to be signed off by a GP until you have been off for more than a week (you can self-certify for up to one week) so yes, that's fine.

(Just make sure you put "pregnancy-related condition" on your HR forms then your absence can't be counted for things like redundancy situations.)

Hope you get better soon.

Thanks Jacksmybaby. In the current economic climate it is potential redundancy situations I'm aiming to protect myself against.

It shouldn't make any difference for redundancy purposes whether the absence is self-certified or doctor's note.

(p.s. random topic change - I ordered the seraphine maxi dress you recommended on my thread the other day and it arrived today - very nice so thanks for the recommendation!)

Actually, your thread inspired me to wear it on Friday. Received lots of lovely comments. Really cheered me up.

Just be careful that they they don't enforce you begin maternity leave if you are off for too long - this is my company policy. I guess it depends how many weeks you are.
Might be worth asking them to assist in transport? Parking closer or something like that (mine wouldn't tho!)

They can't start your maternity leave before 36 weeks but if you are off sick at that point ML kicks in automatically.
