Hi. I am nearly 27 wks pregnant. I got woke up last night to fluid coming out of me. It wasn't a gush. It happened twice. I went to the toilet and checked my underwear. It was colourless and didn't smell of urine. I went to change my underwear and when I stood up I dripped on the floor. Then when I pulled my pants up. It seeped out again.

When I woke up this morning I checked my underwear I took off in the bathroom and it is still soaking wet. My underwear I have on now was dry when i woke up but while I have been sat here typing I have seeped again. This is my 4th pregnancy. My 1st my waters was a gush and the other 2 had to have waters broken. I don't feel great this morning. I keep getting backache. Trouble is I have MS and I get backache with that. Though I just don't feel right today.

Any advice please. Will ring hospital in a bit. When I have got someone here to sit with kids and take me over if needed.

ring hospital as soon as you can.

If it's colourless, seeping out adn doesn't smell of wee it could be waters.

You could probably ring them now for advice even if you can't go in till later. If it would help.

Sounds like it could be waters to me too, definitely ring your midwife/hospital to get checked out.

You need to ring them now. Don't wait. They may need to give you something to stop the labour, if it is your waters.

ditto - ring and go in!

Does it feel like a gush when you have a heavy period? thats what mine felt like.

Hope you managed to go in. Mine went at 22 weeks with ds2 and it leaked, wasn't a gush at all. Was a scary time.

I went in and was contracting. I have had steriods and a day bed rest. Was feeling very ill by the time I went in. Was put on a monitor and her heart rate reached 200. I had protein, keytones and glucose in my urine. I'm home now and feeling alot better.

Did they say your waters had broken? Did they scan or swab you? Have they given you antibiotics

I ask as my waters broke at 14+5 and antibiotics are essential to prevent infection and prolong the pregnancy if your waters have gone.

The doctor said the swab was negative. So have no idea what was going on with the whole thing.

Hi Danniied

Hope you are feeling better now, just wanted to let you know that something similar happened to me at 21 weeks when I had a small gush - enough to wet my feet (tmi). I went to hospital and they didn't swab but they said they were 'pretty sure' they hadn't gone. But they said I should rest up for a few days to be on the safe side. I was really worried but beside me on the floor is a very healthy 1 yr old - born late!

I never did have any explanation and was told it was probably a normal pregnancy 'discharge' [hmmm](which I know it wasn't) and another midwife said it could have been a hindwater leak where a small separate sack of waters around the baby breaks.

Incidently my waters did break twice when in labour (once with meconium) five days before my son was born - and each time I was examined and told they were intact - so I think sometimes they can't really tell.

Another midwife said after that it is possible for waters to go in earlier pregnancy and then to spontaneously heal over become intact again.

If you have any more leakage go straight back - and as they cannot always be sure if waters have gone see if you can demand a scan to check your depths.

Hope this helps

Hello Danniied,

My waters also went early (though 34 wks so not as early as yours). They said that when you're preterm they keep the baby inside you even if your waters have broken, and they monitor you regularly for infections. Also right up till the last week or so you are still producing amniotic fluid so even if they do leak a bit you just make more. Hope this is reassuring

Thanks. I knew it wasn't urine (as didn't smell) and knew it wasn't discharge as it was too much in one go. My friends hindwaters went and they filled back up. I think with the contractions and everything else that was going on it was a bit scarey. I just need to do as I'm told and rest more. I had over done it that week and with my MS and no transport I have been really stressed out.
