Seems like every post i start is about something else that this pregnancy is doing to my body but here goes....

are pins and needles normal to get alot in pregnancy - wake up with them in my arms a hell of a lot - not something i had before getting pregnant - they arent bothering me as such, i am just curious as its not a symptom ive heard of......

I've had lots of pins and needles too. I thought it was because I was leaning on my wrists while typing...... but then I found out I was pregnant Seem to get it when I wake up and when I'm driving too.

Yes, pregnancy thing, I reckon it's related to the carpal tunnel thing you can get as well (I got it in the last month with DD).

It is carpal tunnel, if it gets bad ask your gp/midwife to refer you to a physio, they can confirm diagnosis and give you splints to wear on your wrists, horribly uncomfortable but they do work! Mine never completely went away after pregnancy, although it was alot better, its already back this pregnancy (only 10 wks) but trying to put off wearing the splints!

Hevster...there can't be many symptoms left now...! Good news is that I passed the gtt with flying colours lol. I seem to be just under consultant care now rather than seeing midwife so will mention it to him. I'm just surprised that pregnancy gives you pins and needles. Crazy.
:-)
Thanks all, nice to hear i'm not the only one with thisi.

As others have said CTS, mine has not gone completly post baby, but usually it does. I'm 2 years down the road and tbh as I know that splints are the first set of treatment I don't think its bad enough atm to get them, or i have just got used to it

Definately sounds like Carpal Tunnel. I've developed this over the last 3-4 weeks (am 39 weeks) and have got a splint to wear. It does help but very hot to wear particularly at night when I find the pins and needles the worst.

Dr said it usually improves after 6-8 weeks of giving birth. If not they start to treat it - I think with some kind of injection then as last resort surgery.

Guys

mentioned this to the conaultant yesterday, and that its accompanied by the most horrendous shoulder pain ever, i have had no sleep due to this, ive tried an ice pack on my shoulder that didnt help and have taken paracetamol, i am at a loss what to try now, im literally in agony - is this part of the CTS? if so anyone know of a safe pain relief method?
xx

ps - consultant said no point reffering me as im due in 11 weeks....

storm try warmth on your shoulder rather than ice. In horses they say ice is only effective the first 24-48 hours after injury as it primarily reduces swelling. When I trashed all my shoulder ligaments warmth helped - hot water bottle wrapped in a towel or heated blanket?
