Pregnancy

5 weeks- anyone experienced 'period pain' symptoms?

Hi everyone,

I discovered nearly a week ago that i'm about 5 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and have been experiencing weird 'period pains', even though I know it's not my period, and (touch wood), no sign of a mc.

They're not constant, and on occasion will be sharper if I move suddenly, but they're not on one particular side- seem to happen all over!

Can anyone reasure me that they've had these in early pregnancy, or are currently experiencing them?

Thanks!

I had these every time! The first time I was paranoid so ended up at the hospital at midnight to get checked out. Third pregnancy I had them the entire time.

Oh and it was normal uterus doing new stuff kind of pain. They gave me a much more technical explination but I've forgotten how to explain it.

Thanks Sach, that does reassure me more! Keep being hugely paranoid and running to the loo every now and again to check that nothing 'bad' is happening!

I feel very bloated too- already look about 5 months gone, god knows what i'll actually look like at 5 months1

Yes, I had these too, with DD and with current pregnancy. It's pretty normal (I think I posted about it on here too!).

Mention them to your GP though - he might want you to get an early scan just to make sure everything is where it should be.

I had a scan at 5+4 with my DS1 (because of the pains) and it was very reassuring.

I had these both times, it's the muscles in your womb moving, or something like that. Congrats, by the way

Thanks everyone for your kind words, do feel better now. Got an official dating scan in a couple of weeks, so will hopefully put my mind at rest then!

Hi, I am 5 weeks too and have had the same thing on & off for the past few days (and nights!!). It is freaking me out a little! They feel just like period pains and there's no blood or sharp pains. Is this normal??

I had these cramps with my first. Scared me too! I was told that it's the embryo attatching to the womb and is normal. Always worth checking with MW if your worried, even to put your mind at ease

Sounds just like me sparky- glad to know (in a weird kind of way!) that some of us are having the same issue! When did you find out?

I had them too! In fact I had them when I didn't know I was pregnant and expected period any minute. I was puzzled when none came.
Doc said it was just the womb & ligaments around it stretching.

It does sound a bit grim when the doc talks about wombs and ligaments stretching, but I guess that's nothing compared with what else is to come!

Thanks CC, found out just over a week ago. I feel a bit better seeing all the responses. Hope it doesn't carry on too long, it's wearing me out. Am very excited as well!!

Had these with both my pregnancies, asked on here the first time and it seemed like loads of women get them but no-one seems to talk about it! It's just your uterus preparing for the baby its growing. If you have an bleeding ring the midwife straight away otherwise enjoy your pregnancy.

I was the same as wukter first time around, had done a test a few days before and it came up negative then got cramps and very sore boobs so was waiting for period. Few days later was very sick and thought I had food poisoning, the food poisoning is now 3!!

Oh God I read that so very wrong, cinnamongreyhound. I read "If you have a bleeding ring..." as something else entirely.

Hi everyone!
I found out 2 days ago I am pregnant and Ive been having sort of period like pains today but higher up than the usual area, I was really worried but you have reassured me!
Is it just me or does it kinda feel like extreme trapped wind?

Can anyone tell me if I am entitled to an early scan as I dont know how far gone I am? I was being treated for suspected adenomyosis, turns out its not and everything works just fine, but as a result I havent had a period since feb so I havent actaully got any dates to go on! I feel like such a crap human being saying that but considering at one point it was debatable as to whether I could even become pregnant I do feel very pleased too
Being totally new to this and somewhat stunned, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!

Luckykitty - try calling NHS direct, they would be able to advise you. I have called before and they were really helpful. Good luck!

I had that with both. All fine. The hormones do weird stuff to your pelvis ligaments.

Hello
Just done 2 positive tests this weekend. Woo hoo! But have exactly the same concerns re period pain and trapped wind and looking much more pregnant than I am (bloatation!). So happy to find this thread and realise it's normal (my first time)!

Happened to me to! I thought I'd developed some weird food allergy and was cramping because of it- ended up eating nothing but rice in an attempt to rule out the 'allergen'! When I found out I was pg I panicked a bit as cramping doesn't seem to be in any of the books. Doc said it was probably ligaments etc but I had a couple of blood tests to check all normal. Which it was

DS now 10m and fine!

Yep those cramps in the early weeks are normal as far as I'm concerned!

I had them too and I'm now 11 weeks with a positive scan done at 8 weeks.

I had this too - had a scan at 9 weeks as pain intensified and had some bleeding too, but all was well. Am 17 weeks now. If you are worried though, speak to a mw if you can or if not your GP.

Thank you so much for all the advice and for posting this in the first place!
I'm the same in that I found out about a week ago and am now 5 weeks with first pregnancy. I'm so excited but so many of my friends have had problems that I'm also very paranoid!
Have been getting period style cramping mostly in lower abdomen/pelvis a couple of times a day for the past few days. No bleeding but I dread seeing it every time I go to the loo! This has made me feel loads better as it doesn't seem to be a symptom that is listed in any pregancy books!
