Is honey safe to eat in pregnancy?

I suffer from terrible hayfever which is helped by eating local honey. However it is unpasturised and I'm 5 weeks pregnant. I've stopped taking it now (today when i realised it wasn't pasturised), but I'm worried about botulism spores i may have already ingested. I have a doctors appoinment so i will ask then but it's not for 10 days and i'm worrying.

Yes, it's fine. Botulism spores can only grow in the stomachs of babies under a year, not adults, and it's the spores itself which cause it and they won't be able to cross the placenta to the baby.

And this is even if the spores are present in the first place, which although possible, is rare.

pregnant women are advised to have honey and lemon drinks when suffering from a cold, so it must be fine!
