Hi there, I am 30wks and due end July so not quite as heavily pg as yourself, but please think of me in this years forecast heatwave!! Gonna be a hot one apparently

As it is I'm already wearing as few clothes as possible (vest tops/crop trs etc) but with works 'no exposed shoulders' policy I have to wear a shrug over them - so they've issued me with a desk fan, which my colleagues have stolen

Only 3 more weeks at work then can chill at home eating fab lollies all day after taking ds to school

Don't know about OP but I'm in West Yorkshire and although its cloudy, it's really humid.

Buy some magicool! And dont spry it on your face, but on your feet. Used to cool me own almost instantly.

You have my deepest sympathies, two of mine were summer babies.

CarGirl · 19/05/2010 16:59

Bowl of cold water and stick your feet in it, ice cubes too if needed. Keep curtains/blinds shut during the day to help keep the house cool.

I survived until the end of August - the heatwave of 2003 - it was 28-32 degrees for 3 months apart from 1 day!!!!

I slept naked on the leather sofa with the patio doors and windows open to cope - didn't actually sleep much tbh!

Well, I am due in October, so will be pregnant ALL summer!!! I suggest everyone stock up on fans before it gets too hot - everywhere was sold out when I tried to get one during my last pg in 2006 (which was a scorcher).

They said it was a BBQ summer last year and it wasn't, so I'm not getting too worried yet.

buy a proper full size rotating pedestal fan so you can sleep with it at the end of the bed directed on you. Also buy a smallish paddling pool and sit in it in the garden in your swimming costume!

WHAT ABOUT ME????????????????

I was 37 weeks pg on the hottest day ever recorded in the UK (11 Aug 2003). And I went out for a big celebration lunch and ate a roast dinner on that day too.

You will all survive . Best tip I know for cooling down is to run cold tap over your inner wrists for a few minutes.

I wear jeans at work, and cover up, but sit by a window, and drink cold water all day. So not too bad.
It's driving home that I find difficult i the heat.
As soon as I get home, I change into whatever is comfy. Can't have any thing on in bed - no bed clothes.
I look a sight, but my other half is glad of all the covers for a change
Oh yeah, 35 wks preggers!

I was 8 months pg during a heatwave and chose that week to take a trip to London. We had to walk miles to get anywhere. I was so fed up. My ankles swelled up. I fainted on the tube. I sat every night with my feet in a bucket of water, no clothes on and cried.

Such a magical time.

Our house has a ceiling fan in our bedroom, cue us muttering "how naff, that must go" under our breath when we bought the house. First summer here I was pregnant (was due in July) and the fan stayed....

I sat in the garden in a long t shirt and knickers today... until the neighbour came out and saw me. Damn

Look, I'm sorry, but is there some unusually hot weather going on at the moment?

I live in the South East, which is usually the hottest part of the country, but it has been nothing above pleasantly warm here today. Infact the sun had gone in entirely by about 1.30pm. At the moment I have the heating and a cardigan on.

Is there something funny going on elsewhere in the country???

Have been pregnant twice through 2 heatwaves (1 in mid-trimester, 1 for last 2m)

Believe me, this is NOT hot

I am due in August so expect me to put in some serious whingeing time before then

ShowOfHands · 19/05/2010 20:57

Isn't hot here either. Just warm. I've been to Sainsbo's this evening in a woolly hat and jumper. Plus other clothes obviously. They don't like me knickerless in the sausage aisle.

Are you feeling a bit fenced in OP? Any chance you've accidentally crawled into the oven?

38 weeks, ankles like tree trunks. the only part of me that isn't swelling is my eyelashes I swear... would murder for a ceiling fan

I was in tennerife about two months ago, when there was a proper heat wave, and could manage then. Loved it!
I live in the north west, where it is usually cold and raining.
But for some reason i am finding it hot ( even though it probably isn't)
got constantly sweaty arm pitts - lovely

GlastonburyGoddess · 19/05/2010 22:07

all the windows open all day and night, aircon on constantly on full when driving. finished work now,(emi, residential care etc so vv hot) couldnt stand the heat any longer and physically job getting impossible.

Just pleasantly warm here too, I'm in the South-East/East Central. but then I'm only a few weeks pregnant and for some reason, feeling mostly quite shivery. As I remember, the personal-central-heating thing didn't start until I was at least 20 weeks last time!

Report
PigeonsInFlight · 19/05/2010 22:17

Sympathies, I was 9 months pregnant in a heatwave too. And then went nearly 2 weeks overdue

Annoying thing was it started to rain the day DD was born and then didn't stop for about 3 months (summer of 2007)

Lie in a bath of tepid water

Sit with feet in bowl of cold water

Drink lots of chilled drinks

Don't go anywhere

I hope and pray for a winter / spring baby next time.

CherryPie3 · 19/05/2010 22:49

Another one here who was 9 months pregnant in a heatwave - July 2006. I survived on ice lollies and ice cubes and sleep!!
