Ante natal "telephone appointment"....

...anyone had one of these?

I'm 6-7 weeks and saw GP last week to request referral to ante natal unit / scans etc.

Received a letter from the hospital today inviting me to a "telephone appointment", i.e. I ring them at a specific time in 3 weeks.

I was rather expecting an appointment with a midwife, face to face, I recall with 1st pregnancy they took bloods at the initial appointment.

Is this usual and if so please can someone tell me what happens at this "appointment"?

TIA

Not had a telephone appointment but I am also pregnant with my second baby and they seem to just leave you alone. I did have bloods taken at my booking app but then only appointments at 16 weeks for quadruple test and at 28 weeks for AntiD. Just seems to be an agreement that I contact them if I have concerns as I have done this before! Would imagine they might combine your bloods with your scan app or ask you to drop into your GP surgery. Congratulations!!xx

Thanks Bluefootedpenguin, phone appointment is on tuesday so I can ask about bloods etc then.

TBH I do recall getting annoyed at my 1st midwife appointment that they were talking about birth plans and bf when I hadn't even had a scan to confirm viable pregnancy yet.

Think I'll be pretty happy to be left alone this time around, although I am hoping for an early scan as we have a holiday booked over my 12th week, not sure how I'm going to wangle that one.

They won't want to do your 12 week scan early but you could ask for an extra scan for reassurance at your epu, these seem to be becoming more common.

I wasn't optimistic about an early dating scan but am a bit concerned that I might miss the boat for booking a nuchal translucency scan as we will have to do that privately if we decide we want one.

I think the EPU would send me for a scan in the same department as the dating scans so it would actually increase rather than decrease their workload.

Am hoping the midwife, if that's who I will be having my telephone appointment with, will be sympathetic.

Am starting to wonder if it might just be an appointment with a telephone clerk who completes a form with dates etc, although GP has all those details already. Will have to stop second guessing and wait until tuesday.
