Pregnancy

Is this all normal?

Hello

Got a much waited for BFP a few days ago and am very very nervous as my previous experience of pregnancy ended in a MMC at 12 weeks. I was blissfully unaware before that my lack of PG symptoms was something to worry about, but am now monitoring every changing symptom as a 'sign'. Arrggh.

Anyway - is it normal to have cramp-like feelings later in the day / evenings?

Also, although it is very early days I am finding myself quite breathless after climbing stairs etc - surely that only happens later on in pregnancy right?

And boobs(!): should they feel sore all the time or is it ok if the soreness comes and goes?

Sorry for the dim-witted questions, I think if someone told me I should stand on one leg for 9 months to guarantee a healthy pregnancy I would

Thanks!

Hey there Charlie

Congratulations

I can only give you my experiences (v. limited!) I am 35 and this is my first pregnancy to go to 39 wks(mc at 13 weeks on previous child when in my 20's).

I was almost instantly breathless walking the dog and climbing the stairs seemed like monumental tasks and I was left out of breath badly (previously swam every day and was not over weight at all).

Boobs were weird some weeks they were constantly sore, so bad I went nuts if DH even looked at them through a t-shirt and other weeks they were on/off sore. I think this depends from preg to preg too as some friend have reported differently with different children.

I had bad evening sickness rather than morning sickness and I did get twinges or 'growing pains' in the early stages I also had a cyst or active ovary (still not quite sure what was going on but EPU seemed to think it was very common and nothing to worry about). I also bled slightly at 24 weeks (prob due to sex)

I will say though that these were all symptoms of this pregnancy. I never had any morning sickness, pains, boob problems etc with my preg that mc, nothing, so on reflection they were probably positive things, but I do understand your worrys. I was exactly the same double checking everything and worrying about everything.

I will say though that I discussed the abdo pains (and prev mc) with my Dr (as before mw had been in touch) and he was wonderful and booked me in with the EPU at 7/8 weeks so they could reasure me that it was a viable pregancy at that point as I was getting rather worked up about it all.

Dont be afraid to ask qustions on here the advice is great and they have all helped me out lots too

Stay positive, good luck and just wait for the hormones to kick in!

Not going to give you a medically-authorised seal of approval, but for this current pg (2 previous mcs), the following were true for me early on too:

  1. Cramps- got these quite a bit and always, always scared the pants off myself (literally, to go and check for spotting) about them. I don't think they were at a particular time of day though.

  1. Breathless- weird but yes, I had been trying to keep on with my running but was panting too much to even jog. Stairs ditto.

  1. Boobs- Soreness came and went.

I'm now 37 weeks

Because of the past mcs, I had a reassurance scan at 8wks at our EPU- I hope you have the same arrangement, as they were able to give me lots of encouragement at that point which helped us get along to 12 weeks with a slightly lowered worry level. Just phone them and ask if not. Good luck

Congratulations I got breathless pretty soon as well, so don't worry about that - in fact my MIL told me that the first symptom she always had (in all 4 kids) was getting out of breath on the hill to the house from the shops.

My boobs were sore on and off, not constant, so that's ok too, and I had on off cramps for a while as well.

Thank you for your replies - all very reassuring I'm going to try and get an early scan (hopefully around 8 weeks), but I am over analysing every tiny symptom. Its good to hear what I am feeling is pretty normal. I know what you mean about knicker-checking, every trip to the loo is an emotional rollercoaster at the moment!

Bondwife and Fatseal - very best of luck to you both! Its great to see some good news after MC Hope all goes well for you.

Sorry to hear of your previous MMC. Try not to worry, this is my third pregnancy and I have always suffered breathlessness and strong cramping during the first trimester, the latter for a number of weeks. With my first dd I had tender boobs, with my second dd they were fine and with this pregnancy I am only now (14 weeks) feeling some slight sensitivity in them.

Good luck.

With my first pregnancy I didnt know that i was pregnant until 8 weeks because i had what I thought were period cramps and extremely sore breasts (which I always get a few days before my period) for several weeks, but as I'm usually irregular I just assumed that a period was on its way until I did the test.

With my second pregnancy ihad exactly the same thing for the first two months.

I think many people's pregnancies are different, but not all aches and pains are bad. Try to relax and not let any fears about that are beyond you're control spoil any part of this magical experience! Just trust your own intincts and if you're worried... dont be imbarrassed about calling your midwife out of hours!

Thank you - not telling anyone about being pregnant yet so its great to hear what other people experienced.

Cramps - All the time! I felt as though period was imminent until 11 weeks! Then the cramps returned from around 16 - 21 weeks again as I stretched out!

Breathlessness - Everyone is different, I'm 27 weeks and have only just started to get this as everything feels like it's shoving itself up inside me. I groan around a bit on the sofa when getting up and down much to OH's amusement! :D

Boobs - Mine were agony. Absolute agony. Then at 10 weeks it just stopped! They are sensitive every now and then but nothing much.

I've really been lucky though - no sickness, side effects, SPD... anything ... yet (touch wood!) and at my 12 week scan was shocked to see a little baby charging around my tummy!

Even now, thanks to having the worlds LAZIEST baby, I forget I'm pregnant. Seriously, he is so so lazy, he rarely moves! My MW is happy with him and says he's fine but I wish he would perk up a bit!

Anyway, shall stop rambling. Congratulations and I hope all goes well for you too!
