2nd timers please tell me your bump is much bigger and growing much faster this time round?

Just wondering really,
I am just 23 wks with DS2.

On my first pg I was neat as a button, not in maternity wear till around 26 weeks. Was pleased as punch with myself and condescending about others who had let themselves go with ginormous bumps.

This time however, my bump appeared literally overnight at around 18 weeks ,is mahooosive, high and all out in front, literally going straight out from under my ribs. ( don't remember when that happened but def much later on first pg)I have already outgrown the top I wore going to the hospital to have DS!!!!

Will it continue to grow this fast?

Feck it... there's still 4 months to go!!

It's really uncomfortable on the top of the bump- rock hard and kind of tender.
I'm kind of mortified cos my entire body shape has changed so fast( had more time to consider it last time, I suppose)

I met someone yesterday who is 34 weeks and my bump is twice the size of hers. I was mortified --- I should embrace it I know. But still...
And also getting so many funny looks at work. Literally was wearing skinny jeans a month ago. People are stopping in their tracks to check it's me I think.

I know, I know, not a life or death issue to post on, but I am curious. Anyone else with a giant beachball under their dress?

not a beachball as such but definitely putting on the weight faster than before. I am only 11 weeks but can't fit in my work trousers/skirts anymore - am aware its more likely to be bloating (especially due to the need to eat every hour to stop feeling sick!) but am facing the fact that once I am reassured by the 12w scan next week, I will have to buy some maternity gear. Dh reckons it was the same with dd but I'm not convinced!

Tjtheminx, you are not alone, I do have a giant beachball under my dress! I'm 31 weeks and nearly the size I was at 42 weeks with my nearly 10lb DS1. I started showing this time around at about 8 weeks, whereas I didn't until about 13 weeks with DS1. I say it's down to the stomach muscles just not being as tight as they used to be. (Also I think this baby is going to be big, it's in my genes!)

It gets tiring hearing "any day now" and being asked if it's twins when revealing the due date, but at least people are moving out of my way when I walk down the street and insisting I have a seat on the train!

Exactly the same here although DC3. I went from no bump to waddling about overnight! My trousers actually still fit as they are low cut and I have lost weight through morning sickness but I definitely have a huge stomach now

I'm 15 weeks and look enormous. My sister got married when I was 16 weeks last time, and the photos show me as being flat tummied and slim. Second time round and I have been in maternity trousers for nearly a month already! And yes, the bump is rounder, higher and all out in front this time.

yes, yes and yes! 28 weeks with no.2 and people keep thinking I must be due 'any day now'. Grrrr. I lost weight at first due to morning sickness then around 20 weeks this basketball seemed to appear under my jumper overnight!

If it's any consolation, another 2nd-timer I met at a baby group told me the bump arrived more quickly but then it didn't grow as much, so by the end she wasn't actually any bigger than with her 1st, she just showed quicker. I'm clinging on to that thought...

Lawd yes! First time I was still wearing my normal jeans with one of those belly expander things when I went to the hospital in labour.

This time, I had to go buy maternity jeans at 6 weeks! I am the size of a house. It is kind of nice though, people actually noticing I am pregnant this time around and being extra kind.

Much higher bump as well.

I have just had 4 people stop me in the street to tell me how huge I am, and when is dc3 due - I am 23WEEKS!!!.

I seem to have put on so much weight this this time, even though I have been so active, walking the school run every day.

I'm hoping that I do that thing of reaching maximum size early, and then plateauing towards the end.

Definitely a theme here- I was neat and didn't show properly until 20wks or so with dd, but this time round I was in maternity trousers before 12 wks FFS! Also have been asked the due date from about 24 wks onwards- people looked very amused/ worried when they found out there were a few months left.

I'm not sure about the ballooning and then not growing too much theory either, as dd was tiny (4lbs 15oz) and this one is growing fine and must be about 5.5lbs now (35 wks), so bigger than dd was when she was born and I really do feel enormous.

And no dropping this time round either so still in my ribs and breathless with bad reflux arg! Can't wait to have this bubba out

I'm the same! I'm only 7wk & after a good meal I've got a belly and a half on me - look a good 4 months! With DS I was still in own clothes upto about 16 -18weeks, but this time some of my jeans are already too uncomfy - or the belt comes off after lunch! It is worrying & I'm not sure how I'm going to keep it quiet till the 12 wk scan. I was also really fit before falling pg this time (and last) so I'm surprised my stomach muscles have given in so easily! I just hate that inbetween own clothes & maternity clothes! Plus all my maternity clothes from last time will have stretched as I put a whopping 3.5stone on with DS1!! I definitely ate all the pies!

Glad I'm not the only one!! I'm 26 weeks and wasn't this big last time. It is really high, right under my ribs this time, and there seems to be loads of water in my gut area? Not the perfect little football like last time?
Everyone keeps telling me I'm having a girl this time, as i've more weight - how annoying is that !!
I seem to get that stretching ligament pain low down more often this time aswell?
Doubt I'll be lucky enough to avoid the stretch marks though tis time either! lol x

Phew, glad I'm not alone.
Ya, I escaped the stretchmarks the last time but I am not holding out any hope this time.

hazeyjane and fatseal I've been on the recieving end of a few horrified faces when people have asked my due date and I mutter ... end of July under my breath!

morloth I agree twill be nice this time to actually look pg for a decent amount of time. Loads of people didn't even know I was pg until the end last time. Although this bump appeared so fast I'm still adjusting to the fact it's even there!

I'm also hoping for the initial spurt and then a plateau too... wishful thinking I'd say.

Although today one of my bosses started muttering how he'd "heard a rumour" and "I wouldn't be pregnant would I??" He seemed to think he was really clever in working out I was pg --- FFS I was nearly taking his eye out with this high up bump. Ladies' waistlines don't go from 28inches to 46+ inches in the space of 4 weeks for any other reason!! Needless to say the entire office spent the next hour taking the p out of him. He's kind of clueless like that.

Hi.
I have had two children, and I can definately say that I was much bigger the secind time around! When I went for my first scan, I was wearing my maternity trousers from the first time round, as everything else was too tight! When I was scanned, it turned out that I was only ten weeks + 2! Apparently it is because your stomach muscles take a pounding the first time round, and are never really the same again, so instead of holding you in neatly like they did first time round, they just give, making it all look bigger! A bit like the knees in a pair of cheap leggings, once you have worn them a few times! :O

Hehe! Thought I was the only one - hand planned on saying I'd just not managed to lose the 1st pg belly. 16 weeks and already as big as I was starting 3rd trimester 1st time round.

I've just been remarking on this today! I am 8 weeks +4 with my third and already I look really pregnant! DH said the other day "you've got a bump!" and I said "nonsense, I'm just fat because I've been eating so much" .

But I looked at it today and it's really firm, not flabby at all - a definite bump and it's very noticeable. I'm worried now, like you, Bubbakin, how on earth I'm going to keep it quiet until 12 weeks!

I think I am going to be huge this time round. I reckon I'm about the size I was at about 20 weeks with my eldest.

ladyjadey · 22/03/2010 10:09

I am 18 weeks now, about same size I was at 25 weeks with DD. And bigger boobs too, and colustrum already.

parkj83 · 22/03/2010 10:27

Yup, I'm 14+3, and I'm into maternity jeans already - I didn't need them till I was at least 24 weeks with DS

DH has commented, asking is everything ok... I don't know!

This is all making me feel much better!

I'm 23 weeks and utterly massive. Last week I got really upset about it as I appear to have reached the stage when you walk down the street and people stare at your bump - I've got 4 months to go! How enormous will I be by the end?

I can't really remember exactly how big I was with DS1 but my tummy button had definitely not popped out by now
