I have no desire to move into maternity bras anytime soon but I can't remember when you are supposed to stop wearing underwired bras? I don't possess any non underwired bras so that's not an option. Anyone?

i thought that underwire was fine as long as it is against your rib cage and not the breast tissue, and that you get measured properly.

i refuse to believe wire will do more damage that the hitting, headbutting and elbow jabbing my toddler is inflicting on them

Totally agree with bamboobutton. My GP said a good fitting bra is much more important that whether or not it is wired. It is worth going to a really good shop to be measured (i.e. not M&S, John Lewis etc) and keep going regularly throughout your pregnancy. I only ever wore underwired with all my pregnancies.

Willing to be corrected if this advice is wrong of course!

I wore underwires throughout as well and didn't cause me any problems. As bamboo says I think it's more about the fit of the bra than whether it has underwire or not. Go to bravissimo is my advice, they are fab.

I have been wearing uderwires up untill now and then went to get some bigger ones as mine were digging into me. Was told by shop assistant that underwire not a good idea etc so got some maternity ones, but....... put one on today and they actually make my boobs look ridiculous, not enough support at all, i'm going back to underwires!!!!!

I think underwires are fine too. I did the 'right' thing when pg with dd and switched to soft cup, but hated it, and I think it probably did more damage than good, as it just cannot offer the same support. With ds, I wore Anita underwired nursing bras and they were fantastic

Thanks! Sounds like the advice has changed from when I had DS1+2 - or perhaps because I was posting on a US site at the time and they are so ultra-cautious about everything that you have pretty much not eat/drink/live during your pg....

I am looking forward to not having such saggy boobs this time round (actually should rephrase - still have saggy boobs, they just don't look saggy in a "proper" bra)
