20 week advice

Hi all

I had my 20 week scan last week. Prior to this, I had not felt the baby move. The scan was perfect, and showed my placenta was at the front, hence why I probably hadn't felt the baby move.

Only hours after the scan, I felt the baby kicking quite strongly, and the same again the next day. However since then (so for two days) I haven't felt anything at all from the baby.

The logical side of me knows this is probably quite normal; the baby is probably just in a different position, but the irrational, new mum side of me is getting rather worried.

Anyone experienced the same or have some advice?

Any worries at all, speak to your midwife. Don't worry about bothering them, you are worried, they will put your mind at rest.

Hello Chestnut.

I am 22 wks with no.2 and had no movements until a couple of weeks ago and then they were sporadic - soem days lots, some days none.

In the last few days it has been more regular (constant!)

I'd imagine you are normal.

Oh, and absolutley contact your mw if you are at all worried.

They'll have been contacted for a lot less!

Similar story here. Am 24 weeks pg with DC3 and had only been feeling movements for a few days before the 20 week scan. I have low lying placenta atm, and was told that it was because of this that I wasn't feeling much movement, but when I saw DD2 on the scan, I was reassured as she is quite a wiggler!

I second the advice to speak to a MW if you are at all worried, but tbh, I think it's just one of those things. Some days I feel her move constantly, others, not at all.

I also had anterior placenta and had exactly same experience... I couldn't feel anything much after a few days of a lot of movement..if you have anterior placenta feel a lot less movement and only feel baby depending on position. Call midwife if you are worried but its probably just as the baby has moved to a different position.

as everyone said, ring your midwife for the extra reassurance of an expert of course..

but IME it's perfectly normal at 20 ish weeks for variations in how much movement you feel.

i'm 23 weeks with my second, placenta at front both times. with this baby sometimes i can feel a flurry of activity, sometimes i don't notice anything for hours.

also, at five months gestation, they apparently have the same sleep patterns as a newborn. and newborns sleep a great deal (if we're lucky!)

good luck with it all!

I barely felt anything around that time. Now from 26-29 weeks the little one is moving all the time. Enjoy the calm now, because it actually is so strong now it is keeping me awake some nights
