Pregnancy

19 weeks with DC2 and very little movement

Hi,

I'm just feeling a bit concerned just now as I'm 19 weeks pregnant with DC2 and haven't really felt any movement yet. I think the main reason its worrying me is I have 2 friends at the same stage who are feeling loads already and have been for a few weeks. 12 week scan was fine and midwife listened to heartbeat at 16 weeks which was fine too. Am I just being silly or is it worth a call to the midwife - should be getting a 20 week scan date through soon but its playing on my mind?

TIA x

I understand how you feel. Loads of things to suggest/ask:

is it your first baby
is it your friends' first babies
do you know from your notes if your placenta is at the front (anterior)
basically they have a lot of room to move round in at this stage. I would wait for 29 weeks scan, but in the interim make an extra mw appt if you are worried

Hope that helps, try not to worry (I do know how ridiculous it is to say that, I wrote the book on worry!)

I didn't feel much movement at all at that stage - i had an anterior placenta so i guess that was why. if you are worried go to GP/midwife to check on doppler but nothing really to worry about.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

saucepanman its second dcs for all of us, which is why I did expect to have felt something by now. Nothing in my notes from 12 week scan to say placenta was anterior - I guess it could have moved since then - is that possible?

I think I might give the mw a call tmr and see what they say - I think part of my worry is due to having a hyperactive ds who always seems to be bouncing off my bump - I feel this new baby is getting bashed all over the place before he/she is even out!

Huge un-mn hugs mc

I am on my 4th pg, all placentas have been anterior. I remember on my wedding day, 19/20 wks pregnant with ds2 and not feeling him move all day. My cousin was 30 wks with her dd and had no movement all day either- sometimes we are just to busy to notice.

Don't know if placenta can move, think not but am no doctor. Don't worry too much about your ds- they are pretty well protected in there. Again with ds2, I had a man hit me in the stomach with a suitcase at the train station . I was 14 wks but ll was fine. Keep the thread updated wrt what you decide, so I am not fretting

So normal. With regards to the placenta, they don't check at the 12 week scan as it's just developing. They note placenta position at the 20 week scan.

Completely normal not to feel movement at 19wks, even in subsequent pregnancies, especially with anterior placentas which you might have.

When are you being seen next? Your midwife will see you if you're concerned.

Just wanted to add the DS2 was breech for most of my pregnancy and I didn't feel much movement at your stage due to that.

So plenty of reasons you may not be feeling much.

Really IronOn? Mine was noted at 10 weeks this time round, maybe it varies according to hospital. Or pregancy- I am there a lot

I got to like 22 weeks before I felt much movement with DC4 (yes child #4). Did I worry heck yeah! But he's fine even now though, he's generally a quite quiet character.

Thanks everyone, I did wonder if I just have a quiet little one in there - not like my ds1 at all! It doesn't look like there is anything about the placenta on my notes so maybe it hasn't been checked yet and is anterior.

I'll give the midwife a call tmr and see what they suggest.

I did think there would be less worry this time around but I guess it never goes away.

I asked about the placenta at my 2nd scan and was told it wasn't looked at until 20wks. Like everything though it probably varies from hospital to hospital.

I don't think you ever stop worrying!

I'm pregnant with DC2 and at 19 weeks I really wasn't feeling that much. However by about 22 weeks the movement was really strong.Literally a week after I could feel the baby move frequently my OH could feel it and you could see it moving too.

My placenta isn't anterior by the way,I think people say you feel it earlier the 2nd time and I didn't.
Don't panic,I would say it's totally normal.
