39 weeks today and having a wobble - Do I really have to give birth?!

This is dd2 and my labour with dd1 was short and I managed on gas and air alone.

For weeks I have wanted the baby out and been excited by any twinges.

After an email conversation with my sister I am scared again. She kindly pointed out that I may need a c section this time if anything went wrong

Dp keeps telling me not to get my hopes up that this one will be as good as last time. I know it might not be but I hate hearing it.

Come and tell me it will be ok

Oh poor you! Not very helpful of your sister to scare you this close to the big day

I think it's generally accepted that second time round is more straight forward than the first so you should be absolutely fine. You did it once, you can do it again.

oh crieky you'll be fine. Mine and my friends 2nd births were MUCH easier than our first ones.

Adopt the phrase 'bring it on'!!!!!

You'll be fine.

You'll probably have it at home, unable to get to hospital in time. One small contraction and pop! out came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar. Or something like that.

your body did this before and it can and will do it again!

it may be a different experience than the first time, but doesnt mean things will go wrong.

Thanks all, I had just had enough of people telling me that I wont have it so easy a 2nd time.

Some women are just really efficient at giving birth. They have short labours, give a couple of coughs and baby is out. And given 2nd labours are traditionally easier and shorter - this well could be you!

Your first labour sounds like my first.

My second was pretty much a soup dragon describes.

You go girlfriend. You can get that baba out.

Nice one, sis! My sister said a similar thing to me before my second. Why do they do that!
Both of my labours were short and straight forward, no reasons why your's should be any different.

My first labour was horrendous and I was terrified of doing it again, so got pg very quickly so i didn't have to overanalyse it too much!! My MW said that generally 2nd labours are your easiest, no matter how many babies you have afterwards, and that was certainly true for me. And for a friend of mine in my A/N class second time round - her first labour was 3 hours from start to finish and her second was about an hour....so I am sure that all will be well!!!

Families - don't you just love 'em - they do say THE most unhelpful things sometimes!!

What a terrible thing for your sister to say.... I am angry with her on your behalf the likelihood is that it will be quicker and easier than the first.... mine certainly was (not that it was so awful the first time, it wasn't, like you on gas and air alone, but was in hospital for 5 hours before she was born, just it was much quicker and easier the second time.)

I actually think both your sister and DP are wrong to say what they have - you MUST expect it to be as easy as last time or easier, I am convinced that the frame of mind of the mother has a massive impact on the outcome of the birth and its therefore really important for you to believe it will be just as easy, if not easier than the first.

Please tell your DP this - ie that its important that you think its going to be easy....

Thanks all! I have decided to do this one alone! Last time dp was more of a pain then a help.

hey, of course you can do it but if you're still scared then get some easybirthdownloads to listen to, they really helped a friend feel great, she was totally chilled in labour and her birth was a breeze!

Hi mama2moo, let me just echo everybody else's posts: my second labour was a breeze in comparison to the first. I'm sure you will be brilliant.

Er, can anyone reassure me about my third birth coming up? (I'm 40 + 3 weeks and my due date here in France is 30 January) I was quietly confident up to recently until too many people told me third deliveries could be dreadful and SLOOOOOOOOW! Yikes.

20+ hours with DC1 and 18 mins with DC2! 2nd time round was def much easier!
