Antibiotics in labour due to VSD - anyone else?

This is my fourth baby, and every time I have to go to see the consultant in order to discuss prophylactic cover for my heart, and I usually argue against it because I object to having vast doses of ABs in my system as aside from my first delivery, they've been too late to do any good, and the canula insertion is SOOOOO painful, it's worse than the pain of crowning (for me anyway!)....

I used to have to have ABs during routine dental checks, but this has recently changed and they no longer insist. Has anyone else managed to avoid AB cover recently?! (hopeful emoticon)

I saw the consultant today - she's not averse to me not having it but I have to go to two separate hospitals for heart scans - one for me, one for the baby - and I just think it's a waste of time, although I will jump through their hoops if there is a chance that I can avoid the medication. My consultant last time said that it's really only the hospital covering themselves - so I said I'd sign a non-suing disclaimer or something, but he wouldn't let me do that.
