Medised at 39+5: would you?

I have a really bad cold. I can't breathe, and didn't sleep much last night.

I am very very tempted to knock myself out with 5ml of Medised tonight, get a good night sleep and an unblocked nose!

I have googled it, but it comes back as being a B medicine (like lots of others), ie tested and safe on pregnant mammals but untested on pg women.

The ingredients are paracetamol and antihistamine, both of which are safe to take in pregnancy separately, aren't they?

So, would you?

Yeah I would! I drink Lemsip when Im ill (37 weeks pg now) although not as much as when not pg.

I think its more of an issue to take things early on when your baby is still developing, all your baby is doing now is growing.

Hope you feel better soon

My Dad is a GP and gave me sleeping pills (can't remember which) at the end of my first pregnancy - I was totally insomniac and in a complete state due to lack of sleep - insomnia had been a problem for the whole 3rd trimester, and had got worse and worse. He said he thought the risk of me totally loosing it and not being able to cope with each day let alone a birth, was higher than the risk of the medication to my unborn child - as the previous poster said, baby fully developed by this stage. You might be happier about talking to your GP though.

I don't think antihistamines are ok in pregnancy, I'm not sure, but maybe check this out.

I have just had very blocked sinuses (lasted weeks , am 14 weeks). As well as paracetemol, I used baby saline spray (the calpol one), which really helped with blocked nose, as did a calpol plugin. I also had a humidifier going, propped up the head of the bed, and (I am going to sound insane now!) put a chopped onion in our room - the smell made me heave, but it really stopped the cough I had.HTH

i might be being dim, but surely 5ml of a childs medicine is not going to do any harm? will it even help at all?

NOT being shitty - genuinely asking.

Stick to paracetomol and a warm drink - they seem to have an unblemished safety record.

breathe right strips help if you are congested and safe to use in pregnancy.
Steam your head over a bowl of hot water with a towel, add olbas oil, vicks or essential oil if you want but just plain water works too.
I have no knowledge of medised.
Saline spray also helps.
Agree with MNWL about antihistimines.

Thanks everyone!

Didn't take in the end.

Wimpy, it works wonders on a blocked nose, and knocks you out in 20 minutes. 5 ml knock my Dp out too, and he's a 19 stone, 6ft4 man!

That's the only thing that guarantees me a good night's sleep when I have a bad cold.

Last night I used Olbas, which did help, and since we're more or less snowed in, I can't go out and buy anything else.

Thanks for your replies!
