pregnancy tablets make me throw up..any ideas?

I'm 22 weeks and it has taken me this long to realise, that after taking Pregnacare tablets I can't help but throw them up 30 minutes later. SO haven't been taking any vitamins atall for last 3/4 weeks. My diet is okish...plenty of fruit, hate veg and chicken (makes me feel sick) so lots of carbs, dairy, some red meat, fish etcera instead. And also unfortunatley a lot of sugary snacks (incl can of full fat coke a day as CRAVE it!!) as have major sugar craving/knackered feeling.

Why I am throwing them up? I remember having to take iron tablets after my first baby was born and feeling really nauseaus with them too - is it that? will I be alright without vits?

Funnily enough, even when I'm not pregnant, if I'm not careful when I take my regular multivit/mineral (ie after eating) I feel very sick.

Hmmmm. Seeing midwife in 3 weeks. Should I wait until then?

I've been sick since day one taking them this pregnancy was fine last time! Weird isn't it?

I wouldn't bother with them if you have a good diet anyway. They made me feel really bad this time and I ended up going back to just taking folic acid. Since 13 weeks I haven't been taking any supplements at all. Annoying since they were blardy expensive.

I used them last time and they were fine, and used them for a few days this time and they gave me a really bad stomach so since about 12 weeks I haven't taken any supplements. It's odd that they have such different effects over 2 pregnancies.

I asked my midwife and she said that the baby takes all that it needs from you and you get left with the rest so baby will be fine. I've just tried to eat a pretty varied diet but to be honest this pregnancy has must made me want to eat carbs, meat and chocolate! I wouldn't worry too much, eat what you fancy and just make sure you stay well hydrated and well rested.

I feel very nauseous when i swallow any sort of pill - although don't actually throw up. try taking time of day when least likely to throw up.

anyway if you have good diet you don't really need them.

I could't get on with them either. They are so big I gagged on them every time. I think at 22 weeks you'll be ok if you don't take them anymore (I assume you have had your 20 week scan?).

you only need to take folic acid (up to 12 w) - pregnancy vitamins are not necessary and the iron can often make you feel dodgy. Best not to take them and keep what you can manage to eat in your stomach rather than throwing up.

Chuck them in the bin.
Waste of money.

I had hyperemeisis for first 3.5 mths and ate NOTHING. Lost 1.5 stone. My iron levels were still at top end of normal. If you were in decent health before pg, then you will be fine.

One of the vits in the formula can cause nauseous feeling if taken on empty stomach . Sorry can't remember which ( baby brain) but it is a common effect.
have u tried taking them after food, or at bedtime or after your tea? No reason why you have to take vitamins first thing in morning

Have you tried different vits? I couldn't stomach Pregnacare but found a good alternative in the Biocare Ante Natal supplement.

FeedTheBeast - I think my main problem is that they say you must take on a full stomach (I'm not sure if that's new since my last pregnancy?) and I always felt crap anyway after eating so the mahoosive tablet just made me feel even worse.

They made me throw up if I took them in the morning on an empty stomach. I was fine if I took them later in the day.

gaelicsheep - sorry to hear you have been feeling rubbish. If you think that you really need extra support from the vits as your deficient or low in B's for example, then you could try a pill cutter to make it smaller and easier to swallow, or grind it up and dissolve in juice etc, or try a different brand as suggested by another post?

if you are feeling well and healthy and not getting lots of colds etc then i wouldn't worry too much as your diet should give you enough.

Thanks. I'm not at all worried actually. The only reason I started taking them is that I wondered whether not taking them was the reason why I felt much worse than the first time around. Apparently not. I feel fit as a fiddle just now (16 weeks) and making the most of it before the general crapness kicks in in a few weeks.
