Vitamins - ok to take Berroca?

Hi, 14 weeks pregnant with second child and wondered if it was ok to take berroca vitamins - you know the fizzy ones. They've got 400mc of folic acid and usual b and c vitamins, no d so think it's ok. Any advice?

Also, should you keep taking folic acid or a multi throughout the pregnancy?

I think no, ruby. Most non-pg multivits conatin vit A which is a no-go. I'd stick with preggy vits with folic acid and bump up your vit C, maybe...

But I'm no expert...

Hi Ruby,

I could be wrong but I dont think it is recommended that you take berroca when pregnant - what does it say on the tube?

Folic acid is only really needed for first 12 weeks, although taking it longer does no harm (although I'm sure I noticed on here something about recent research linking it to asthma?!).

Might be worth doing a google to make sure!

It's vit A you need to avoid.

I wouldn't bother with vitamins at all tbh other than folic acid for the first 3 mths. Waste of money imo. No evidence of their efficacy at all. but if you want them, then definitely pg ones.

Thanks for advice. No warning on the tube but won't bother taking it. I get tonsillitis quite frequently and wondered if boosting vitamins might stave it off. I'm guessing if I get tonsillitis again I can't take antibiotics (nightmare).

Actually, if you look, berocca don't contain any Vitamin A - I suspect because they are aimed at hangover suffereres who may have indulged in rumpy pumpy, so they have responsibly not included A in there- could be totally off the mark of course!

I have been taking one every other day after the twelve weeks. I took micro folic acid supplements for the first 12 weeks - I can't swallow massive vitamin pills!

If you are getting recurent tonsilitis, you need to get a proper swab done next ime and get the right antibiotics. Too many lazy GPs do not bother and people end up on endless courses of them.
Also, your immunity is suppressed due to pg. Best thing to boost it is excercise and decent frit and veg intake. BOring, but true.

Ruby, you can have antibiotics when pregnant - I've had two lots this pg so far (for chest infection and UTI) so try not to worry too much...

Preggy vits better than nuffin though...
