Weight - a question for those who have gained!

Hi,
I am usually left feeling racked with guilt after reading weight gain threads! I know that a lack of weight gain can be stressful but I was hoping to hear from those who have actually gained because I want to see if my weight gain is average rather than being left feeling like a fat cow!!!

I am 25 weeks and have gained 1 and a half stones. I gained exactly 3 stone with my last pg and in the same way to this pg. I also lost all of my weight soon after giving birth.

I am usually a size 8/10 and am 5ft 11.

Just wondering how this compares with other people?

i am 35weeks and have gained 1 and 1/2 stones muchless than i gained with other 2 pregnancies which was much nearer 3 stone. you can gain anything between 11kgs and 15kgs so the midwife tells me as i was worried i wasn't as big as last time.
husband assures me my bump is as huge just my butt is smaller, small mercys eh!

there are weight gain calculators on the net a good one was recomend in antoher thread can't remeber address off top of my head but might be worth a search.

Hi. I am 19 weeks and have gained 9lbs so far. I have no idea whether this is on track for what is considered normal weight gain, too little, or too much, but I was told by the midwife not to worry too much about it (easier said than done, I know!).

I know people who have gained between 2st and 4st in their pregnancies, and they have all been fine. I think how much you gain and at what stage you gain it depends on the individual, as and long as the baby is growing it's nothing to worry about.

HTH xx

Wow now I feel guilty - I am 33 weeks and have gained 15 kilos. I am just hoping not to go over 20 kilos in total! I feel very ungainly, am used to being very active and capable so am uncomfortable lumbering around, and do feel self conscious especially when seeing people I have not seen in a while - but I am a big believer in your body doing what it needs to, and if it needs more padding than another pregnant lady, then so be it. I exercised until about 30 weeks (now am too knackered!!) and although I do eat a lot - constantly ravenous - it is generally healthy stuff. I know I will lose the weightt because I can't WAIT to be able to exercise again! Please try not to let weight gain worry you. I think it is terrible that women have body image struggles even when pregnant. As my doc said to me, if there is ever a time to stop feeling guilty about food and exercise and do what feels good - this is it!

OP, if you are 5'11" and a size 8/10 you are on the very slim side and so you should gain more than someone who, say, starts out as 5'5" and is a size 12/14. At least, that's what my pregnancy books say. I have been a bit obsessed with what the 'right' amount to gain is as I don't want to end up huge and struggling to lose it. The guidance seems to be that the bigger you are to begin with, the less you probably need to gain, and if you're very slim (as you clearly are) then you need to gain more than average.

I am 16+4 and have gained 4lb so far but I think my belly is about to spring, so I am bracing myself for significant gains over the next few weeks/months. I am 5'7" and started out a size 12.

Thanks all. I know that it can be worrying not to gain weight or to gain too little but I can't help but sometimes feel weight gain threads encourage people to post when they have gained very little.

I hope my weight gain is pretty normal but I rarely post on threads about it because I invariably seem to be the one who has gained the most!

Useful to know that others have gained similar amounts. Thanks! Makes me feel much less of a bloater!!!

You're not a bloater or fat! I'm 38 weeks and have put on just over 2 and a half stone so far. I'm five eight and pre-preg was a size 8-10. Most of my weight went on in the first half of the pregnancy when I seemed to be ravenous the whole time

FWIW I think when you've started off slim, getting your head round the bigger tum/boobs that come with pregnancy is a little strange.

As my DH said to me (so I'll say it to you as well) You're not fat, you're PREGNANT!

I put on weight very very fast between 12 and 25 weeks ish -
about a stone and a half - but only a few pounds either side of that. stopped weighing myself but think about 2 stone over all. is that 10 kilos?
anyway - my appetite just calmed down all by itself a few weeks ago.
when you're ravenous what are you going to do? you have to eat. i did get a bit worried about it and so wish i hadn't bothered. I think it's just weird if you're used to being slim and have always had constant weight to suddenly go up a dress size or two. My knockers are impressive for the first time in my life and my butt is balanced out by my bump so it's all fiiiiiiiine. Also all my friends seem to have shrunk very quickly with breastfeeding etc.
i find the online calculators off putting because they assume such a gradual weight gain. put me quite significantly over and caused me unnecessary angst.
anyway terrible ramble. sorry.
over and out!

Hi Momdeguerre (great name BTW)

I was feeling just as you do about the weight gain (or lack thereof) threads...I'm 36 wks tomorrow, a former size 6, and have put on a serious amount of weight since getting pg! Haven't weighed myself on purpose so I can't give you an exact figure as to how much I've gained...

But to hell to it, this is my first baby, and I'm enjoying and indulging all whims and cravings - plenty of time to get back into shape in the spring when my baby has arrived safely (fingers crossed)

Very best of luck with the rest of the pregnancy...

Thanks CreditC! I am certain you will lose it all with no probs. I must admit I was so so paranoid on my first pg when I gained just over 3 stone and I convinced myself that I had gained a hugely abnormal amount of weight and that I would never lose it all and regain my figure. It really got me down.

This time I still feel like I have gained more than alot of people but I am not entirely convinced that weight threads elicit an accurate response?

Anyway, I feel much reassured by all the posts on here, looks like normal weight gain covers a huge spectrum. Am going to finish the mince pies without guilt!!!!
