Hello to all, Ive been suffering for almost a week with excruciating sinusitis but have also just found out Im pg with No.3. Just got back from the dr's who has prescribed me Amoxiciliin but also told me that "taking any drugs, particularly this early in pregnancy is not recommended" and "that if we were in America I wouldnt be allowed to prescribe you this!". Basically he's said its up to me whether I take it or not. Has anyone else had to take this during pregnancy, particularly this early and baby been okay? Obviously Id rather not take any medication but it has been prescribed and Im in so much pain, feel like my face is going to explode and he said if I didnt take it, it may take up to two weeks to clear up Help!!!

Yes me, can't remember what stage of pregnancy, I would guess at early 2nd trimester. Baby was fine.

Yup - for a urine infection. Didnt think twice tbh.

I've taken it in the late stages of pregnancy for urine infections that were causing mild contractions. I was never prescribed anything for sinusitis during pregnancy; it took about took weeks to clear up, with just paracetamol.

I ended up having to take it about 4 times during my first pregnancy, including in the first 8 weeks (sinusitus and then later on cystisis), and my DD was born fine and healthy. I fretted lots and did loads of research and was constantly reassured that aoxycillin was safe. Easier said than done I know but try not to worry.

I took it at around 8 weeks as I needed root canal dental work that couldn't wait. I was very paranoid so asked around and looked in to it. I was assured by mulitple people, 2 different docs, 2 dentists, a midwife, a pharmacist and a consultant that it was fine. Slightly neurotic I know but what's the harm in making sure?

yeap 34/35 weeks pregnant have been taking it for last few days due to urine infection and painful bh. double checked it was ok to take and have discovered its more commonly used during pregnancy than most other medications.

forgot to mention i also took it at around 11wks pregnant, all appears ok! i was more worried about the urine infection causing complications than the antibiotics!

I had it for bronchitis in 2nd trimester (along with lots of lemsip). All seemed fine: if you really need it, you need it. I was ill for ages before I went to the docs - I couldn't stand up, and she was quite cross with me for not coming sooner.

Taking it sooner might mean you avoid the need for stronger anti-b's later on? Don't know much about sinusitis, but I avoided anti-b's and got more and more poorly. When I'm not PG I tend to shake things off much quicker.

I took it in 2nd trimester plus other stronger antibiotics when it didn't work. DS born totally healthy.

I had sinusitis in the first trimester and was in AGONY. I tend to suffer with sinuses anyway and early preg flares it up.

I went to Doc who wouldn't give me anything, so waited a few more days then called my own 'proper' Doc, almost begging him for some anti-bs but he wouldn't give me any. He told me there are not really any anti-bs that are effective for sinusues.

He gave me a nasal spray though which got shot of it in about 6 applications tho.

When preg with DS2 my old Doc gave me amox. for an ear infection , 2 courses which didn't work and I ended up in labour feeling like I also had a dagger stuck in the side of my head.

I didn't really have any probs that needed meds with DS3 who was born in 2008, but this time it is harder to get stuff when preg than it was in 2006.

Hope you feel better soon.

I took it in the fourth week for a Urinary Tract Infection, was promised, cross-my-heart-and-hope-to-die promised, that it's safe for pregnant women.
Oh, and I'm in America. So my midwife here in New York City gave it to me, saying it's one of the ones pregnant women can have - and do have - to treat common pregnancy ailments like UTIs.
So I reckon you'll be ok. Hope you feel better soon!

Yes I've taken it twice, first for gum infection when I was 9 weeks. Secondly at 30 weeks for chest infection/swine flu? Just two weeks ago, made me sick to my stomach last time though so I stopped.
