Aura only migraine

Just had my third aura only migraine in less than 24 hours! I haven't had one of these in years. They last about 30 minutes with slowly expanding crescent of zig zag lines that spreads to one side (although the second one seemed to go to both sides). No headache of any significance, nust the aura.

I'm 36 weeks. Had nasty stomach flu that only finished a day or so ago, could that have brought it on?

Should I be worried?? Anyone know what is going on?

i wouldn't worry. i have had these in recent years, and sometimes at the rate of one every 6 months, other times 2 a day. i've never been able to work out a trigger or a pattern. it's rather a relief when they don't turn into painful headaches...

Migraine can get worse in pregnancy due to hormones but I would contact your midwife tomorrow and ask to get your blood pressure and urine checked as a precaution. Visual upset and be one of the signes of developing pre-eclampsia. I have to add that I got migraines that were worse in pregnancy and aura based, with no pre-eclampsia but best to get checked out.

have you been out in the cold today at all? I found aura only migraines were excacerbated by having been out in the cold as well as triggered by hormonal surges

I would echo mears, any "visual disturbances" should be checked out, better to be on the safe side.

Hi there

I suffer from aura only migraines although hardly at all during pregnancy.

I found mine to be most commom around ovulation.

TBH, I don't worry about it. At least it's over and done with relatively quickly and better than having the headache/nausea of a classic migraine.

As the others say though, best to be checked if this has suddenly started happening.

I had these and it was nothing, but agree with the others - any visual disturbance is a sign of pre-eclampsia and you need to get checked out.

It will probably be nothing, but obv better to be on the safe side!

I have been having these as well. I had one last week and 2 yesterday.

bigpreggybelly - What did your mw say if you saw her?

Thanks everyone.

I had another 2 yesterday! Had BP and urine checked. BP only minimally over, not enough to be worried, and I'm seeing MW again on Thurs so it will be checked again then. Urine was fine.

I'm just hoping they go away again in a couple of days. Maybe starting maternity leave is too stressful and has brought them on and I should go back to work!!
