Snowsuits

Hi all

I'm going through the dreaded list of things to buy for a new baby and am getting stuck looking for a snowsuit. Most of the ones I've seen are either cream, or have Winnie the Pooh on, or have ears on, none of which are really my thing...has anyone found a cool snowsuit anywhere and fancy giving me a tip-off?! We're having a girl, but I'm really not fussed what the colour/ design is! (apart from no cream, WTP or ears....)

Thank you!

When is the baby due? I think its some kind of rule that they all have ears

Here I have a Mamas and Papas already and waiting for dc2! Although, I wish I had seen this one as it looks a lot easier to get baby in and out!

Ps, no ears! I too hate ears and Winnie the bloody Pooh.

I have this one

What on earth IS it with ears on hoods? I just want to take him down the shops, not to a bloody fancy dress party!

LondonLottie they are beautiful! Can quite see why you succumbed .

Peppapig - that took me a while - can you tell the old brain is getting a touch soggy! I think one pair of ears is enough for any baby - hopefully as you say she'll arrive with one full set of her own

Mama2moo I think another trip to M&P might be in order - haven't been for ages and must admit I'd kind of forgotten about them - too busy getting sidetracked by lovely unusual websites and shops (with astronomical prices....) - thank you!

TKMaxx usually has some interesting coloured ones - purple, blue, green, red, I've seen lots of nice ones. And MUCH cheaper than the original prices too which is awesome.

And yes, ears, weird. Like Bottom in Midsumer night's dream. ew.

The Jojo polartex fleece ones are amazing. Warm but not too padded and with a double zip so easier to get baby in and out of.

We love them. Funky designs too. Often on ebay.

Depending on when baby is due you may not need one. I bought one for DS (January baby) and actually only used it when we went on holiday to Norway. Used little jackets, blankets, cosytoes etc most of the time and he was never cold.

Hm. I have the same problem. Loads of people recommended that I get a snow suit for baby due on jan 1st but just couldn't find anything I liked. Everything is far too Winnie the Poo or with the dreaded ears....

In the end I went for a sort of very padded babygro from Gap. It's pure cotton and seems to be quite warm in lovely stripes. It isn't as warm as a proper snow suit but oodles warmer than most other things that I've seen and is very cute indeed. Going to keep my beady eye out for a nice snow suit though....will be following the recs on this thread closely.....

Asda have some nice blue/grey stripey snowsuits without ears for boys... as well as the usual teddy themed with ears nmonstrosities...

Polarn o pyret are good for functional children's clothes.

That one is not truly a snow suit, but with a cosy overall on underneath it would be warm enough.

With DD I was lucky to get given the most beautiful snowsuit by a Canadian friend, truly gorgeous, but unfortunately I can't remember what store it was from or if you can get them online. I used it a lot though.

Anyway, was in John Lewis a couple weeks ago and saw some nice light pink/light blue snowsuits with 2 zips at the front, nice and thick, no fluffiness or ears or winnie the pooh. Can't see them on their website but they are in the shop.

Bug in a rug things are much easier than snowsuits as there are no arms to get stuck in, you jsut wrap it round

have bought for about 5 winter babies now, they are fab.

Ooo thank you ladies! Lots to follow up on.

By the way, with the sleeping bag-type things, I assume you can only put the baby into them when they are out of the car seat?? Sorry I have no idea how these things work!

Also good point re whether a snowsuit is even needed: bubs is due in February so if I can't find anything then maybe lots of blankets will be the way to go!

I can recommend this. You can put the car seat straps though it so that you can wrap and unwrap the baby if it gets warm etc and the just have their normal clothes on underneath - so much easier!

I have about 5 snowsuits that are not going to get used as I was so worried about her being too cold! Mine are all 2nd hand but the ones from babbleboom (debenhams I think) and M&P def have no ears.

Pootle, my friend bought one of those as her DS absolutely refused to wear a snowsuit or coat. She swears by them.

Report
Chunkamatic · 10/12/2009 22:56

If this one turns out to be a girl she will be wearing one ofthese to keep her warm - DS has a coat by them and it is lovley stuff, and usually on sale somewhere as it is quite £££ full price.

We had a knitted pram suit for DS when he was tiny by Me Too, it was very colourful and always got lots of compliments. I think it's so nice to see tiny baby's in colours other than beige/cream etc. This one is funky and bright!

This great as can be used as a sling and a car seat wrap.

I also have the pram version in Aubergine, truly gorgeous, I always get loads of comments on it, and so warm we never needed a snow suit.
