Pregnancy

32 weeks and NOT putting on weight - anyone else?

Although everything was fine with the baby at my last check up every time I weigh myself I seem to hover around 11 stone 2 and don't seem to be gaining any weight beyond this, and sometimes weigh less than previously - this has been the case for at least the last 3 weeks or so. Given I'm reading that it's normal to gain around 450g per week at this point this seems slightly worrying. My bump is getting bigger though. Could it just be becasue I seem to be getting full more quickly and am therefore eating a bit less? Anyone else around this stage not gaining weight ?

Hi MoragG,

I'm a couple of weeks ahead of you, and also haven't put on weight in last 3-4 weeks - although my bump seems to be a bit bigger.
If you're eating properly and not missing out on nutrients, I don't think it's a major problem - I know people that actually lost (a little) weight at the same stage of pregnancy, due to feeling full and eating a bit less than earlier on in pregnancy.

Have a quick chat with GP/midwife if you're still concerned? I'm sure they'll put your mind at rest.

i didn't put any weight on at all when pg wih dd2, in fact i lost weight, i was very very sick all the way through

dd2 was born a healthy 7lb 5, no problems

nothing to worry about at all, as long as you feel well in yourself then ignore the scales

Ignore - I haven't put on any weight for about 5 weeks now (am 33 weeks). But I did put on about 22lbs prior to that and am only about 6lbs off the total I put on for my previous pregnancies. I guess it is just the weight gain evening out? I had a scan a few days ago and apparently dd already weighs about 4lbs so it obviously hasn't bothered her either!

Thanks all - think I should maybe just stop weighing myself! I will check with midwife too just to put my mind at rest.

I was the same. Stayed at 11 stone for 4 weeks then suddenly between weeks 33 - 35 I have put on nearly 5lb

I also didn't put on much weight until about 34 weeks (a few pounds). I've made up for it since though, although I'm still quite 'neat' (40+4 today).

I think that the full-fat milk to help the heartburn and the huge tin of Quality Street might have something to do with it though .

I've only weighed myself once (at 30 weeks) and had put on 6lb in total. Given that my fundal measurement and everything else is perfectly normal, I've decided to feel pleased about it rather than worry- and then promptly balloon to size of a house as punishment for smugness, probably...!

ps I honestly think it's because I'm not drinking. I reckon the slimming effect of giving up booze (I probably drank around a bottle of wine a week pre-pregnancy- but that's a whole day's calories!) has balanced out pregnancy weight gain. Also I was on the heavy end of my healthy weight range before I got pregnant, so I suppose I had some reserves and less catching up to do than a thinner woman would have.

Yes, stop weighing yourself - you're just giving yourself something to worry about when you should be taking it easy.

As long as you feel well and are eating well, that's the main thing.

I wouldnt worry at all- i weigh 5 pounds less now (37+4) than i did at booking in (8wks) appointment in may! ive had a growth scan and they say she looks about 7 pounds! so all a bit confusing. However i did have horrendous morning sickness til 20 wks. Everyone is different- i also needed to lose a bit anyway so she probably snacked on my love handles!!!!

Again- if u r eating well and feel good don't worry. baby will get what he/she needs!

My crazy boss at work has told me off for not putting on enough weight. I am slim to begin with and I think she thinks I am a lunatic weight oriented person who is Refusing To Gain Weight because of Vanity - I do not dignify her craziness with a response but I also was mroning sick till 17 weeks and still really struggle to eat at dinnertime. Anyway am 23 weeks and still wearing regular jeans, they are very low rise, and maternity tops, which is what triggered the lecture.LIke the others my fundal measurement is fine and the baby is very healthy, I am in a research study getting extra scans and he looks great. My mother only gained 10 pounds total when pregnant with me.

Absence of weight gain is relatiely normal and don't forget that in other countries apparently you get told off for putting on weight - some v amusing/alarming posts from women in Japan and France in this regard!

tbh i wouldnt worry i lost 4 stone whilst pregnant...dd is 12 weeks old now

i think it was a combination of GD and just feeling so fab and well! i mentioned it when i noticed i was dropping weight at 30 weeks...was sent for GTT and it came back positive... all in all i lost 4 stone in a matter of about 12 weeks!

im still 4 stone lighter than i was before pregnancy and it feels great! im so much fitter etc now...was a whopping 15st 12lb before and now im 11st 7lb...still think something is going on though cos lost 5lbs in 2 days.....
