Pregnancy

Feeling really down.

I am 12 weeks pregnant with number 2. Ds is 3. I have had bad hyperemisis and am on the mend now, but spent 6 weeks in bed and hospital really ill and desperate which was tough going on all of us. As I say I am getting better now I have decent drugs to take, but I am feeling so low.
I haven't been out the house due to being so ill for about 7 weeks. I feel nothing for the baby. I don't even feel pregnant - I feel I have had some dreadful illness. I am so fed up and I don't know how to shake myself out of this.
I want to be happy.
Anyone else been here? How did you help yourself?

You can get Ante-natal depression, can you talk to your midwife about how low you're feeling? Any friends or family you can talk to - it's good to talk.
Don't be too hard on yourself though. Having been that poorly you will be low on all vitamins etc that you need to function let alone feel happy. Hopefully as you build yourself up - plenty of fruit, veg and chocolate! You will start to feel better and have more energy, I know there isn't much sunshine at the moment but even being out in the fresh air will help. As your baby grows you will start to feel more for it and hopefully the hyperemisis will just be a dark distant memory.
Really hope you start to feel better soon.

(I had regular depression a few years ago and they were a few tips my therapist gave me)

Sorry to hear you have been so ill. I know from experience how awful Hyperemisis is and how weak and low it can make you feel.

I suffered from about 6 to 18 weeks - currently 26 weeks and it has more or less gone. You will start to feel better - and happier - but it make take a few more weeks.

As sjbj says, try to build yourself up and if you are still feeling weak, ask your doctor for an iron test, as it is quite possible you have used up all your reserves and are anemic.

Try to get out a little bit. Walking might be too hard, but if you can drive without being sick, make a little trip to the shops or to see a friend.

Gradually you will start to feel better and hopefully you will begin to feel happier about your pregnancy. Take care of yourself.

Thanks for your reply.
Yes, I am on antidepressants long term anyway. My mw is not a huge help really tbh.
I know I'll probably feel better once I am out and about again. Haven't been well enough to move for ages. Just really frustrated at life atm.

x post. Thanks to you too summer. Nice to hear about recovery. I am hoping to get to the shop on Saturday - not very exciting I know, but anything is fun after being holed up for ages. I tried last week but ended up feeling so grim I had to sit in the car while ds and sh went in. Then went to bed when I got home.

Oh, and luckily my iron levels are okay. GOd knows how. Must have been super-high before!
