Panic! Brie AND soft ice-cream!

In same meal
I'm nearly 36 weeks and incredibly anxious, after 3 miscarriages; we had dinner out today and without thinking I had a main course which contained Brie, and then tucked into pud with the white soft ice cream, thinking we might not get to do this too often soon - now I'm competely freaked.
It was a national chain, not an artisan bistro-type place, but I don't know if that makes a difference.
I'm so scared

Don't panic. Brie and soft ice cream are on the list because it is possible that you could get listeria from them. It is by no means guaranteed.

I've eaten tonnes of brie and soft ice cream in my life and they have never made me ill. The chances that you'll get unlucky just this once are very, very small.

I'm sure you and baby will be just fine

If the Brie was cooked that will have killed any bugs too

Not sleeping isn't going to help you or Bubs either is it though. The best thing you can do is try to stay calm and get a good nights sleep.

I know how worrying it can all be, I'm 27 weeks pregnant with DC2 right now (and miscarried in between ), and we all slip up sometimes. Soft ice cream has been a real pain this pregnancy. DS loves it but hates when the cone drips and cries if I won't lick the sides to clean up the melty ice cream!! DD is currently kicking me to bits so I know she's OK. Plus, at 36 weeks, your baby is all finished and just putting on weight ready to face the world so you'd be hard pressed to do any damage.

Just think of all the things our parents ate and drank without knowing the risks and we're all OK. You've been so careful up until now, I'm sure this little slip won't do any harm.

I'm off to bed now but I hope you manage to get some sleep. Take care

Hu, I didn't even remember you weren't supposed to eat Brie and soft ice cream, and have happily been eating both. 35 weeks now. Do you notice when you have Listeria? I've also eaten raw cookie dough. All in much moderation though. I think I fainlty remember not doing all this the first time and thinking it was silly to cut out all foods our pregnant parents never thought about twice. Hm. Freaks me out that you are freaked out.

Eek - what's wrong with soft ice cream? I thought it was just the home-made stuff you had to avoid, in case it contained raw eggs. The Mr Whippy stuff is just reconstituted powder.

Milk is a risk as bugs grow very quickly in it, hence all the rules around bottle making (and the milk there is just reconstituted powder too). Mr Whippy type ice cream could have been going round and round in one of those, often badly cleaned, machines for hours and hours if not longer so it's recommended you stay away from it.

But as I sad last night, it's a risk not a definite and I've never been ill from ice cream even though I love a 99

Don't worry about the brie, purpledub, as it was cooked - you can cross that one off your list!

Soft ice-cream is one of those 'prob best to avoid' foods, but I don't know anyone to have EVER been ill because of it, so the chances of you getting ill are very, very remote. And as GoldenSnitch says, your baby is fully developed now and just putting on fat.

Try not to worry, and good luck!
