Hello everyone!
Was just wondering how far gone you were when you felt the need to get into maternity clothes?
I'm only 5/6 weeks i think and my trousers are feeling a little tight! DH thinks i've just been eating to much, could i need the maternity jeans already?????

I found the early stages really uncomfortable with bloating . Found I bought a cheap pair of jeans from Asda size up and lived in these for first 3 - 4mths.
Looser clothes for work and PJs as soon as I got home.

Proper maternity wear started at about 4-5mths.

That was 2nd pg. First time didn't start needing to wear bigger clothes till about 5-6mths

Hi April and congrautlations! Get a bump band - they allow you to stay in your normal trousers a bit longer, before you have to graduate to maternity wear at about 4+ months!

Hi, I am 21 weeks and only just buying a few maternity things now, apart from bras which I did at about 12 weeks. If you find yourself with new new boobs quite early on you'll feel really uncomfortable in your old bras and just want to go without - a great compromise at your stage is to get bra extenders. I got mine from JoJo Maman bebe, about £3 for a pack of 4, they fit seamlessly onto your bra and work a treat.

But I did find in the early weeks that I just somehow felt uncomfortable in my normal clothes and wanted to slob about in comfy things, especially for my lower half - I didn't actually need to size-wise though. I can still wear my normal jeans with the top button open now, haven't got a bump band, I just wear a loose top and let it all hang out!

Went shopping at the weekend for my first maternity purchases - oh my god, haven't worn leggings since about 1993 - now I don't want to take them off!

I doubt you've got a bump yet, but I can sympathise with that bloaty tummy feeling - there's a lot going on in there at this stage. Good luck

I'm 7 weeks pg with DC3 and I'm feeling the same atm. Everything is too tight, so I went and bought a pair of jeans a size bigger, but they are too big and keep falling down. I'm trying to resist the need to go and buy anything yet as it's early days and I'm a bit superstitious but I don't think it is going to be too long!

Im 7 weeks with Number 2 and started wearing my Maternity trousers at about 5.5 weeks! Everything else was just too tight.

Number 1 I think it was about 12 weeks that things started getting snug!

I am 21 weeks and huge (first one!) I was in mat clothes by 12 weeks, although I am only now in almost exclusively maternity clothes. I bought my first mat clothes at about 8 weeks as I couldn't stand the tight feeling. and everything seems to cut into me.

I guess everyone is different, but I have put on a bit of weight as well which is what has made everything so snug!

Apparently all kinds of things can affect bump size - height, muscle tone, bloating. I'm 3 months with baby no.2, but baby no.1 is only a year old. I already look like I did at about 5 months first time around...

You might want to think about buying some jeans one size up from your normal size. These will come in handy post birth as it'll take a little time for your tummy to shrink and there's nothing as depressing as being in maternity jeans 3 months after giving birth! I now have jeans in size 12, 14 and 16! Uniglo does some good deals if that helps.

Oh and John Lewis (haberdashy) has things known as button extenders that can help you get a few more weeks out your regular trousers.

Thanks everyone for your help!
I think i was having a bad bloating day! Also the trousers i had on have always been snug
Have now got a bigger pair of jeans but by the evening i need PJs!
Fingers crossed the next 6 weeks fly by and scan goes well, then i can tell the world and look as fat as i like!

Me too! Now 8 weeks pregnant with dc3, ok in the morning and can fit into my fave size 8 skinny jeans, but gradually over the day get more and more uncomfortable! So ditched them last week when I managed to pick up a pair of next maternity jeans from a carboot sale with the pockets that are stretchy! Super comfy not been out of them and only cost £1 ! I might not have a bump yet , but it's the bloaty thing that I think forces us to reach for those forgiving waistbands! It's all about comfort, so if your uncomfortable don't feel that you can't or shouldn't wear maternity stuff yet just think of it as getting your wear out of it!!!!

Hi,A great tip if you are trying to save money is to wear your normal jeans (if they still fit round the thighs) and put a hair bobble throught the loop and button . .then you can leave them open without them falling down, just put a bump band over the top so you dont see the gap. Another great buy for me was a pack of 2 long sleeved cotton plain tops, i black and 1 white (think they were £12 from New Look maternity) they are quite long and cover the button area of your jeans, I just wear them under my old tops and t shirts etc and it means you can get more wear out of your old tops that are maybe statrting to ride up. Ebay also does bundles of maternity clothes that you can bid for all in the same size, I know a friend who didi that and got loads of realy good stuff for £30!
