I think I am pregnant (late today). After a previous false alarm, I've not wanted to put my life on hold, so, erm, have been eating what I like and drinking most every night (plus my body weight in red wine on Saturday) - not to mention 6 cups of tea a day. On the plus side: no cigarettes, and have been taking folic acid.

I know there must be others out there who've done this too - and if so, how did it pan out for you? Any advice? Or advice from those who were TTC - did you absolutely cut out all the bad stuff in the two weeks after ov? Have heard that for the first two weeks the embryo feeds from the egg sack so is it more protected. Argh, despite being mid 30s, am clearly clueless. Feedback much appreciated!

Zumm....am in exactly the same boat! Period 1 day late - am off to wee on a stick after work - and have been throwing wine down my neck for weeks with wild abandon. Am now beside myself!

stop worrying

  1. you might not even be pg
  2. even if you are, you will be fine and so will the baby

do a test and find out, then think about what to eat

HI girls i was on holiday before i found out i was pregnant so lots of wine and yummy food that i should have avoided. You can't ut your life on hold just in case you are pregnant.

I was the same when i was pregnant with dd and she is now nearly two - born a big healthy 10lbs 13 so the few glasses of wine at the start didn't do her any harm lol.

Don't stress all will be fine!!!

about 99.9% of conceptions are as a result of alcohol

don't worry about what you have done, but now you think you may be pregnant act like it, in terms of stoppping drinking etc

Thanks for the advice, all.

Post-work stick-weeing-on session resulted in a BFN. Am perplexed by the whole situation, so will give it another whirl first thing tomorrow and see what sayeth the stick.

Am sipping water in a saintly manner and cramming fistfuls of Pregnacare vitamins into my mouth, just in case. Let me know how you get on, zumm!

Armi did you test again this a.m.? Also, remember that a lot of false positives are possible this early on.

As for me, blinkin nora etc, is BFP....

So now I really need to stop the drinking. Ruby & bump thanks also for your wisdom... Gawd. Shock. etc.

Well, at least I got my fix of bad food seeing as somewhat saintly behaviour now needed.

Armi pl keep in touch if any change of news!

Ruby - ta! Now to how to keep it a secret for 3 months...? had wondered why I'd put on about half a stone in 2 weeks (up to 8 stone) so noticeable on me.

Congratulations zumm!
I found out I was pregnant with DS (now aged 2) two days after Christmas. I'd been smoking up until about the 20th December and drank enough to sink a battleship that Christmas - champagne, gin, wine, brandy, liqueurs, you name it. I then didn't drink at all until I was 5 months pregnant and from then until DS was born I had a glass or two of wine a week.

DS was born utterly healthy and is now bouncing around like a chinchilla on speed. I'm now pregnant with number 2 and had been on holiday the week before I found out I was pregnant, so again had been boozing rather a lot (not smoking though). Am sure DC2 will be fine as well - a few boozes in early pregnancy is very different from getting hammered for the entire 9 months, which is (according to doctors I've spoken to) what is generally required to cause problems / fetal alcohol syndrome in the baby.

I wouldn't worry at all about what you've been doing - just enjoy the memories!! Hope you stay well and good luck with your pregnancy.

DH and I went on a complete bender (obscene amounts of brandy as were invited on board a navy ship...) and I was so green the following day at work that I spent most of the day with my head in the toilet. Shortly afterwards I got the BFP and realised that the bender had been after I'd conceived. DD is now 6 months and seems to be in fine shape with no problems whatsoever....

Congratulations, zumm!!! That's fantastic news!

Still compulsively peeing on sticks this end - all negative. Still no sign of period so will leave it a few more days before testing again. If I can resist the temptation!

When I was 5 weeks PG with my DS I drank so much gin and red wine that I fell off my friend's patio and bruised myself spectacularly all down one side.
DS is now 5 years old, healthy and perfectly NT - advanced, even.
DOn't let people browbeat you over your choices, there are slight risks associated with consuming certain things in pregnancy but there are no guarantees whatever you do. Best of luck.

Did my pregnancy test with a stonking hangover after a night on the G&T with an old mate. Was pretty convinced (p until the 2 lines) that I wasn't pregnant this cycle..

I wouldn't mind the false alarm so much if I hadn't convinced myself I was on the brink of having an excellent excuse to wear clothing with elasticated waistbands. Was sooo looking forward to being able to walk around letting my stomach stick out instead of spending all day sucking it in.

I found out I was pg about three or four weeks in. I had been smoking about 10 a day and had been utterly legless twice. Apparently this is nothing to worry about but I guess time will tell... Oh, and NO ONE is going to tell me I can't eat rare steak....wipes blood off chin....

Hi everyone!
I fell pregnant in March this year, (we weren't trying, thought we were being careful so came as abit of a shock!) Didn't find out until I was about 7wks I guess (periods irregular) and had been hammering the drinks with friends/family over Easter, staying at friends etc. Anyway, found out was pregnant on the Monday (was bleeding lightly,) and miscarried on the Friday. I of course blamed it on the drink though could've been many reasons though the boozing can't have helped!
Since then my husband and I decided to start trying for baby properly. Like alot of you I didn't put my life on hold but did cut back abit on the wine (though not completely)Turned out I fell preg again straight away but quite inconveniently my period would've been due right in the middle of an all-inclusive holiday!! V proud of myself though cos as I had an inkling, I took two preg tests to do 4 days early and only had a couple of glasses wine before I knew! Anyway, test positive so then on to non-alcoholic cocktails with the kids ! Had a further all-inclusive to get thru with my husband a mth later but hey ho, (all be worth it in the end!)
Personally, I think, as long as you're in tune with your cycle and when trying to get pg you test early, what you ate or drank before you know won't normally do you any harm and the odd glass of wine after 1st trimester wouldn't usually be an issue. (all about common sense I reckon!) gd luck girls! xx
