baby hiccups

how often do you feel your baby hiccuping (if indeed you do feel it!)?

Mine seems to have about 2-3 bouts a day (since 34 weeks), and my DP is really worried that there is something wrong with the baby. I just hate the feeling of baby hiccuping, and wish I could do something to stop it, but obviously that's not an option.

anyone got any idea of what is 'normal'/'abnormal' here?

Both my dc's were hiccup-y from 30 weeks. Often several times a day and while squashing my bladder . I'm sure its fine, its just very annoying.

seemed to be almost constant from about 25 weeks. Loads of fun when DD's foot was wedged in my ribs

I found rubbing her back helped (luckily she was the right way round) I think it helped.

Hey arolf,

I'm having twins, and they each have hiccups about 5 or 6 times a day. Sometimes at the same time.

It's supposed to be a good sign - means they are 'practicing' their breathing (according to MW ).....

My brother had hiccups as he was born!

I'm 28+3 with my first, and baby hasn't had any hiccups (from what I can tell, going on the descriptions I've read of it feeling on here) - should I be concerned..?

cool, am glad it's not just me I shall try and rub my bump to soothe him, but as he's currently back to back, maybe I should rub my own back?!

ErikaMaye - I didn't really feel hiccups until 34 weeks or so (also my first) - and not all babies do get hiccups in utero apparently!

Okay thanks breathes out I seem to spend the majority of my time panicking about him already, guess its preperation for the next 30+ years!!!

Maybe try rubbing your bump in a circle? If he's really active, especially when I'm trying to sleep, it calms him down

I am 28 weeks and baby has been having bouts of hiccups about 2 -3 times a day for the last 3 weeks. I was worried as well, in fact am reassured to read this thread! MW said it was good as well, but I still felt it hiccuped a lot...

Erika I wouldn't worry! As others have said, some probably hiccup from later/earlier on. Also, at first it felt v subtle - am not sure I would have even noticed it but something in me made me think, 'hmmm'!
