Pregnancy

Not cramps but constantly sore tummy

I'm about 6 weeks pregnant and have been feeling really queasy. I can cope with the feeling sick all the time but finding the sore tummy harder to cope with. My stomach feels like its constantly bloated and is really sore, not crampy more like a stomach ache. I can compare it to when I've had sickness bugs for example. Seems to get better when I eat but I can't spend the whole day constantly stuffing my face! I didn't suffer from this at all with my first pregnancy though I keep telling myself every pregnancy is different. Any tips on what I can do to relieve the symptons other than eating all day

Could you be constipated? That could be causing the pain. It is common in early pregnancy.

Not constipated no! Didn't have this at all when pregnant with dd so finding it all a bit strange. Guess I'll have to find some healthy food to eat so I can keep stuffing my face without piling on the pounds so early.

Hi englebart, just seeing if you found a solution to this problem or if it stopped? I am 6+1 and have been suffering a sore tummy since late last week. It sounds the same as you - different to stretching crampy pains (which I had a few weeks ago), I could compare it to when I've had tummy bugs. I also feel very bloated and gassy, no constipation but maybe a little less frequent than before pg (sorry I share far TMI on MN!!).

Initially I thought it must just be due to prgesterone slowing digestion down, which I guess it might, but it does feel quite painful at times, and I seem to have some lower back pain too, on and off.

I'm starting to feel a bit worried, so any input appreciated! There's been no blood or spotting.

Hi mummytoeli, thanks. You're right, it does make me feel better just knowing I'm not the only one (especially as we're both 6 weeks).

I'm off to the docs in a few hours (live in Australia), so I'll let you know the verdict.

Hello,

Just an update. Doctor was slightly concerned, possible risk of it being ectopic, etc. so sent me for a scan.

Scan revealed everything was in the right place, so cause of pain must just be strange bowels.... have been told to take high fibre stuff called Nulax everyday from now on.

Pepperonipizza, glad to hear that things seem to be okay.

I had constant pain or discomfort in my stomach & abdomen throughout the first trimester - constipation, the opposite problem (sorry if too much info), griping pains, cramping, dull aches and just general discomfort of all sorts. I remember someone asking me if I'd felt the baby move yet, and telling them that even if I had had 'fluttering' or 'gas' type movements, I wouldn't have been able to tell if it was him as I had some sort of odd/unpleasant sensation or pain in my abdomen for about 90% of my waking hours.

It all cleared up after about 16 weeks or so, though, and I am currently 24 weeks with a baby who seems perfectly happy, healthy and very active (he's kicking as I type) and I rarely get discomfort now, except for occasional bloating / wind. So don't worry even if it continues for a good while yet.

Thanks Angel. That sounds really similar to me. How did you cope with it though? It has been a real struggle at work the past few days, I am spending A LOT of time on the toilet!!

Hope this laxitive stuff the doc prescribed helps, not looking forward to another 10 weeks of it!!

Well I'm 13 weeks now and still have stomach ache, its not all the time, usually in the morning and worse at night. I have noticed it gets worse if I dont eat (so have been constantly eating!) and then worse a couple of hours after I have eaten (can't win!). I've had my 12 week scan and everything was absolutely normal so that was reassuring. I've resigned myself to thinking this is a normal pregnancy sympton and keep hoping it will improve....
