Can anyone give me advice on BP??

Hello

I am 33 wks PG. Been ill for weeks and weeks with just a general cold/virus. I rang the hospital to talk to a MW as I had been feeling very dizzy and lightheaded and she said to get my MW to check my BP at nect appoint as I might have low BP which you canget in 3rd trimester. Also said to ask her to do FBC Bloods to check for anemia.

Anyway - had stupid horribl midwife who told me some stupid things like I won't be able to have my planned section if I go into labour etc ( I started a thread about this the other day ) Was so annoyed I forgot to insist on the blood and she said my BP was fine.

I checked my notes yesterday and it was 100/70. Normally my BP is 120/80 or occasionally 130/80.

I looked up the normal ranges on tinternet and it said Low BP is 90/60 but any significant change can be classed as low.

Any advice? Is this much of a drop?

I went really pale last night when I was just sat down and thought I was going to faint. I have also not put on any weight for 2 wks and have lost half a stone.

Any advice welcome

Hi Gillyan, textbook BP os 120/80, but 100/70 is not that low and I wouldn't have thought it is that significant a drop in terms of the measurement. However, people's BP is often raised when they're actually having it measured (white coat / uniform induced stress!) so it may be that you have experiencing lower BP at times when you feel faint. Also if you don't want to see the midwife again, why not make an appointment with your GP who can do the bloods for anaemia, check your BP again and maybe more sympathetic / helpful?

Hi Gillyan, no advice sorry but will be watching this thread with interest as you have described exactly what's happening to me at 26 weeks. Seeing the midwife tomorrow for bloods for anaemia as i nearly fainted at work yesterday.

It's a bore to feel so weak and crap all the time!

Thanks guys.

I ended up ringing the hospital this morning and spoke to one of my lovely MW's.

She said bottom BP is fine, any lower and wouldn't be. She said to make an emergency appoint at docs today to have an MOT done, BP, FBC and possible stool sample as I have had diareha for 6 wks.

She said as baby is moving it's more a GP check than maternity which I agreed with.

She was lovely and told me the MW who said I couldn't have a section early was talking rubbish!
