Its just a query, as how do you know if its extra watery discharge- wee or waters??? I'm pg with no. 3- but DC1, my waters gushed- like victoria falls, DC2 didn't go at all so if its a gentle trickle then how do you distinguish????? I'm 33weeks xx

I remember reading somewhere that amniotic fluid does not smell at all, I think this was on MN somewhere with a poster worried about her new carpet!

With DD my waters were very trickly, started after contractions had been going on for 15 mins or so. I knew it wasn't wee as it wasn't stopped by contracting my pelvic floor...though this may be more of an indication of the poor state of my pelvic floor!

It does smell - it's a very distinctive smell. Not unpleasant or like wee!

But last time I smelt it was 17 years ago so can't really remember it enough to describe it.

yes it does smell...slightly sweet....and a week later the carpet was still smelling sickly sweet...a very distinctive smell, very different from wee!

It's meant to smell slightly sweet, whereas urine smells more of urine .

Couldn't say I noticed though as mine gushed with DS.

If you ask your midwife they can describe it to you. I seem to remember them saying something about soaking X number of pantyliners within a time limit. Also, if it's your waters it will keep trickling - wee/discharge is just a trickle for a minute or so. If it's trickling for longer than 5 minutes, get thee to the hospital

Oh please please don't listen to the panty liner criteria! I did and it turned out later to have been a leak and DS had to be delivered at 38 weeks due to having almost no amniotic fluid.

Others are right though -- it doesn't smell like wee...

Smells like semen - it really really does - I couldn't believe it but other people have agreed with me since!

Sorry - just thought I remembered something about it, obviously not helpful

it should not smell bad and should be clear i think.. anything that makes you worry is worth a phone call to delivery suite..

Lots of people do say that it smells sweet or like spunk!

If you are worried then go to labour ward and they can check.

Better to be checked Effielou, that's what they're there for .

Effielou, I posted similar the other week but I am only 27 weeks. I think mine must be a mixture of wee and mucous . I had my urine checked last week at my mw appointment, would it show in that if waters were trickling?

suwoo Hi Hun. I'm not sure whether it would show up in the wee-- but I think theres a different pH to discharge!! but really not sure- I had a internal and a swab taken to see if there is an infection!!

but like me eventually I got checked and it made me feel much better although a bit silly.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!! xx
