Pelvic pain - is this normal?

Hey,

I am supposed to be away for a nice weekend in a cottage.. but i couldn't face going because i am in soo much pain.
I have been having little sudden pains and dull aches in my pubic bone. I mentioned it at my 20 week scan and she said it was pretty normal - although i can't remember having anything like this in my first pg. Pains were only when i was standing up or getting in and out of bath.

Last night i was walking to my mums with ds 16 months, who had his wellies on and was splashing in all the puddles, with me bending down to hold his hand. Suddenly i couldn't move, i couldn't straighten up or take another step, i had to limp to the fence and just stand there (looking a bit mental no doubt) It took me about 15 minutes to walk the rest of the 2 minute journey, limping all the way. I was in agony the rest of the night.
Today it is the same, i am just sitting on the sofa, i couldn't even lift ds into his high chair. I HAD to lift him out of the cot, but it was agony.

So pil are away to the cottage
Is this just normal preg pains? I am working on Monday and stand all day, with two 15 minute breaks, should it have passed by then?
I am 22 weeks btw.

Hi,

Contact your local maternity unit and see if you can see a physio. In my area there was a self referal system while pregnant and 6 wks post birth. Could be a trapped nerve.

Could be SPD. I had this andd Im sorry to tell you that the heavier the baby gets the worse it gets. I may be wrong but this is what it sounds like. I would go and see your gp andd see if they can give you support belts and physio referral. Hope I am wrong and it gets better soon.

Does it feel like someone kicked you in the crotch? Are you getting pain in your very lower back (basically on your bum)? Does it hurt when you go up and down the stairs?

SPD is a possibility. . . google The Pelvic Partnership if any of the above sounds like you.

It feels like the bone in my fanjo has broke, right up the middle and the left side feels like it is rubbing or something. The bottom of my back and my left hip feel numb, like a dull bruise pain.
Yeah stairs are agony, i have to take one at a time, which is still agony.
Ahh i will google that, thank you. My next appointment isn't until 28 weeks, so i will need to make one.

Yep, definitely sounds like Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction!

The Pelvic Partnership website will have lots of information on how to do things with less pain, and they've got information for partners/family on what you can/cannot do. You'll really have to cut back on lifting, though I'm sure it's hard with a toddler!

Would go straight to the GP and ask for a referral to an obstetric physio. I've just been to the 'pelvic girdle pain group' at my local hospital. Some ladies on here will also recommend finding an osteopath, which I'm on the verge of doing.

The main thing is rest, take it easy, don't make it worse, and educate yourself about it---it can affect the positions you give birth in.

Good luck!

On the stairs, go sideways one at a time and try to support some of your weight on the bannister/wall. I was doing one at a time still facing front until I was told at the PGP group that sideways is better!
