Posting on behalf of my sister. She is 7 months pregnant & suffering quite painful braxton hics.

She says they feel like uncomfortable period type pains. Is this normal at this stage of pregnancy? I can't remember at what stage they became uncomfortable when I was pregnant as my youngest is 6 now & my memory of all this has faded.

I can't remember how many weeks they started at for me, but it was a lot less than 7 months. Sorry, not very helpful..

I do remember though that they can be a lot worse if you're a bit dehydrated. So tell your sister to have a big glass of water and see if it helps

I was going to say watch the dehydration. My daughter is 13, so like you it's been a really long time, but I was around 7 1/2 months and in Arizona in the summer and ended up in the hospital to be monitored for a day becasue of it. She really just needs to watch for spotting....then definitely call the dr, but she can always call anyhow just to be on the safe side!

Thank you for the reassurance. I remember getting uncomfortable braxton hics but just don't remember at what stage they started. She says they have been like this for the last 48 hours.

in this pg I have been having BH from about 10/11 weeks is (now 28+4) I did have a period (21 weeks) of painful (very similar to contractions) BH. I rang the MW and she told me to go into the maternity home. I had a water and bowel infection which had started off early labor.

If the water doesn't do the trick and your sister is still getting painful BH's then a call to her MW would help put her mind at ease.

My sister has just looked at this thread for herself & says that she did drink less than normal yesterday so is going to get lots of fluid down her & prepare herself for a night on the toilet!

I did mention that she could maybe call her midwife if still worried tomorrow.

As a vetran of premature labour/threatened premature labour the advice that was give to me was that if I had more than 4 contractons in an hour I should call maternity for advice/monitoring.

But yes echo everything that has been said. Keep hydrated and keep bladder empty(ish)
