Hiya im feeling abit confused!!

I am 36+4 weeks pregnant, i had a rise in my bp 3 weeks ago which wasnt too high but midwife sed had risen from my usual, the week later it went up a bit more and i had glu in my urine, last week it came down abit but still higher than what it has been prev.
I told midwife i had been getting headaches over past few weeks and she sed to keep an eye on headaches and any visual disturbances.

Now past 2 days iv had headaches again i took paracetamol yesterday and it didnt shift i took another 2 4 hrs later and it did eventually go!! But today iv woke up wid real bad head again, my mam also noticed my feet looked a bit puffy yesterday. So i have rang midwife and she has sed shes gonna try aand fit me in this afternoon at the day ward to be monitored and to be checked.
I thought she wud av just advised me and now im worried i go up and im worrying over nnothing!!! Has anyone else experienced these symptoms or know what cud be causing it obv i wanna know everything is okay but just scared if im worrying over nothing. This is my first baby xxx

Try not to worry too much easier said than done but the worry-won't help the bp!!

You did the right thing in contacting your midwife and hopefully they will get you in soon.

Just relax and have a cuppa and put your feet up-- if you haven't heard anything in a couple of hours or call the delivery suite for advice.

Sorry its not much help-- but let us know how you go xxxx lots of love xxxx

Its always best to get checked out with my 2nd I nearly booked a bed, as I was up so much!!
If it is something to worry about- then the earlier you check it out the better for you and baby!!

The midwives are paid and there to check out worries and no one should make you feel silly- we do that toy ourselves, without others help!!

The midwives have also seen everything before-- so its nothing!!

They would rather have you checked now- than checked when there is a serious problem- if that makes sense!!

Take it easy and fingers crossed xx lots of love xx

Please don't feel stupid....get checked out at 3, it will put your mind at rest.

With my first pregnancy I was very sick all the way through with constant headaches and protien in the urine, however my midwife at that time wasn't worried because I wasn't swelling up, I got a second opinion at 35 weeks as I had had enough and was told to go into hospital to be monitored. I had my baby that night, due to pre-eclampsia she was an emcs, so my advice really is follow your instincts it's your body!

I don't mean to scare you just make you aware. Take care and have a good appointment, also ask to hear babys heartbeat as that will help your mind.x

Count your movements as the midwife will want to know how many you have had and if there is any change.

Keep an eye on ANY changes - whether more OR less movements.

Shell - it sounds as if you might have pre-eclampsia, but you should be really pleased that youu've spoken to them, and got an appt. Also, in your favour is the fact that you are already in your 37th week. Even if they think you need to have the baby sooner rather than later, you are already practically full term (anything over 37 weeks counts as full term)...

So please just take advantage of the appt, and let us know how you get on!

I had DS at 38 weeks for the same reasons, and it was a "normal" delivery, so it doesn't necessarily mean it will all get very dramatic!

Good luck.

Shell you did right by contacting the midwifes. I had raised blood pressure, headache and protein in my urine no swelling and I had pre eclampsia.

I dont want to worry you but you are better safe than sorry. I was full term so they induced me that is the only way to stop pre eclampsia.

Im sure you will be fine xx

I dont want to scare you but dont disregard it in case it is. My bp kept going up and down too. The best thing is to see what happens when you have your appointment later.

Dont get yourself in a pickle as you might go into labour . Even if you do have it you will be fine look on my profile the evidence is on there .

Why do you have to wait until 3pm?

I would be going to hospital now.

I thought pre-eclampsia too.

Well, it's a mixture of symptoms really. This is what they did with me:

1 - They will monitor the baby for a good while - maybe half an hour? - just to check that it's heart rate is doing normal things.

2 - They will take your blood pressure regularly, maybe every 15/30 minutes for an hour or maybe two.

3 - They may do a blood test

4 - They will check urine for protein (again!)... and if they're worried they might admit you for 24 hours to do a "24 hour urinaylsis" which means you get stuck on a ward for overnight and every tiem you pee it has to be collected in a big bottle, so they can see your average protein over that time, just to check that it's not as a result of a particular meal or something.

5 - They may check your reflexes (hammer on the knees/ankles etc) as very brisk reflexes can be a sign...

6 - Ask you about your headaches/any visual symptoms - blurring, starts/spots in front of your eyes etc etc. They will look at your puffy feet (and see if they agree with your mum!).

7 - Might send you for an ultrasound just to see if the baby seems to be the right size for dates.

8 - They may prescribe some methyldopa (that's the drug name, it might have a different pharmacy name) to lower your BP for a week or two, but it will depend on your circumstances.

They may well discuss doing an induction/c-section with you. Ask as many questions as you can, and then ask again when you've had a chance to think about things. If they just talk about c-section, ask them if an induction would be possible. They will give you very clear reasons why this would be/not be a good idea. But this is further down the line, just thought I'd put everything on here, in case you ahve a busy afternoon with them!

I was very very lucky where I was, so maybe make a list of these checks and if they seem to be doing only one or two things, ask them about the rest. They might think you're a pain, but this is you and your baby we're talking about! An informed mother is a safe mother I think.......and they should be able to reason why they're not doing some of the tests if they don't htink they're necessary.

Make sure you have your notes/they have them. They need to see the pattern/amount your bp has changed. Maybe take a slightly bigger handbag with a spare pair of knickers/a toothbrush, just in case they want to admit you - I doubt you need your hospital bag just yet though

I'm on my way to bed now, in Oz, but will look out fo your in the morning!

Oh, and despite all this - please don't worry, they take this very seriously, and will not let you get ill!

OK, as if I haven't said enough already, just because you didn't have protein once, doesn't mean it's not there now, and all the symptoms can come in any order.

You can have protein and headaches
You can have blurred vision and high bp

it really doesn't matter. It's good they're putting you on a day ward for monitoring. AT the end of it, you'll have an answer one way or another.

Oh, and please take it seriously - in retrospect I was completely daft - the day I was finally admitted for an induction I'd pissed around with a reflexology appt. and stuff in the morning on my way there... if only I'd known :-)
