I had my appendix removed when 31 weeks pg with DD2. She's now sitting on my lap, a large 3yo with no problems (other than her attitude ). She was born at term, the recovery was fairly uncomfortable. The worst thing that could have happened to us was that she would have been born at 31 weeks, so it wasn't too bad a risk. How pg is your SIL?

Hope your SIL's doing OK.

Thanks. Its actually a cyst now.. they thought it was her appendix when she was admitted. She is 6m preg.

The further on her pg is, the better. Are they going to operate or wait till after the baby is born? It's horribly scary when something like this happens.

oh really? Well thats good... I suppose. The consultant is speaking to her this evening app and will then decide what to do. She is in agony though.[SAD]

Well, I'm no expert (only going on what I was told at the time) but the more formed the baby is, the less chance there is that any drugs could affect the baby's development. In my case, the baby was fully formed and at the putting on weight stage, so yes, she would have been premature and struggled with breathing etc but that would have been all we had to deal with.

I had a general anaesthetic, antibiotics for the infection and shedloads of painkillers and these did not affect DD2 in any way. They kept me in for 5 days, monitoring every day to make sure there were no contractions starting up. Then I was home but needed someone with me 24 hours a day at the start (Mum came and stayed) as it was difficult to move on my own. But, on a very trivial note, I have a bloody enormous scar as the consultant had no idea where my appendix actually was......

Any news on how your SIL got on with the consultant last night, KentDee?
