Pregnancy

Spotty DD

About to see the GP for a diagnosis but DD2 woke up with spots today - either chicken pox or measles, both of which are going around at the moment. She has had the pox as a baby but I suspect not quite enough to get immunity. Have Googled to check implications for me as I am 35.5 weeks pregnant with DC4, but wanted to get some reassurance to stop me worrying. Think I had the pox and measles as a child but how would I know if this was enough to give me immunity? Will it be a case of asking the GP to confirm this for me?

Many thanks for any advice.

This is going to happen so much more often thanks to the MMR scare, and its consequence in terms of the health of unborn children was never adequately highlighted in the media if you ask me, maybe if it had been uptake levels of the vaccine wouldn't have fallen to such frightening levels for the general population.
I had a scare with Chickenpox early on in this pregnancy as I only had it mildly as a kid, but thankfully we're both okay. Those diseases are dreadful for little ones, unborn children and adults, so I really hope you're okay too. If it helps I think you might be so far along there is a limit to any risk for the baby but the doc will have to tell you more. Also if you have sufficient immunity from childhood jnr will be just fine, and they can test that quickly with a blood test.
In the meantime good luck playing nursemaid to an unhappy little one when you're probably pretty tired yourself.
Jellybean will be getting every single jab going when he arrives!!

If she has had chicken pox as a baby she should still be immune, but why would she have measles - haven't you had her vaccinated against it? If you have had them both you should be ok also.

Very sensible poppet45

Actually her DD2 might not have been old enough to have the MMR yet...

Well, poppet, not sure how the MMR would have helped if it is chickpox......

and we don't know how old the DD is....and she may well have had the jab, you can still get measles after the MMR...

If you have had measles already, you have lifelong immunity.

Umm funnily enough the MMR comment was in relation to the measles not chickenpox... unless you can see a C in the abbreviation.
