placenta movement between 32 and 36 weeks?

hello,

i posted at 20 weeks when my placenta was fully covering the os. i've just been re-scanned (32 weeks) and although it hasn't moved by much, it has moved a bit: is now 0.8cm away from internal os.

does anyone know the likelihood of it moving any further before 36 weeks, and indeed how far away it has to be from the os before they consider it 'safe' for a natural birth?

am trying to work out whether to get my hopes up that it'll move, or resign myself to a c-section!

Hi annady. I had a low lying placenta at 23 weeks, rescanned at 34 weeks and still low, then rescanned last week at 36 weeks and it's completely moved away from OS so planning for home birth as we hoped. Not sure of odds, but I think it has to be more than 2cm away from OS or they recommend caesarean. Check out RCOG website - think they have clinical guidelines on this situation. Good luck!

do you know what your measurement was at 34 weeks, i.e. how low / far from the cervix the placenta was at that point, and hence how much it moved in those last two weeks?

will have a look at the rcoh website too - thanks v much again.

sorry annady, they didn't give me an exact measurement at 34 weeks. i spoke to friends who had an elective c-section and it doesn't sound too bad. good luck whatever happens x
