Pregnancy

2nd Preg..is it a given that I'll get horrid belly stretch marks?

I know there are more important things to worry about but....My first DS was born only 13 months ago and now I'm 5 months preg with the next and am watching my belly with concern. No marks as yet but I haven't exactly been keeping off the brownies and cheese sandwiches! Now I'm beginning to regret it.
Did you get belly stretchmarks? Did anyone not? what are your success stories, apart from oil etc which I use on a twice daily basis. How the hell to people ( I know I shouldn't compare) such as Melinda Messenger have three kids and a great non stretch marked belly afterwards? I'll do fat free macrobiotic wheat free everything til the end of the preg if I have to. Have hardly starved the baby of fat so far.
Come on then...your stories!

As HW says they are genetic, did your mum have any stretch marks?

I have had 2DDs and am currently 40 weeks pg with my 3rd, i did get a few stretch marks with DD1 but i havent gain any extra with my next 2 PGs.

Oh! that's good news! Was enormous last time, and ate like a ravenous woman with no discrimination. am being much better this time so plan on being smaller (or hoping let's say)and avoiding any further stretch if you know what I mean. I did get a few light ones on boobs but not too much to worry about but am somehow terrified of the belly ones. Any one else?

x

I didn't get them first or second time around and didn't do any creams or oils or anything. Think it must be genetic as my mum didn't get them either. Doesn't mean I don't have horrid cellulitey saggy fold of tummy though!

twocute... dunno re mum, don't think so. so the theory that as long as I don't get any bigger this time round should hopefully avoid them makes sense? Congrats by the way! thanks...

None here either after 2 pregnancies.

First time round I was using a Boots anti-stretch mark cream twice a day from about 12 weeks, second time I think I put it on about twice throughout the whole 40 weeks!

Ok , this is sounding very good. (Goes off to join the gym to deal with the cellulite sagging arse) Thanks!

When do they start? The stretch marks, I mean.

I got them with DD1, a couple more with DD2, but no more this time! I've used every lotion potion and technique in the book but as the other ladies rightly say, it is genetic! My mum never had them, but me & my sister do . Typical eh!

Granted, they don't look like the most attractive things in the world but mine hardly show up when I'm back to my pre pregnancy (sort of) shape and I learned to be kind of fond of them as they are a sign of what I've made - 2 gorgeous kiddies!

It sounds like you may not get them if you haven't already, but if you do - be proud of em! lol

it is genetic... my mum didn't get them, she has a tanned and elastic skin, I got them terribly with DS and again with this preg. I have very pale, easily marking, easily burning skin, unlike my mum, and also just carried all the baby weight in one massive neat ball out front. I don't think diet has one single thing to do with stretch marks. Oil probably helps but doesn't prevent.. if you didn't have marks with 1st preg, I would have thought you might well escape this time too!

also frankly, better that than permanent fanjo damage or whatever.. but I feel sad sometimes as I had the perfect stomach and now will always have that wrinkly handbag look...

2 kids here. 22 months apart, skinny to start with gained over 3 stone each pregnancy. No stretch marks. My mum and grandmothers didn't have them either.

Both pregnancies I moisturised, exercised and ate well (just quite a lot of it!).

third pregnancy....put on a lot of weight with each (about three stone), big babies and no stretch marks (that i can see) could well be that my backside is covered but none on tummy, breasts, arms or legs...its a genetic thing, mind you i practically wash myself in baby oil in the shower, pregnant or not.

20+ weeks pg with DD3. Didn't get stretch marks with DD1. No stretch marks yet with this one. But do religiously make sure I rub Bio Oil or something similar into bump every morning. Am sure that it helps skin to stretch evenly. Also, running around after DD1 and 2 means that I don't seem to have put as much weight on this time.

I do LOVE a good cheese sarnie though .

2 kids 18 months apart, 3 stones heavier than pre-pregnancy, not a single strech mark. Loads of cellulite though.

I got a few stretch marks whilst giving birth to DC1 grr, didn't get any with DC2 BUT my belly button never recovered, the poor thing is deformed, don't know whats worse TBH.

Sorry but I had none after 1st pg (gained 4st, baby 10lb5oz), but after 2nd (gained 3 1/2st, baby 11lb 10 oz), I was left with a belly you could tie in a scrunchy, even though I quickly lost all the weight.

I found my stomach got rashy if I used anything on it, but wish I'd perservered - although maybe it is just hereditary.

The 3rd was a smaller baby and less drastic weight gain, but the damage was done by then.

32 weeks with DC3, no stretch marks so far...

It is definitely genetic. I don't even moisturise. My friend has more stretch marks than you can shake a stick at.

1 child, awful stretchmarks looks like crepe paper and my belly's like a kangaroo pouch too even though I have lost the weight I gained (4 stone) and am now a slim size 10/12. My baby was a large baby though and I did eat rather a lot, I was huuuuuuge! next time round I'm going to watch what I eat although I'm not expecting to get any new stretchmarks, there isn't a bit of spare skin without!

I didn't use anything on it I think they are all gimmicky and whether you get them at all depends on your size to begin with, the weight you gain, the size of your baby, your age and your skin's elasticity.

I got them with both pregnancies pretty badly. My mum never got a single one, btw! I used various oils and potions. A load of bollocks, I say. If you're gonna get them, you'll get them.

I'm 35 weeks and started getting stretchmarks a couple of months ago. I knew I was going to get them because I've had them in the past when I've put weight on/off. My mum had none, though her skin is different to mine. My skin's quite dry, pale and non-stretchy. I've been putting moisturiser on after showers, but don't think it makes much difference - if you get them, you get them. Luckily they all seem to have appeared at once and haven't got any worse since....hopefully they'll stay that way I'm not too bothered though since I was never much of a bikini-wearer anyway!

(Also, I've only put on a stone so far in this pregnancy and carry all the weight in my bump - don't know if this has anything to do with it?)
