What colour should your urine be?

Odd question but I have just collected a sample to take to my GP tonight and is is very dark orange. I compared the colour to my undiluted bottle of orange squash and my wee is much darker?

It does sound quite dark - what have you had to drink this morning? What happens if you drink lots of water? If you're worried ask your Dr this evening - it'll probably be a 2sec answer that everything's fine .

Well I am hoping the doctor is going to test for pre-eclampsia and I know dark urine is a sign, but I use bleach block things in my loo so can't see the colour usually and I haven't had my urine tested since 13 weeks - now 30 weeks.

And I don't know what it is "meant" to be like.

Also, does anybody know if dark urine can be a sign of gestational diabeties? Sorry if I have spelt that wrong. That is another thing I have had many signs of, but haven't had the guts to ask to be tested as I am VERY needle phobic

Mention it to your doctor - but don't worry. Mine has been darker than usual the whole way through, no idea why, but there's nothing wrong with me.

If anything I think it is probably that I am not drinking enough water (as really should be drinking more than usual when PG)

It should be straw coloured. It may be darker because of dehydration? Are you drinking enough? I was told to aim for three litres a day in pregnancy. Your urine will be dipped for things like protein and sugars which are associated with PE and GD respectively so if there is anything it will show up. Tell him about your other GD symptoms though as if you do have it, your baby might be bigger than average leading to a more difficult birth and may need some special care once it's born.

I drink a fair bit, although usually squash as I can't stand water on its own.

Mine is also quite dark most of the time. i thought it was a sign of dehydration as I know I dont drink enough, I have got acid reflux and drinking fluids makes it worse. I have mentioned the colour of my urine when i have taken samples to the midwife and she has never seemed concerned about it.
