I went to the loo a while ago and had a wet patch in my pants... (am 37 + 2 weeks). - it wasn't much, about the same amount as when you sneeze and have an 'accident' (something that I have unfortunately become acquainted with since I got pregnant ). However that hasn't happened today.

I've put a pantyliner in but I feel kind of ..'squelchy' when I move, like I hadn't bothered to wipe (I did by the way!)

Does this sound like a bit of a leak...? It seems too thin to be discharge.

Sorry, just realised what a gross post this is!!

Equally gross but smell it! I think amniotic fluid smells a bit sweet/straw like - you'd certainly know it wasn't wee or discharge I seem to remember. Otherwise give your midwife a call, they can test your panty liner and tell you for sure either way!

Please get this checked out. DS was born at 38 weeks due to low amniotic fluid. I also had a 'leak' earlier and when I called the delivery suite, they didn't seem too bothered.

But my consultant said that the leak may have been the reason why I lost fluid.

At least call your midwife, or the delivery suite please

amniotic fluid smells different to wee and is a different colour, can have a pinkish tinge. also, you cannot control the flow, like you can with wee

it might be your bladder, esp if you have been having some ahem, bladder weakeness, but you should be checked out

My sense of smell is so rubbish - I've just had a whiff and not sure - will do another pee shortly and compare with the loo roll.

I promise to call the delivery suite if it smells different.

Pregnancy is so dignified isn't it!

Lulumama,

I've only had a couple of 'pee-related incidents' but both times they've been when I've sneezed and not had time to clench! I'm sure I'd have felt it if it happened again.

Ah, but you get your dignity back when you get discharged!

tbh, I couldn't tell the difference as I just leaked from most orifices during pregnancy . Think my ears even leaked!

later in pregnancy you can just leak urine but could equally be a hindwater leak

Have just compared and they do smell a bit different. It doesn't smell sweet but doesn't have the same sharp smell of tinkle.

Husband is home in 20 mins, will call delivery suite then I think.

Update:

I called the labour ward on Friday eve, they told me to call back if there was anymore in the morning - which there wasn't. Have noticed more wetness today so called them back and they said it doesn't sound like my waters at all, BUT it could be a show......

Has anyone else had a show like this? Basically occasional dribbling of clear fluid (not pee!) over a couple of days.

Don't be embarrassed to go and see your midwife, better to be embarrassed than taking a chance and then at least you will know instead of worrying

I had a strange leak with dc2 and it was clear and thin but slimy (for want of a better word) when I went to hosp they said it wasn't my waters but I know it wasn't pee!
ds was born following day but I was overdue

I wouldn't take any chances if I were you. I thought that my waters went a week before I finally went into labour but I wasn't confident enough to make a fuss about it. When they went to break my waters during labour there was nothing left. DD, although fine now, had a few complications at birth because of it. It really doesn't always happen like the books describe it. Mine was like an ongoing show, that leaked every time i went to the toilet.

I agree with PlumBumMum about it being slimy though!!
