Talk to me about cravings!

When did you all notice you had cravings? And how did you tell them apart from being a craving and not just fancying a big slab of apple pie?

Also when did it start? Or did they never start?

I'm almost 17 weeks now, and people keep asking if I've had any cravings and I just say "No.. should I? I wouldn't say no to some cookie dough ice cream but then I never would!"

I don't think people get cravings so much nowadays but it is a good excuse for that big slab of apple pie or chocolate cake.

In the past when people may not have had such varied diets, cravings apparently ensured that they ate the foods that were needed to get whatever nutrients they were lacking.

29 weeks and still no cravings for me! I wish people would stop asking me.
Infact I tried to eat my cookie dough ice-cream the other night and could barely eat it.
Having to almost force myself to eat at all, just not interested, I was looking forward to eating everything I normally wouldn't but it's not quite working out that way!

I started having a huuuuuuge appetite at 12 weeks or so. Up til then I was very nauseous & so actually lost weight. So I suppose my increased appetite was due to that? During the whole 2nd trimester I had cravings of some sort.

I had huge cravings when preggie with DD - It was different to just wanting things if I couldn't have what I wanted I got very very upset and would cry Whenever I needed any I couldn't focus on anything else until I got it. My craving was for tinned peas, anchovies and tinned pineapple all mixed together in a bowl with a little red oinion marmalade on the side! It was heaven and it was the only thing that satisfied me. Dh had to find all the 24 hour Spar shops as I would only eat Spar tinned peas

with DS i craved dettol I wanted(seriously) toput it on a yellow cleaning sponge and eat it. The smell was so delicious I had to make a conscienious effort not to drink it from the bottle. So i settled on putting a wee capful in my bath and sat in it for ages.

Pregnant now with DD and before we even knew I was pregnant I "needed" spicey food, its still my favourite thing, having never been to fond of too much spice, I now can;t get enough. Pickles not so much but the vinager in the pickle jar??? I drink it wow...but saying that at least I don't want to drink disinfectant this time

I had a lot of food aversions to start with - which made it look like I had cravings (which I didn't it's all that I could eat!)

I did have quite a long phase of eating a lot of red meat, however and I don't normally eat it very often. I think it was to do with the iron. DH thought it was great - regular steak etc.
