18 weeks pregnant confirmed UTI crampes and "tightenings" not sure how concerned to be!?

Woke up today feeling shitty tried work but was nauseous crampy slowly dawned on me that I probably had UTI, Saw doc this pm got amoxycillin. Anyway all afternoon I have had cramps and lots of tightenings. Doc wasn't concerned but I am! Its my second pregnancy and I was very brakton hicsy with the first so probably nothing to worry about yes?? Come and reassure me ...............

I would call the MW or the hospital tbh, as UTI's can trigger contractions. At the very least try to see your community MW tomorrow to get checked over.

I'd also be putting my feet up and taking it very easy for the next few days and trying to flush things through with lots of cranberry juice.

you should call the hospital - UTIs can trigger premature labour (they did with my first baby)

Thats what i'm worried about but dd is asleep (shes 2) and dp is in bloody munich for bloody work. Unless gets worse will have to pray its nothing. Will def ring community midwife in the am. I actually saw one of them at the surgery earlier while waiting for doc and considered doorstepping her in the hallway.

Had pre eclampsia last time round and have a bit of a fear of going near hopsital as everytime I did last time I got admitted for days on end. irrational I know

have cranberry juice have been in bed all day except for collecting DD and getting her sorted and docs

phone and ask the labour ward what they think - if they say you have to go in, could you just wrap dd up and take her in a buggy?

or have you a friend you could ring if you need to go in, to come and babysit?

with my 2nd pregnancy, I had a suspected UTI and cramps at 24 weeks and they admitted me for monitoring and antibitoics

from personal experience, I would ring the labour ward/delivery suite for advice

they will be able to tell you if you should come in

dinny if it comes to that I can probably ring a friend who will come sit with her. I'm juts trying to gauge risk in my head of leaving it until am

yes, they did and ds was born at 40 weeks, all fine

the obs impressed in me the importance of acting fast with UTIs as they are such a trigger of premature labour

don't mean to scare you, just giving my experience

why not phone and see what they say?

oh don't worry about scaring me I do a good job of that all on my own No seriously i appreciate you sharing your experience. I'm going to give it an hour and see how I feel cramps have died off just tight now. Lots of movement which is reassuring

I have had a UTI since July that no one has been able to successfully treat. I am now 37 weeks but they have found that I am positive for Group B Strep and have found that this may be the reason for UTI.
I spoke to the DAU quite early on as am aware that UTI's can cause premature labour (I wasn't aware of this at the time) but was told there would be no risk to my baby, but now have GBS.
Don't mean to scare you but I think you should give someone a call and make sure you are regularly checked for the possible return of infection.

18 just so definitely don't want anything approaching pre term labour still a long long way to go

littleboyblue its horrible that they haven't been able to resolve it. have you had symptoms? i really wouldn't fancy feeling like this long term............ Isn't it good to know in advance though about the GBS? I thought the real problems started when it was undiagnosed and untreated for the baby anyway

dinny me too, just finishing course 5 (or is it 6?) and they are saying they also want to keep me on a daily low dose for rest of pregnancy and then when I think labour is starting I am to get to the hospital asap to be put on an IV drip to receive anti-biotics until ds is born. There are warning stickers all over my maternity notes, but they say it's going to be ok because they know.
I don't know if UTI caused this or this caused UTI or what but I would urge the OP to keep a very close eye on it and make sure they treat it properly as the past few weeks have been awful for me.

oh yes, it is good to know if you have it - think what LBB is saying is to make sure you are checked for it (?)

I had IV antibios in labour because of it

I also had (sorry, TMI) constant thrush with ds
this time I have been UTI and thrush free....touch wood

well whatever I do tonight i'm ringing the community midwife tomorrow. I know them quite well after they got to visit my flat daily for the last few weeks of last pg to take my blood pressure

Yes mspot As they know they can treat me through labour and if needed ds after delivery, but am still very scared as to what could possibly happen.
I have had symptoms constantly throughout this pregnancy, it has not been pleasant. I haven't had any cramps or anything that made me think I'd go into labour early but have been having the burning when peeing and been unable to completely empty my bladder.
I hope they resolve this for you, but if cramps are still there I would def call and don't let them fob you off too easy. Your body, you'll know if something osn't quite right

you know you don't HAVE to go in if you phone the delivery suite....

LBB, I had antibios in labour too - didn't get them in time but ds was just fine

not long and you'll be feeling a lot better!

Sorry if I'm rambling and nort being very clear, we only found out last week so still reading up and trying to relax a bit about it. I was just trying to make you aware of possibilities from UTI's and what I was told the reason for me getting one was. And if you have the UTI for an extended period I would say get a test done for GBS just to be on safe side

lbb I know what you mean, I have the same feelings about pre e recurring. We just have to arm ourselves with all the info possible and then ultimately trust the staff to do their jobs right.
